      While I agree, do we know if the gun he used is his father's? Just asking. Or did he get a gun from somewhere else? I don't think that has been established. But yes, if they knew he had mental issues, guns should be removed. And the police did interview him and his father from another threat on social media a year ago. Didn't arrest him because they couldn't prove it or just didn't extend the investigation? A lot of questions. I think if the guns were locked up then the parents cannot be held responsible- legally. another case in Georgia where the parent was arrested for her gun not being locked up and charged with a murder for her child's access.

I imagine he'll have some lawsuits against him also but those cases move slower than the criminal ones. It will also be interesting how a jury in Georgia looks at this. I imagine a lot of people in Georgia would be in his shoes if they won the school shooter for a child lottery. They'd also likely at least have been scared for themselves giving this kid access to guns given the history.

    Retired teacher here. The problem with troubled children in schools is and has always been that PARENTS REFUSE HELP when you bring out the subject to the table; no one wants to admit their child has psychological problems. Parents need to understand that teachers and staff have experience in those subjects because of the intense hours we put in trainings and our educational background. We make recommendations to counseling as soon as we can catch it because we truly care. But you are always going to have parents who get defensive, offended, and think that denying, instead of being open minded to cooperate, is going to make their child's bad behavior will magically disappear. At the end of the day, PARENTS become accountable for their children's behavior. I am willing to bet that the school did everything in their power since the FBI was seeing red flags. I hope I am wrong in thinking that the parents of this young man fit the type who would refuse the help but if that was the case; well then here we are.

    • @brandonfreeman7084

      "intense hours and training"
      That must happen the quarter of the year they don't work.
      Teaching might be an important job but it's not work, you're babysitters funded by the government not phycologists, who are actually educated.

    • @ladymissna
      @ladymissna 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Intense hours start the day you step into a University to start courses for your career because you have many children psychology courses that you must pass after 4 years + 2 more if you pick a certain subject like ESL, ELL Counseling or Admin. Then after graduation, through the year, you have to take more courses, more seminars, so more classes to keep your teaching license which you have to pay out of pocket. We have school trainings at the beggining of the year but that is part of your school district to get updated on the school policies and curriculum details and other obligations. Our job, our schooling never ends. Just like any other career.

Did he make those comments or not? It appears his mental health has been, that they aren't helped, an issue all along. It is sad that our healthcare system can't support people that need help and also that gun control is not being addressed. Yes, I know we have freedoms in our good ole USA but it is not working for our present times, the mentally ill and when elementary and high school kids are being murdered, just very disturbing that our country can't or won't fix this that has been happening since 1999. Started before 1999 and the only people you would be disarming would be the law abiding citizens. The criminals with illegal guns, would still have illegal guns. Then we, the law abiding citizens are really screwed. You may not appreciate or support 2A but it is a human right in this country. One we are ALL born with. That will NEVER change. It would be a horrible thing if the gov't did try it. There would be an uprising because 'We the People' are already pissed off at the state of this country. It's a soft, pathetic mess. I blame the "chronically triggered" and those who are victims of everything. Victims that do not believe in accountability, taking responsibility, etc. Being a "victim" is a choice! Either allow your ego to choose "victim" or you choose to be a SURVIVOR. I choose to be a survivor and I certainly don't need to tell people all of the bad things i've been through all the time. Stop wrapping your identity up in being a victim. It's actually pathetic. I have empathy for people buy my sympathy is short lived when all I hear is "poor me", "why me", "always me." Notice anything there? ME ME ME. EGO. Even SELF PITY is EGO. Stop thinking about yourself all the time and try doing something for someone else. Get outside of yourself for a change. So many ego driven people in this world. I bet hardly anyone knows what humility means anymore (without Googling.) Work on gaining some self awareness and some emotional and intellectual maturity. you and the world will be better for it.

    I believe the government needs to knuckle down on guns and licenses. The access to guns and mental health of teens now a days is the culprit. It’s not completely the parents fault as they should be held accountable for their kids well being and locking up firearms in their home. I believe it’s also on the government who frankly is doing jack about this whole thing. Sad, sad world for kids today and people who try to enrich their education.

    If parents are to be held accountable for a child's actions, schools should be equally responsible. Did the school report the student's violent behavior? Were appropriate disciplinary actions taken, and were parents informed of these incidents? Or did the school merely issue minimal consequences?
