@@winterwolf9797To be fair (as an N.I. person) some people here have accents that sound close to Scottish accents. The N.I. guy who was formerly a mechanic; I could understand how people might think he's Scottish. The North East of N.I. is, after all, only a short hop to Scotland.
Difficult as an Irishman and Republican (no my American friends..not the GOP..think more French Revolution ) to understand an Irish regiment in the army of our former oppressors but nonetheless, a tradition manifested simply from the hot fires of the Boer war from the extreme the bravery and fighting skills of Irishmen is certainly to be respected. Just don't ever show up on our shores in uniform again lads and we'll be alright ;)
Well the UK and Ireland have closer ties together in the modern age. So it's not that difficult to understand unless your head is stuck in the early 20th century.

ROI will have to make a new flag to represent everyone on the island of ireland (a flag not associated with the IRA and literally created to represent armed struggle). 2. New national anthem 3. Nothing Irish about being born in Ireland (both north and south), as many of these guys are? That's an interesting perspective. Bit like saying there's nothing Nepalese about the Gurkhas, and nothing German about the Kings German Legion, made up of expat Hanoverians, which was part of the British Army during the 19th Century.
Respect, from California. I would fight by your side with pride.
My uncle died in 1944 with Joe Vanderleur's boys advancing towards Arnhem.
I joined the army when I was 17 until 24. I’m 42 and I still miss it.

My pal the paratrooper is - as you'd expect - not given to throwing around compliements. But he rates the Guards.

40% of the regiment are from Southern Ireland, so yes they are Irish.
You can be Irish and British. Why do you feel the need to write something so daft? I see this often. It’s not an isolated incident.
