- In the valley of Kashmir, lying between the Himalayan mountains, lies a tradition that has endured for centuries - pigeon fancying and racing. For the people of Kashmir, these birds are not just mere pets, but symbols of pride and a way of life.
Taking a journey through the streets of Srinagar, where I met the pigeon fanciers who have dedicated their lives to breeding and training these feathered athletes.
The bond between the pigeon and its owner is something that is held in high regard, with many trainers taking great care in training their birds to become strong racers. As the championships draw near, the excitement among the competitors is high, with each trainer hoping to win the championship with their beloved bird. The passion and dedication for these winged athletes are an evidence to the long lasting relationship between humans and animals in the region.
