I hunt animals at this place.... I very much relish in the knowledge that a HUGE majority of people don't know what they are driving past on our beautiful southwest rural highways. And what really gets me, is that they just don't care to look deeper. These lands are plentiful if you take care to look closely. That is what is so wonderful and scary at the same time. If you don't pay attention to these deserts, they will kill you in a matter of a few days.

I like the fact that Tom incorporates his own music into his videos. In a way, the dedicated ambiance created by the audio makes the production more unique and personal.
I think the best part about it is his surroundings gave him the creative ideas needed to make the music, then it's overlaid onto the visuals that birthed it. Some inception shit right there.

I went to Chaco about a year and a half ago on that same road. Treacherous. I feel the road is not maintained because they don’t want crowds there. They make it hard to get there. I camped at Chaco in my van and was very happy that there were less people around. Only the people that really want to experience Chaco take the trouble to travel that road. I say keep it that way. It was a spiritual experience for me too. I visited the other outlying ruins around Chaco also. The ancient roads radiated out from Chaco to these settlements. Thanks for your perspective on the significance of this place. This is powerful. My favorite one so far!

What I wonder is why our government hasn't used all the updated technology to scan the area because there is said to be almost 15 cities like this in the desert. All the ground scanning equipment that they're using in the Amazon and now they are found a lost city the size of manhattan in the overgrown jungles of South America. I'm going to camp at this site next year sometime for sure.

I studied this place in college last year. Here's an excerpt from my paper: Impressive roads were also built that seem to connect to spirituality rather than other cities, extending over 250 miles. One road travels directly north for 40 miles! These people wouldn’t have needed roads for wheeled transportation though, and since “many roads did not have apparent destinations and were built wider than required for transportation by foot, it is possible the roads served a primarily symbolic or spiritual purpose, an entrance of sorts to great houses, guiding pilgrims traveling to ceremonies or other gatherings.” (Oswald 2018). So what was this place? It seems like it was a sacred pilgrimage site, maybe like a monastery where only religious and political elites visited several times a year during the solstices/equinoxes. Perhaps there was permanent settlement, but I bet the original intention of this place was for a specific religious purpose.

This is probably one of the most realistic videos I've ever seen on Chaco. The road is so sketchy, and then you're back on pavement in a whole new world. I used to want better access, better roads, but I think it really adds to the isolation and ultimately reduces traffic. I want everyone to experience that silence, but the ruins are so fragile, so only the most determined people make it there. I think they are the ones who will appreciate it the most. I'm glad you were able to convey many of the more innocent aspects of Chaco that aren't usually part of the guidebook. Next time, get there earlier and do the hike up to Pueblo Alto. You can see for hundreds of miles up there, and you feel just how large that world really was. Glad you made it out! It's a very rewarding journey.
There is something about the desert blue sky and sun that makes me comfortable. Makes me think of my childhood for some strange reason and I grew up in Ohio.

I can't think of what it is but it's in the terrain sort of like a long hill ... and I think they said underneath the mound is the possible burial chamber ? The Hopi, Navajo and Pueblo tribes have a legend that their ancestors came from underground after a long refuge from a catastrophe. They built all their buildings aligned to cardinal north and tracked the stars with incredible accuracy. When the land became less fertile they migrated north east and south into Mexico. You, my friend, are standing amongst the ruins of the ancient ancestors to the Aztecs!

I'm from England,have been a fan for around 20odd years now, and really love to travel. Last year I visited San Diego and LA on my own. I enjoyed it so much I'm planning a US trip again for 2021. I'm an avid fisherman and take my rods everywhere. The peace and quiet is amazing but to fish somewhere with history is even better. A Pueblo Indian Prayer made me sob...thinking bout my wife who I lost to cancer on Feb the 25th at 4pm 2019....trying to pick up the pieces but I am slowly failing my self.. Watching you Tom has brought Great Joy to my life and I cant stop crying....thanks man...love you dude!

