I married the love of my life in 1988 at the beautiful Basilica of Notre Dame in Montreal and baptized my three children there too. It was the happiest day of my life with such beautiful memories to treasure in such a beautiful place surrounded by our loving God, our saviour Jesus Christ.😊

I visited this basilica over the weekend and it was one of the most beautiful buildings I have seen in my life, and I'm pretty well traveled around Europe and East Asia.
I just want to say that the photographs and videos really do not capture it at all. I noticed this over the weekend too, I was taking pictures and video (you are allowed to) just in awe over how magnificent it was, but it didn't translate so the pictures are kind of mediocre... So go in person! It is beautiful.

Note: During prayer hours, the Basilica is free to enter but you are not allowed to take any pictures. To help with the upkeep of the church, there is a fee during tourist hours, which includes a free 20-min tour with a guide (in English or French, make sure to ask when the next tour starts) and you can take as many pictures as you want.

The West Tower (La Persévérance), houses a bourdon the bell nicknamed Jean-Baptiste that only tolls on special occasions.
The East Tower (La Temperance), houses a ten-bell carillon from the same foundry in May 24, 1843.

I also enjoy visiting churches, cathedrals and basilics, but yet there is something that makes me sad about all that. It turns those places into some kind of museums or desacralized buildings, even if apparently there are special hours for celebrations. People walking into that building, totally oublivious or ignorant that Jesus Christ is in the tabernacle. Nobody seems caring for God above their head.

    - If we are so struck by the beauty and harmony of the world physical, then what can we expect from the world spiritual...?
" Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (1 Cor 2:9 KJV)
" Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also... Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Mat 6:20,21, 33 KJV)

I think it's the Australian visitor who repeatedly calls the church a "cathedral." I wish he'd shut up until he knows what he's talking about. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal is headquartered in the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral. That is the location of the Archbishop's throne, his "cathedra." Notre Dame is one of the churches - a major church, for sure - within the Archdiocese. But it is not the cathedral.

Glad you clarified. I was surprised by the men wearing caps inside. It obviously was not prayer time, but when did it become okay for men to wear hats inside a house of God? I guess marketing itself as a tourist attraction leads to that. I know I am an oldfart.

Looks more like an opera house than a church with those balconies. It reminds me of those eighteenth century Protestant churches like the ones built in London after the great fire by architects like Wren and Gibbs or those baroque Protestant churches in Germany like the Frauenkirche in Dresden -destroyed in World War Two but thankfully recently rebuilt.

Yes it may look beautiful,...but the church is "not,"... the place of worship,...it's the "people,"...the Bible tells us who the "church," is.
There are two churches, the book of Revelation speak of, that have a title, either the pure woman of the people of her church that is Gods, Holy remnant church, of (Revelation...12.), or the unpure church that worships an unholy church,(Revelation 18),...that is they that follow that woman,...arrayed in the colours, of the system of rome, the black & white scarlet - red crimson & pearls & gold.
It's very easy to learn who that woman symbolises,...& wen the decree goes forth to have wot pope francis is pushing for, "for, his common good, of Sunday,...for to hold back climate change, (which is the cover - up version),...(as is covid is,....to the people), of the world,...the pope rules the world for 3 . 5yrs,...during that time,...before Christ's second comming, for His pure Holy church,....there will be the (reign of terror), tyranny & anarchy, that the world has never seen since the time of the horrifying things of death that came upon the world, @ the time of the reformation, & aforetime,...till this 21st century,....we are surely in today,....the tyranny that the world is in @ present in 2021, with the battle between Joe Biden & Donald Trump,....is just the start of the anarchy, the riots that have gone into killings,...Joe Biden, pope francis likes very much, cos hes "catholic,".....ask the Lord to open your eyes that You might see, as did, William Tyndale said, before the flame went upon him,...for the time of King Henry the Vlllths for his eyes to be opened to the truth,....I, leave you with this, that God may speak to you by His power, of His Holy Spirit, that dwells in the pure church of (Revelation 12.),... & that You wud not choose to follow the unpure church of (Revelation 18),...as this churches system, will enforce the world to follow her ways,...Gods remnant church,...will never enforce people to follow her, but by the empowering of the Holy Spirit, to choose freely, whom will, by the Grace of God, thru none other than any other, system here, in this sinful evil earth that evil works thru the leaders of this corruption that, our sins have corrupted this earth God created @ the beginning of time, as we know it,... ( to those of us in the world that do beleive in the creation of this world), & Amen,...to this.
