If you enjoyed this one, I’m pretty sure you would enjoy my video on the history of digital watch tech development from its origins, through to today -> th-cam.com/video/oiUIYDQOH8A/w-d-xo.html
It is unbelieve how many watches were launched and how diverse they were during the 80s. Some of them are like no others, no compromises, just betting to be really different instead of playing a safe move. I remember that the Caso Digipaper was the coolest thing you can wear as a teen back then, and I don't have it.
@Illuminating Watches by the time I was wearing them, they had already switched to resin. Maybe Timex will reissue a steel version like they have done with the T80.
Man, I'd kill to have some of these watches. Also, i love your content, i didn't think I'd find a good digital watch enthusiast channel, but here we are.
Me too!! Really glad to hear I’m helping scratch that digital watch content itch. vintage digital watches channel is great and much more knowledgable than me - just wish he’d post more!
i have seen some of these Citizens for sale! Didnt know they had such a huge influence on digitals... Now they are even cooler! Thanks for sharing Gordon!
This is quickly becoming my favourite channel... And my mechanical watches are starting to gather some dust 😊. I just wish your videos were longer! Maybe I'll just play them at half speed...
What a fantastic summarization of the good old 80's. 👍 The Video is going back about half a century but by watching it feels like walking right into the future. It's stunning what technology was developed decades ago, you would never presume - great work 👍👍👍
I was a kid in the 80's there are so many watches in this video I remember. I had a Timex Ironman and a Timex analog/digital but I don't remember the model. I always wanted the Casio with the thermometer but never got one. Great video.
@Illuminating Watches dude I share your vids with anyone who wants an Apple iwatch. I'm like, don't do that, look at all the history and wonderful options that we have.
As a child of the 70s and 80s i remember my love of watches starting with the emergance of more affordable digital watches becoming available and kids at school having them ( i remember a brand called Beltime being popular). But because they were still more expensive i had Sekonda mechanical wind up watches. I actually remember purposely overwinding a sekonda in thr hope my parents would get me a digital watch
Thank you for another amazing video. You are truly one of my favorite channels and I always get excited when I see a new video from you. Thank you for all your hard work with doing the research and producing the videos. I appreciate it so much, your videos bring me joy to say the least. Thanks again!
Awesome video! It's also worth mentioning that the seiko G757 was also used in the game Metal Gear Solid V the phantom Pain, and with the popularity of the watch after the release, it saw a re-release under the brand name "Wired" (a seiko subsidiary). Thank you for the great video & researches, wonderful and tasteful content as usual.
Hi, big fan of your videos. I saw you have got an autodromo group c. Can you make a video ? Nobody talks about it, i think this is a very nice watch. Cheers, Al
Thankyou so much! I very briefly cover it in my driving digitals video. It’s unlikely I’ll do a review style video as I don’t tend to do those (I hate to think people would buy something based upon me liking it as my opinions are very biased to my own tastes). I love the watch as I’m a mad digital watch lover , but objectively it’s definitely not worth the price tag !
Thanks for informing me that what I have been looking for is called a "pseudo-analog" watch, because of this managed to find a Citizen 9600 which I'm very happy with :) Edit: there is something funny about using a digital display to mimic older technology... this is called a skeuomorph. Hereby I propose to call them skeuomorphic watches from now one, that's all for me thanks
The golden age of digital watchmaking... wish several of these were in production today. By the way, Casio will release this year the LF-20W as a successor to the old Twin Graph.
Yes I saw that. Very cool! I wish they did it with the graphics on the strap though like the originals though. Love that they are doing some cool re-issues anyway
I never wore digital watches growing up in the 80s. I guess it was just too popular and ubiquitous during that time and I really snobbed hard against it. I much preferred the look of analog displays back then. But it was digital watches that resparked my love for watches a few years back... I guess I got swept up with everyone else in the nostalgia for the 80s! 😅 And nothing symbolises the 80s more than digital watches!
I was an 84 birthday so digital watches were a big part of my childhood - especially my Timex Ironman Triathlon. If only we’d kept hold of some of them in good condition - we’d be rich!!
@@DADDY_DIGI_HOBBIES all ok! Still plenty of videos I’d like to do - simply a matter of having to prioritise some other things (got obsessively into running after realising how unfit I was)
@@IlluminatingWatches I got into cycling recently! Good excuse to wear vintage sports watches 😅. My watch obsession is pretty recent. I randomly found a citizen independent ana digi temp with the white face 50$... But it was broken so I took it to the shop and they said they cant find the movement.... So I did it myself! Found your Chanel and now iv'e got like 20 restorations done! I started an insta about my restoration... Great chanel!
Why do these watches have so much more color and character compared to modern offerings? Casios LF20 reissue felt like them trying to put out a watch with the least effort possible.

I have a Timex m-433 LCA 1982,cool watch.
42 years old and still ticking!
You did a lot of research man
Thankyou! This is the result of research I’ve done on multiple other videos about the 80s
Nice one. A good trip down memory lane for me.
I hope you never run out of content, as your videos are GOLD !!
Don’t worry - more ideas for videos than I could do in a lifetime

Cosmophase 7.10....😂 Fantastic vid, loved the tanks and those Rotocalls, they came up before didn't they?
Ha ha especially for you that one
The Casio Amw-320 "Arnie" was briefly shown in this video, featuring the module 358. That module was everywhere for almost 30 years.
Looks like Sylvester Stallone wore it too! Hadn’t known that!
@@IlluminatingWatches Being worn by both of the rival macho men of the 80s is quite an achievement.
I love seeing the Timex Atlantis get some love, it's weird that it's so forgotten given it's still around...
Will always get love from me! I would love one of the solid metal ones from back in the day
@Illuminating Watches by the time I was wearing them, they had already switched to resin. Maybe Timex will reissue a steel version like they have done with the T80.
Big fan of the world map by Seiko... Nice video, the 80 watches are or ugly or iconic. Thanks gor the video
Thankyou! I’m a lover of the ugly and the beautiful - all play a part in the story of the technology! Always a pleasure!

Worth it alone for the “ Live Without a Net “ footage;)

How to annoy a whole class in the 1980's. Alarms.

Lovvvve the Timex Ironman triathlon. That was my first watch . I was an 84 baby so watches I had were more 90s
Most entertaining. Your videos are always interesting. The subject matter is pretty unique in the world of You Tube.
Thankyou! It’s sort of evolved over time to end up like this! Times ticking do some histories too, so is probably the closest thing
How you don't have at least 100k subs is beyond me, amazing video as always!

OMG what a blast from the past forgotten how many watches I've owned. I've had about 15 of the watches you've featured in this video! 🙂👍

I think casio need to do a lot of reissue of his old watch because they were realy inovador and creative at the begining

Indeed this is a problem with collecting vintage digitals. You are reliant on donor modules and knowing people who are good at fixing things.
You definitely missed out in the ski section with seiko. Because alba made the Blue Impulse Y785-4000 Easily one of the coolest ski watches!
