I was at that game. Loved seeing games in Carmichael. Dean really knew how to use his bench and there were some great role players on that team. Steve Hale is underappreciated in my opinion. Great defensive player.

my high school Spanish teacher played with Hale back in Oklahoma. He said Hale used to wear him out in practice.

Dean and Lefty had so many close battles, including when Lefty was at Davidson and Dean beating him back to back years (68 and 69) in the elite 8 with Charlie Scott who almost went to Davidson. Then when Lefty ended up at James Madison UNC won after being 10 down with a minute to go.

People can say all day that coach k is the goat but DES owned him head to head. he won 9 of the last 10 matchups against k. Coach Smith was the smartest, savviest coach I have ever seen.

I played against Popson in high school about 100 years ago. He was the #1 rated center in the US his senior year but never became a star in college. I actually thought another big guy from our conference that same year, Larry Koretz, was better and had more potential. Koretz outplayed Popson head to head in high school, then starred for LaSalle for four years. Was playing pro ball in France when a drunk driver ran him over on a sidewalk and ruined his leg.

Do you happen to have the 1984 game at Duke when they had a similar comeback? Can't find that game anywhere for some reason. Thanks - love your channel.

Always been a big Carolina fan but unfortunately, I didn't get to watch that game. I was deployed in the Navy at that time. I never got to see Brad Doherty play in college.
