ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!

the experiences your kids are getting is priceless!! hope you enjoy your stay in Malaysia.
Thank you so much!
I'm a Singaporean and I used to travel to Malacca during the school holidays with my family when I was kid. We would go to Jonker and have a good time.
The highlight was this Guinness Record holding kungfu dude who used to pierce open a coconut shell with just his index finger. I wonder if he's still doing shows at Jonker.
Thanks for bringing back old memories and stay happy and healthy.
That's awesome! Our family really enjoyed the experience of visiting Jonker street!
Malaysia definitely a great destination for food lovers....
It really is!
Both of you guys really taught your kids so well with all that manner and everything, thats what a proper family looks like. Really enjoying your videos, enjoy your stay in Malaysia and be safe.✌🏼

Melaka the best place

Oh yes! :-)
It's awesome that your kids are not picky eaters and they're game to try any food.
You can try straits Chinese food. Nyonya peranakan food. Fusion of Chinese and malay. Eg ayam pongteh, nyonya laksa etc etc
Do not miss trying out Melaka's Baba Nyonya cuisines. They're one of a kind specialty, and they're family friendly dishes too.😊
Glad to see jonker street full of life again. During the pandemic the colourful trishaw people had no business.
Mr. Jonathan, you really remind me of an actor who played Michael j fox 's father. ( Classic sitcom ' family ties') . Very cool and hip father... .)
Ha! Growing up in the 80's, I loved that show!
Nice to see Forest wake and eating anything..... Btw the Sotong bakar is a good beer companion.
I think the meat that granite eat is tongue.
A beer would be great!

Glad you enjoyed it! We really like visiting Jonker Street.
Granite looks super cute like an exotic species of cat with his slanted eyes. My kid brother looked like that at that age.
It's really impressive that not only you and your wife, even ur kids can adapt so well to the food in Malaysia, i bet the food here is very different with those u have in the US, ur kids are definitely getting so much cultural exposure and it inspires me so much... I wish to take my kids all over the world in the future as well...

Definitely a great way to end the video with the coconut show. I didn't see that coming tbh..😂
Granite, your face is very similar to the actor Dalton in the movie Insidious Chapter 1😊Handsome❤
The first bbq stick which Granite had was actually smoked duck meat
Thanks for the correction! It was delicious!
Nicesss
I absolutely love Pani Puri, or Puri Puri. I could literally eat them for hours! 10 MYR.... I get charged $10+ for them in Australia!
I absolutely love seeing Forest eat some of this food. He's definitely getting the family bug.
Thank you some much!
this message prob came late but I hoped you've tried the Malaka cendol, sweet cool desert for sunny days.
Lets try cendol kampung hulu
Please share this with any of the vendors in this video 🎉 We don’t have their contact information and they served such delicious foods 😋
It is in Jonker’s street, Malacca
Your family has very adaptable tastebud! I am a Malaysian and I don't even like those dried squids 😂Maybe you can try some of our best durians like musang king, red prawn, D24 etc
I personally recommend to give it a shot on crispy egg tart, the texture is just perfect instead of having a thick base of biscuit. Try get get one at TK Bakery, their egg tart and kaya puff are extremely popular till now ~ Love from an ordinary Malaysian
this make me so hungry
I want to go back! 🤤
Next time you go to nite market (pasar malam) , try the fried ayam gunting
(Ayam=chicken
Gunting =scissor )
scissor)
Should cook lala with ginger and garlic
Poh Piah or thin biscuit is make from sweet turnip cut into thin slices as the main ingredient.
Nice family
yall have to try oyster omelette, that food is delicious

the dried squid grilled is asian chewing gum😅savoury sweet, the darker ones are little chillie spiced
I Think LEGO LAND IS IN MALAYSIA❤
Just a thought cus you're close by and I'd love to see it Vietnam and Thailand ❤
Both are high on our travel list!!
The brown filling for Poh Piah normally is fried braised turnip cooked in oyster & sweet soy sauce
Yes! Thank you for the added info. It was quite delicious!
@Bags Packed Family it is a Chinese food. So when you see lumpia or lumpiah in Philippines or Indonesia it is Chinese origin. They may fry it like malays in Malaysia. The original is soft skin and vegetarian. Some people put pork lard, Chinese sausages in it. But basically it consist of turnips, eggs, fried onions, cucumbers. The sweet sauce is oyster sauce or Chinese red sweet sauce we called Tim cheong"
Pani puri😮
👏🏻
Foresttttt you’re too cute with those little bites 😂
Jonker??? Its My Father Name...
WOOOOOWWWW
Poh Piah does not have noodles but filled with strips of jicama aka bangkuang and egg omelet.
