- This B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) hyper coaster opened in March, 1999, making it the first of it's kind. The coaster is all about airtime, in other words - floating out of your seat for as long as possible. Did you know that although the coaster is 170 feet (52m) tall, it has a 210 foot (64m) drop thanks to the surrounding terrain?
This Busch Gardens park is located in Williamsburg, Virginia.

210 ft. subterranean drop, lots of airtime, 4,882 feet of track, creating 2 minutes and 15 seconds of ride time, 73 mph, the first B&M hyper had been well built and constructed :)

This was B&M's first hyper and it still holds up so well. Great pacing, loads of airtime...it is one of the most *exciting* things I've ridden

JLEET I like Lochness too. Alpengeist is probably my least favorite because it gives me a headache every time I ride it, lol. Have you ridden Tempesto yet?

this lift hill sounds intimidating
Yeah. It's like they forgot to fill the boxes with some noise cancelling material (standard in all B&M). Weird.
It's actually a very quiet lift when compared to the other B&Ms in the park. It can barely be heard off the ride. Alpengeist and especially Griffon can almost be heard throughout the park on some days.
Coaster Warriors It think that Griffon's travels through the park better, but you are definitely right about Alpengeist being the loudest on the ride. None of them can touch Loch Ness Monster's lift sound, though. It's pretty quiet now that they slowed the first lift, but I love the sound. The only one that came close to touching it was Drachen Fire before the lift was silenced for Kingsmill.

This is the scariest ride I have ever been on. The force was so intense. I couldn't even say anything besides "holy shit" 😂

yeah tbh this is nothing compared to mach (tower) that things scares the hell out of you, but for me it’s honestly fun.
I feel bad for you if that's what you think. There are a lot more rides out there...
Intimidator 305 is WAY more intense though

On my first time to Busch Gardens, I actually thought Apollo was part of the Tempesto track next door so I didn't expect those initial 3 drops and caught me so off guard. Very smooth ride and ended up being the best coaster experience at the park.

Terrific ride and the airtime when it appears you are sailing out over the river is fabulous.
Looks like a great hyper, its location definitely adds! I would love to head down to BGW and ride it one day.

let me just say that this trying is TERRIFYING the first go around. especially the first drop. with the smaller seat restraints you have to force yourself into the seat so you don’t go forward during it. but after that it’s pretty chill. favorite ride by far.
The fact that this was the very first hypercoaster B&M ever made and is now 24 years old and still runs as smooth as it does is remarkable.
Doesn't ride as well when it gets cold out i've noticed. Still my favorite ride ever.

KD could seriously use a hyper like thishaving ridden it today for the first time it was one SWEET ride that delivers on the speed and airtime,which is something that intimidator can't do thanks in part to it's restraint system.
That looks like so much fun! If I ever get the chance to visit, I'll probably ride it for half the day.

This ride looks awesome!
The back of this ride is the way to go. The airtime really whips you up out of your seat, and the clamshell restraints give plenty of room for you to fly up while staying secure. Just push your hips out a little when they check ;)

Most people know the intimidator 305, this ride reminds me of it. It’s taller then the griffon, and more scary when you think about it. I’ve been on every single roller coaster at Busch gardens and the drop on this one is the worst but the most fun. Griffon comes at a close 2nd with its short 90 degree drop.
This was one of the first roller coasters at Busch Gardens I went to... I regret it.

Supa Llama I'm super l8 but you're more likely to die in a car crash than on a roller coaster. Putting your hands up is something to do on these kinds of rides cause of airtime. So no, no death, theyre just having fun.

I remember the last drop the most since you have that tiny drop before it with a little airtime just for Apollo to dive into that ravine and your stomach reaches your mouth.
This was my first rollercoaster. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. XD

This ride is really fun
I rode this ride 3 times back to back and got stuck on the mid brake section during the second for about 45 minutes. It was so cool but also really scary. When we started moving again I didn't think we'd have enough speed to make it to the end

Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America opened up two months after this one.
I broke this ride once! like all the power turned off and the generator stalled! my seat didn't pop open at the end of the ride when everyone else's did! lol 💯

What you don't see is all the leg room under the seats. You practically FLY on this ride.
