AtGames Legends Ultimate - It's been Modded!

  • In this quick Livestream, we MOD the Legends Ultimate Arcade by AtGames. This Mod will allow you to continue to use the AtGames system as well as leverage a RaspberryPi for new games.
    Note: Please proceed with caution if you decide to do this to your system. You do run the risk of damaging the wiring if you choose to do this to your system. You also need to be aware that because I'm piggybacking on the controls, it has some caveats. The AtGames system will NOT sense the inputs when you're running on the Pi HDMI input. However, if you leave the Pi powered on when using the AtGames System, it will be moving the menu system and registering your inputs. In the more detailed video, I plan to have an option to safe power up and power down the Pi when you plan to use it. Remember that this is what I'm calling a brute force MOD, it's simple, but it's far from perfect. I hope you enjoy and please leave a comment below if you have any questions. I will get to your comments as quickly as I can. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel, it's much appreciated.

    because you just tapped into the controls lines, does that mean you are actually controlling 2 systems at the same time even if your not looking at the second system atm? say your scrolling and clicking buttons on the pi input, are you still scrolling and clicking buttons on the atgames side to in the background?

    • @BobMcCouch
      @BobMcCouch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was going to ask the same. If there is no isolation of the controls when one HDMI input is selected vs. the other (and I don’t see how there is here), each input would be seen by each system. So as you’re playing a game on one, you’re doing who knows what (starting another game, digging into a settings menu, whatever) on the other. This probably “works” but it’s pretty janky.

    • @benjaminapeterson
      @benjaminapeterson 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BobMcCouch yeah but if you are concerned about that, just disconnect it from the internet first.

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re using the pi, it does NOT move the menu system on the AtGames system. Remember that the system was built to be able to use other HDMI inputs. One of these is the AtGames blast system. It does however move the menu on the pi if you’re on the AtGames system. This is something I will cover in the full video. I was thinking of having a way of powering down the pi when it’s not in use. This is a day Zero mod so it’s not perfect but it’s the only way right now to play arcade games on the cabinet without paying for one of their services to gain access to the games you want or already own.

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice mod, Ralph! Not surprised lol.
    So does this mean that instead of a pi, we can hook up a PC to the Atgames arcade, or has that not been discovered yet?
    Also, do we have the option to use/add our own buttons and joysticks to the control deck?

      Jug-A-Nuts you definitely could but you would need to get a Brooke encoder board to change over the controls or something comparable to a Brooke. Then you can switch from console controls to arcade. You start getting into some big $ doing that though. Last I saw the one Brooke encoder was like $89. Imo it’s only good to do it for fighting games or games that only use a few buttons.

    So when you switched from the Pi to the other interface the Pi was at the menu on an Ice Hockey game, then when you switched back (after moving the joystick around a bit) the Pi was on a different selection. So you’re just switching the input while both systems are still using the control deck simultaneously? Is there any chance that could cause some weird stuff to happen if you’re playing a game in one system, meanwhile your button presses are navigating and making random selections in the other system?

      Thinking the same for mine. I am curious how the HDMI input connections work - are they routed through the PCB or are they acting as a remote input source directly into the LCD controller board? I think these might be the "killer app" for this machine allowing Chromecasts, blast modules, mini consoles, and even PC sticks to run on this.

      @@benjaminapeterson Yes, I am sorry, you are right. I changed my words. BUT I think 1up is too small overall and uses cheap quality hardware. People mod it to make it good and spend even more money. I know ATgames has a bad reputation but the UL Cab seems to have the right size with great build quality and many control options for ~100 Bucks more than the competition and the people still complaining !?WTF!

      I actually think this is still the best option. Only thing I would add is a power switch to shut the pi down when it's not in use. Thanks for watching!

      😂 Yeah, It didn't exist at this time, this video is old as hell. It's when the ALU first came out and they were doing new firmware releases practically multiple times a day. 😂
