My 2nd and 3rd great grandmothers both received Civil War pensions for their service as nurses during that war.
    Thank you for this information.

I've found quite a few draft cards, but no actual service records, so this is very helpful. Thank you.

You mentioned a handout containing this information....where might we find that? This has been SO informative and helpful! I love how well organized this has been as well as visually showing us how to navigate finding records. THANK YOU!

I love NARA, but be aware - anyone who orders records is going to be waiting a LONG time! I have been waiting 11 months now for my grandfather's service records. They did have to be reconstructed, but I was told I may have to resubmit for them at some point, because they are prioritizing veteran's records for recently deceased (for burials), and not much else due to services being minimized during the pandemic.

Very informative! Where would I find a name change among military records? I was told my grandfather changed his name when he enlisted for WWII, but I am not sure what to request to get paperwork on that. Thanks!

Great question - there are a couple of options that may assist you. Each RootsTech class has a chat group. You can go back to this class and scroll down below the video to see the chat option. Another option is looking in the FamilySearch Community (community.familysearch.org/s/) for more help on Military records and to find how to get information on name changes.