I studied this place in college last year. Here's an excerpt from my paper: Impressive roads were also built that seem to connect to spirituality rather than other cities, extending over 250 miles. One road travels directly north for 40 miles! These people wouldn’t have needed roads for wheeled transportation though, and since “many roads did not have apparent destinations and were built wider than required for transportation by foot, it is possible the roads served a primarily symbolic or spiritual purpose, an entrance of sorts to great houses, guiding pilgrims traveling to ceremonies or other gatherings.” (Oswald 2018). So what was this place? It seems like it was a sacred pilgrimage site, maybe like a monastery where only religious and political elites visited several times a year during the solstices/equinoxes. Perhaps there was permanent settlement, but I bet the original intention of this place was for a specific religious purpose.
Man I'm gonna put my tin foil hat on and say all of that is such bullshit. Noone would fucking spend that much man power and resources for nothing. If anyone watches Bright Insight, Graham Hancock or Randall Carlson - you'll know that we have such an immense past that is hidden from us. There is way more to these that meets the eye, and the "spirituality" excuse that I guess Academia wanted you to pass off is cringe-worthy bullshit.
@@aristideregnier4883 That is why I speculated at the end of my comment. We have no idea what it was really for, but it seems to me to be an important place for at least religious purposes. If you think spirituality had no part here, you haven't studied ancient cultures long enough. In fact, my speculation is precisely because of people like Hancock and Carlson; we probably agree more than you'd think. It seems you misunderstood my comment.

@@NewMexican66b Wow! You could be living on one of the most significant historical sites on Earth. The glory of that place has been washed away over the centuries but its power still echoes strong today.
The roads were build to show where the tribe moved their cities during those times. It was thought that the roads indicate a sense of place moving over time. A monument to the past, and a link to the future.

Hi Tom. Big fan of your work and it’s been fun following your van-life. If you ever come to Sweden again and want to see more old stuff I would recommend that you visit Gotland. It’s a island just outside the mainland of Sweden where you find the old city Visby. It’s not abandoned but lots of the remains of the old city is still there. Best of luck and stay safe!

This is probably one of the most realistic videos I've ever seen on Chaco. The road is so sketchy, and then you're back on pavement in a whole new world. I used to want better access, better roads, but I think it really adds to the isolation and ultimately reduces traffic. I want everyone to experience that silence, but the ruins are so fragile, so only the most determined people make it there. I think they are the ones who will appreciate it the most.
I'm glad you were able to convey many of the more innocent aspects of Chaco that aren't usually part of the guidebook.
Next time, get there earlier and do the hike up to Pueblo Alto. You can see for hundreds of miles up there, and you feel just how large that world really was.

The Hopi, Navajo and Pueblo tribes have a legend that their ancestors came from underground after a long refuge from a catastrophe. You, my friend, are standing amongst the ruins of the ancient ancestors to the Aztecs!
Theres a modern theory that a comet or meteor struck the ice sheet in Quebec and rained debris all over America around 12700 bc. This could be true.
Speculation to say those are Aztec ancestors buildings.

Hi Tom, I realize you probably won't get to read this but I just wanted to let you know that your road trip with Charlie has really opend my eyes to the beauty of the lessaknown places in the states. I'm from England,have been a fan for around 20odd years now, and really love to travel. Last year I visited San Diego and LA on my own. I enjoyed it so much I'm planning a US trip again for 2021. I'm an avid fisherman and take my rods everywhere. The peace and quiet is amazing but to fish somewhere with history is even better. I do hope you get to experience some great fishing and enjoy the peace. Keep up the great vids. I really do look forward to watching them. O and btw. Massive respect to doing drews show, You two lookd great! Was really nice to see. ✌.☺

I totally agree. I swear I had this same thought the other day after stumbling back on to Tom after many years. Call it a mini epiphany but I can totally see Tom wanting to get involved in rebuilding a little town in California out in the middle of nowhere. Sounds like a great time. I tell you what....
