Another shot with the 2 complementary Hexachords

  • Another delayed "description". There is a piece by my teacher, Stefan Wolpe, called 'Piece in two Parts' - I think for a small group of disparate instruments - which I once heard a recording of decades ago.. The thing i remember about it is the layout. it was on two complementary hexachords and the first segment was written all on six notes - the second section had all twelve together. What I have done here goes back and forth between my own two complementary hexachords with passages using both together but retaining identifying features. This realization is the first of two segments which I have now written. ( "Catch" in the score means to undamp a note or note group with the middle pedal - subsequent soundings of that note or notes are indicated by beginning tie signs.) Most of the time here there are either no catches, or C1 (middle C) is caught, and there is a passage where G1 and small Bb are caught. Thank you for coming here. Paul Betjeman

      thanks -- I hope I'm not running out of gas with this stuff. There still is more I can do with it despite the notation being not always clear rhythmically.
