  • Julia Boutros is a Lebanese singer who has strongly advocated for the Palestinian cause throughout her career. Her confrontational song, ‘Wein el Malayeen,’ first released in the 1980s translates as ‘Where are the millions?’ It is directed at the Arab nations and asks them why they remain silent.
This clip was recorded at the Jerash Festival in Jordan and can be found on the ‪@AlAlKhatib‬ TH-cam channel.
Although Julia Boutros originates from a Christian family, this song references verses from the Quran, specifically Sura Al-Fil, which is a chapter called ‘The Elephant’. The verses narrate the story of the Abyssinian army of Abrahah attacking Mekkah to destroy the Ka’bah. The Abyssinians used war elephants to charge at the Ka’bah, but according to the Quran, flocks of birds carrying stones of baked clay threw them down, defeating the invaders.
