People tend to seek consensus. If they hear another person's rating they tend to skew in that direction. This is probably even more true for women than men. In the first group you had your most critical rater last. In your second group you had your most critical rater first. This probably explains most of the difference in ratings.
That's an excellent point. Women rely on each other to rate men. I would be curious to see what the results would be if the women were isolated and give a rating without being influenced by the women around them.

I remember once in college, I asked a girl out and she rejected me but then during the semester, we both went to a party and I was pretty social and talked to a lot of people, mostly girls and had fun. A lot of them saw me in a positive light and wanted to hang out or gave me vibes so I'd asked them out. That same girl who rejected me was acting all coy around me when I was around giving me hints. If a girl think other girls want you, they'll want you too, it's a type of fomo on their end.

I was thinking along the lines of this. If the more “high status” men were to bring their egos lower they would attract more women. Say if the man with the rich car was to not hold his head so high, and to look slightly down at them and smile/smirk, they would then have a less of a threatening ego.

You understandably can't use the same people since they'd skew their ratings to make it appear like the car didn't matter, but the two groups clearly were very different and thus the ratings could in no way be statistically accurate.

Yeah there's definitely some truth to that, although on the other hand it's difficult to judge them (harshly) for it. In terms of confidence etc it's so much easier to be accurate in these situations without projecting, especially knowing that your opinion wasn't anonymous. I 100% guarantee you that the ratings would have been much different if they were anonymous. But yeah very clearly the girls that looked most self-confident did tend to give higher ratings. Which is re-assuring to know, ironically.

I don't think the "study" works exactly like that, because the first girl who speaks, set the tempo for the others. On group A, the first girl started with the number 7, and the rest until the group is over, is -+2. The same for group A, the first girl started with the number 4 and the rest until the group is over, is -+2. Not in every case, but in general, the first one set's the tempo for the other girls to choose a number.

Two groups are far too few for a meaningful result. In addition, a great car gives you more confidence, which can affect the experiment. It can also appear inauthentic if it doesn't suit the person. The really interesting thing for me was that one and the same guy got very different ratings from different women. Obviously tastes differ and sympathy plays a big role.

After watching this, all it made me realize is how insignificant other people's opinions are. Especially females.
