This guy is making this old Silvertone (Sears Roebuck) arch top guitar sing! I saved up my money from selling newspapers and my Mom found me this same guitar in 1966! She paid the guy $17 from my money jar and I had a guitar. Sure it had electric guitar strings and the action was a full half inch at the twelfth fret, but I had a guitar. Later, the pick guard broke and I tossed it. Then, when I was about 20 somebody stepped on it and crushed in the top! Off to the dump it went! Damn, I wash I had it still.
The one I’m playing here is similar to the one I learned on, which belonged to my dad, when I was a kid. That guitar was laid on the couch (life lesson here), and my sister sat on it. Many, many years later, I saw this guitar on eBay. A good friend of mine took it entirely apart, and expertly put it back together again. It sounds like the one in my memory. Thanks for watching, Philip
Nice job Mr. Jaynes. I tried to pick this off of the "I saw the light" video but they didn't show all the chords in the video. I went to my usual chords and lyrics sites and they were doing D chord to start................hmmm I poked around and found you and gave a listen. I believe this was just about verbatim to the vid. Once I learned it I went back and played along to that video and Shazaam........................KUDOS big guy
It is a late 40's/early 50's Silvertone archtop like the one I learned to play on as a kid. I bought it in pieces on Ebay, and had it put back together. I love the sound.
Matt G, it is in E. There is a C#7, and an F# in there, too. The bridge alternates between A flat and C sharp minor. You should be able to pick the chords up from the video. If you have any questions, let me know.
Standing ovation for that!
Those old guitars usually had super high action, which makes the playing here all that much more impressive. Great job.
Awesome ! Lovesick blues is my grandpa's favorite song . Great rendition.
Dang!!!!! What a great cover and wow what a great guitarist!!!
Excellent! I watched a bunch of covers of this tonight -- you easily have the best guitar work.
I love this and plan to learn your version. In Hank Sr songs, Hank uses the guitar more for a beat. The vocals and the slide pedal carry the song.
Thank you for actually playing the correct version of the song. I will learn this now so thank you :)
thank you for this. The only good version out there you can learn

Awesome work! Is it the original way of playing? I mean, did Hank Williams play this version himself or is it an arrangement?
Arrangement
What key is this in? I've been trying to learn the song and simply cannot get it right...
