This whole series is awesome. These are the sides of life that many people don't get to see without something like this. Real proud that this is a local LA station production.
I am also in the same direction. 14 years of being in the trenches as a commercial carpenter from slab to fab, residential costumers driving you mental. Now a family and I’m headed to a new chapter, you can do it to !
Semper fi brother! I just got hired as construction superintendent here in Dallas. Its crazy because I have no experience in construction. I did 8 years in the Marines and was a police officer in Dallas for 6 years after getting out. This construction opportunity came out of nowhere for me and I took a chance and got the job...God is good.
Awesome! Same here, just retired from 21 yrs active duty Air Force. Reached out to a local construction company and they picked me up as an assistant super. Zero experience in construction, was a crew chief working on fighter aircraft.
How is the job going? I got an assistant super position starting next week after a few years as a carpenter. Any tips? Biggest challenges? Things I need to know
I feel sorry for cleaners having to clean up an adults mess. It's not even hard to clean up after yourself but those employees that make mess on purpose are the real problem. Idiot. So for you cleaners, my heart goes out to yall especially during this time! Pls keep safe 💛
@@EastSideGz Right, same. Generally speaking, I believe it's better to have field experience first. I mean, certain little things you'll never be able to know unless you're right there pounding the nails, you know? (Not talking you specifically.)
So what exactly do you do here? Why does he have safety gloves on. It seems his job is just walking around doing low-level safety checks. But he's got a tonne of safety gear on and he's a handsome, well-spoken white guy. Cool.
Even if you’re not doing the labor- If you’re on site, you need to wear the same safety gear as everyone else. Something could still fall on your head, etc.
Super's manage the crews. He's a step above the foreman, and he essentially is the shot caller for what work they're going to do and how they're gonna do it. He works with the project manager and project engineers and he doesn't physically do the work.
Organizes and schedules labor, manages and approves of budgets, interacts with City utility and building departments at all phases, studies plans and finds discrepancies before they happen. List goes on.. Things like BIM make the last one much easier now.

This serie is exceptional, I watched every single one of them, at night. Wished there was more.

Did you have field experience before becoming a superintendent?
No need
@@EastSideGz There's more need than you think.

I know great superintendents that came in as field assistants and went up the ranks. 27 year olds making 140k a year
