    My mom bought one in 1982 for $60. We where sitting around today talking and she pulled it out to show me. She never shoot it and all these years I never new she cared it everywhere.

    Thanks for the info. I grew up shooting dads mod 36 and 60 ... I never knew they made a snubby in .22.

    Thank you Steve and Brownells; one of my, favorite “ever” revolvers is an old (hammer mounted firing pin) Smith, 2.5 inch barrel, L Frame 686. These just seem to be the ideal length and the feel great in my hands. But you’re right, an extras 1.5 or 2 inches makes precision accuracy so much easier to attain.

    It would be nice another video about this revolver with more close ups to it. It is a very interesting piece.

    I used a Brownell’s 22 liner inside an eBay model 19 357 2-1/2” barrel. Swapped out the 6” barrel for this snub nose to match my 2-1/2” model 19. Pretty intense project but very doable and inexpensive if you take your time shortening the ejector rod and setting the cylinder gap (.0015”, one and one half thousandths). Did a reblue to match it all up with Brownell’s help too. Fits in my Bianchi 5BHL holster like the big boy. I’m living in the 70’s again at the range and always fun to shoot!

    How does the firing pin contact the rim of the 22LR?

    I really like the I frame kit gun 6 shot 22 in 4 in barrel they stopped making them about 1960 because of the model 17 22 target range pistol the kit gun is sweet n petite

    I just inherited a S&W sub nose .22lr the other day. Trying to figure out what model it is and when it was manufactured has been a pain

    Bought a Dan Wesson, .22 with a 2” barrel and bought an identical.DW 357 with a 2” barrel.
    Along with multiple sizes of barrels, for both guns, whenever wanting a different gun.🎉

    Smith & Wesson Bodyguard - the original version from the 50s, I think.

  • @AlbertoJorgeSoares
    @AlbertoJorgeSoares 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It seems to be a 2'' barrel.
    The K frame S&W which has a 2.5'' barrel, and that kind of front sight, is only the model 19.

    I wonder if a revolver could be chambered in 5.56 (small-ish feat), but instead of using moon clips, the ejector pushes off on the case mouth. The ejector travel could be quite short but still achieve extraction and ejection.

    • @Jrhoney
      @Jrhoney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the pressures involved, you'd have a hard time ejecting those bottlenecked casings by hand.

    • @adrianfirewalker4183
      @adrianfirewalker4183 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) Anything can be done with enough time and money
      2) S&W made a Revolver that used standard 9mm ammo, no "moon clips" required
      3) Even the late, great Elmer Keith (RIP) stated that bottlenecked cartridges do not work well in revolvers; however, one of my friends has a BFR .22 Hornet that he loves, but admits having to clean the cylinder quite frequently

    I would like to see a video on S&W's 586 Brazilian contract guns chambered in .38 Special. There is also a cult following for the 2 1/2 inch S&W 586 as less than 500 were produced over two runs in the early 90s. Many Thanks!

    How about a Steven's favorite, savage model 1895/1899 was ahead of its time . And who doesn't love a k-frame please keep up the great video's.

    Interesting. Putting the front and rear sights close enough to be very nearly in the same focal plane might
    prove to be a boon to presbyopic classic senior shooters.

    Well sir I had the opportunity to buy a snub model 17 a few years back at a Charlotte, NC gun show. The finish on it was PRETTY BAD that is why I was not too quick to buy even though I LOVE my 22lr rifles and pistols. The dealer wanted $425, was that a GOOD PRICE? He said I could send it to S&W to be reblued. What would that cost? Did I make a MISTAKE not getting it?🤔😁😎

    I saw one at a gun show in Flint Michigan in about 1980. I had a disagreement with the guy selling it that S&W never produced a model 17 2 inch 22 cal revolver. I said S&W never made one and he said they did and his gun was proof. I pointed out the barrel and told him S&W would produce a barrel not line one. I was going on my knowledge of S&W and wasn't totally sure I was correct and we had no internet back then or cell phones to instantly look it up. Your video answered the question as I did look in my S&W books once I got home the next day and didn't see a K-17 2 inch.

    Nice man! I don't care for 22's at all, not even when I was a kid but there have been a couple Colt and Smith 22 revolvers that I really like. The snub nose square but 34's are awesome and the stainless versions if they had a snub version in stainless. This is very unique. The Model 15 snub is one of my favorite guns ever made so to see one in a 22 is REALLY cool! Nice gun.

    Seems a terrible waste of a .38 model 15 snub, when you consider the low recoil of a target wadcutter. Still doesn’t detract from its looks though.

    Nowaday, you can't find a gunsmith compitent enough to do this. Let alone, one who wouldn't babel off their opinion, on how, blah blah blah, this is. A gunsmith, used ta be able ta do custom work, and wouldn't bat an eye. Now, they can't listen worth a spit, an won't do any custom work.

    Way cool . Been looking at a Taurus 942 . 8 shot 22 WMR in SS / 2 in. Hardly cheap training ammo though . Could just go with it in LR I suppose . Wouldn't it make more sense to just saw the barrel back on a 17 ?. The cost of a S&W model 17 + a model 15 barrel + relined for 22 + labor , all sounds rather expensive . Then again it's a "one " of a kind .
