      @@massawman lucky man, I’d give anything to have that ole smoky homelite back just because it was my grandpas. Loved that ole top handle, it kicked back on me one day tho when I was younger. my arm has three scars that look like tooth marks. Some how it slowed down enough before it hit my arm thank the lord.

    Wanting to make stuff preform better has always been a motivator. Telling me I couldn’t do something was an incentive. Have I scattered a few...sure...did I have success on some, certainly did, I have to try if the logic is there. Good to see a young fellow with the attitude of try your own ideas. In the 60’s go fast parts weren’t available as they are today.

    I think Leon's chainsaw repair he has a web site with parts and there are allot of them. I think it might be only homllite's that could be the forum. Nice ink work!!! You are doing a great job. I will be referring back to some of your video's to do this saw. I hate to take apart a perfectly good running saw but I have to try. I have a Honda CR480 that would never start cold. Well it was always hard to start. I also have a 200t that just won't idle there is some going on in the carb. of the fuel filter is letting some micro particle in that won't let it idle it acts like it running out of fuel. That saw is hard to work on. everything is tiny. Thanks for the video's they will come in handy!!!!

    • @Smittyschainsaws
      @Smittyschainsaws 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are describing an air leak more than carb issues. Check your crankshaft seals. Look at some videos on the subject.

    I'm a 4-stroke motorcycle guy most and for most 1980's Honda V4's and just recently got into the powersaws. Despite just being a syringe (yes I'm quoting you 😁) there is a lot for me to learn and that's why I love your video's really great, keep it up. I was thinking about that bridge you took out. If that thing is really going to catch a ring. Why not leave the bridge and adapt it to your advantage? Liking shaping and slimming at the same time? I do that to most of my 4 strokes and offcourse leaving them rough.

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    An engine is an engine. Motorcycle, chainsaw, "same thing only different". The principles don't change. "Am I building for low end torque or higher revs and HP?" Once you figure that out, you have the beginning (basic numbers), School of hard knocks, as long as you learn the lesson, you wind up with evidence. Good stuff, great attitude, nice tux :)

    I live in Western Mass. let me know what you are looking for. I have 4 top handle Poulans. I have an old Husky 55 rancher that needs help and a Husky 41 both of those saws have sentimental links to me but I think they both need a work over I also have a Stihl 041 with no AV I think that will run with little effort. I would be willing to do some horse trading let me know what you are looking for. And a bunch of Homelites I like the XL12 I think I will try to port that. I cuts good know but ported it should cut great. And a 925 I don't like and some EZ's I have to many saws not enough time.

    For the crank seals 12282-A is the flywheel side and 58308-B is the clutch side according to the xl76 ipl from Leon's website they are all over ebay and you can sometimes find them as a set www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/uploads/3/9/7/9/39792537/homelite-terry_xl-76_chainsaw_ipl.pdf

    I am working on a craftsman roper 60cc, essentially an engine copy of what you are working on. The slightly longer stroke won’t allow me to remove the base gasket or it Freeports. Funny how your stock timing number for exhaust matches mine. Cannot thank you enough for throwing out some numbers. Plan on doing the same mods, exhaust to 101-102, currently 106.
    I was thinking of notching the piston skirts by the transfers, but concerned about stability of the piston. Any thoughts? Would be great to get your input. Thanks again, ironhorse sent me.
