I am the staff member of the Alexandria RPG Library you spoke with when you found the Vaesen book. Definitely the most surreal moment of the show for me! We're proud and honored to have your custom covered book as part of our collection, it will remain available for con attendees to admire and use in their Vaesen games run at our area. Thank you for showcasing what we do!
A really crazy moment indeed. It was great meeting you and learning about the library!
Great to finally meet you in person, Dave!
Yeah, really cool to meet you! 🫶🏼
Great to meet you, Dave! That dinner was really fun.
Indeed, Ben. It was surreal to finally meet in person.
Was so awesome to see you in person, DT! :D
Yeah it was really great. The magic of IRL!
So stoked to see you got footage of the Glass Cannon booth. My favorite Actual Play troupe!
Wow, this was, in my opinion, one of the best walkthroughs of Gen Con this year. You showed a bit of everything and it reminded me of my visit four years ago. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
What a great story about that copy of Vaesen! Glad you had a good time and got to meet loads of awesome people. You and Ben are my number one sources of indie RPG content!
Man, I went once in 2019 and loved it. Was on the fence this year, but I will definitely make it to 2024!
I havent been in about 5 years but man this was great. Finding your book and having the exact shoes as Ben made me laugh out loud. Great video!
Thanks!
Hey Dave - I ran into the Alexandria Library at Dragonflight in Seattle and saw your Vaesen book. Very cool to see it in the wild.
I'll keep my eyes open for you next year, I've missed adepticon and gencon for like 3 years of trying to plan for it. I'm gonna prioritize it in 2024
Thank you for the nice video it really gave an overall sense of what it was like. LOL, for me this would be four days of analysis paralysis about what I should be doing and FOMO. 😅
No idea why TH-cam recommended this to me today but I am glad to have seen it, AND I dd love that Vaesen story! Two days is not enough time but it does beat one day ;)
There was an estimated 80,000 people at the convention this year. I was there Friday Goodman told me they were sold out of shirts.
It's too big now. I felt it was crowded the last time I went (2013) and it's almost double that number now. Still, it's great to see the entire downtown shift into geek mode for 4 days.
I swear I saw a lot of youtube faces I recognized. Was my second GenCon and it's still an overwhelming but fun experience.
thank you for the video, I will definitely be there 2024 for the big D&D 50, hope to run into you
This was my first Gencon. Was there all-day Saturday and Sunday and felt like I barely scratched the surface!
I know that feeling.
Really fun video, thanks for sharing Dave!
Finding that Vaesen cover that you made part of a traveling collection is amazing.
And Gencon is where you find your tribe.
Indeed. An annual meeting of a tribe. I like that.
Glad you had a good time, Dave! I was there only once (hard to do as a European), but I was overwhelmed. Was a good time, and you just rekindled some fond memories. =)
Glad to hear it. Yeah, it was waay too much to take in. Pretty incredible.
I really enjoyed this, Dave - thanks for sharing for those of use who couldn't be there. Looks like so much fun!
Thanks Man!
Awesome!
I’m definitely going next year I always change my mind because I have a thing about crowds but this would at least be one of the best crowds you could be in.Awesome footage
Thanks! Yeah, crowds are definitely a feature at GenCon. But everyone is super friendly and polite.
Planning on visiting next year. Your advice about dedicating time to different activities is appreciated.
I’m glad it was of some help!
Great walkthrough! As for next year, Id recommend a full four day pass sgd lots of planning! It'll be D&D's 50th, so every record broken thus year will definitely be broken again. Ahd., of course, the dealer hall deserves some attention; that is its own madness, but I usually work the Free League booth, so come by if you're there next year!
I went for the first time on Saturday, I’ve never been to any con before. But I can see why it lasts 4 days, it could take days to check out just the things that interest you.
You're gonna love DCC rpg!
gencon was a whole lot of fun, Wish i couldve ran into you, but theres always next year.
That book was forged in mount Doom!
Thank you for visiting the library! Hope to see you at future events, and walk you through some of the crazy games we have. So glad you stopped by and solved that mystery cover. Our Chief Librarian wishes he was there to meet you. Please reach out he would love to chat.
Fun times! I can't help but notice a lot of video footage focusing on the miniatures aspect of the con. Is there some interest there? Have you heard of Adepticon? That's still my favorite convention to go to and it's almost entirely dedicated to miniatures tabletop gaming. It's a real spectacle! (Plus it's *free* if you just want to look around, shop, play demos.)
I think my eye was drawn to the incredible models. But my channel doesn’t focus on them at all. Thanks for the recommendation though!
I enjoy Ben's channel also. I was at the DCC booth looking thru the indie stuff when I heard him talking with one guys from goodman games. I was in my head like I know that voice only too look up to make the connection since in the past it was rare for him to show his face it was quite funny. If you know any good social events Id be interested. Im only going with one friend this year. Do you about some of the DCC after hours stuff?

Got a kick out of @theDMLair photo bombing too!
New Balance? Ben said osr doesnt USE balance!!! 😮
I was really struck by how you said you wanted your second day to focus on playing games you wanted to try. I stopped going to Gen Con about 10 years ago because I had great difficulty doing exactly that. There were lots of games I wanted to try, limited slots available for them and tens of thousands of people who competed for those slots, so I rarely got them. The con was cool, but I found the gaming experience frustrating. Do you have a clever plan for getting to try games? Because I would love to start going to gencon again...
That’s a good point. I’ve been thinking about it and I think I’d reach out to creators/publishers directly about getting playtime. The hope is that since I have a channel that promotes RPGs, they’d give me some special consideration. Failing that, I’d organize games myself and play them in a private suite.
Would you've bought it back if it was for sale? And done what?
Give it away again?
Just wondering.
I am a member of several groups that do Secret Santa style gift giveaways, and I have found gifts for sale that I made, several times.
for me, it is always kind of heart breaking when it happens.
Ouch. That must suck to see. I would have bought it back and then probably given it to someone I know as a special gift, since it has a crazy story attached to it.
I mean, I prefer new balance myself because I have wide feet.
what is bipoc room?
Lounge where biracial and people of color can hang out. Anyone welcome, actually.
WotC has a food truck?!?
It was weird.
*three shoe stories
The frantic camera work made me a bit dizzy, so I sadly could not watch much of the showfloor footage. But I appreciated the inclusion of the catalog at the end. The three "crazy" things happening though, it seemed you were grasping for stuff to slap a catchy title on this one. Love your usual reviews, which are some of the best in depth, presentation and tone.
Thanks for your comment.
