Every time I come back to Sibelius I am happy to return. His music is scintillating and this performance is a delight. And always love this orchestra and its generosity is making full performances available on TH-cam. Thanks everyone.
The feeling of pleasure, well-being and fulfillment generated by listening to Sibelius over and over again with different orchestras provokes joy and gratitude towards life itself.
“Ach du lieber, mein schatz”!!!!! In ALL my 82 years of life here on earth, this is probably one of the greatest performances of one of the greatest symphonies I’ve ever heard, bar none! WOW! PASSION at its utmost!! The soloists were fantastically fine & precise!! It’s a wonderful thing to see the musicians “animated”, full of the passion of the music!!! The cameraman did a pretty fine job of highlighting the soloists as they played. Fine young conductor too! Wish though the cameraman would have “highlighted” the tuba player more! What wonderful “body” he added to the tremendous music! GREAT GREAT GREAT performance of a FANTASTIC SYMPHONY! “Viva la Jean Sibelius & Finland”!!!
Another great performance by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony orchestra. under the baton of Tarmo Peltokoski (who is as dynamic as they come). I've always loved the music of Sibelius and this is no exception.
A wonderfully "revealing" reading. The up tempo takes off the drab blanket so many traditionalists lay over this piece. I've listened to it hundreds of times and never thought until this hearing, "What an odd, but beautiful statement this piece is."
As many times as I've heard this beloved symphony by many ensembles, I can safely say I've never heard it like this. Which is in no way a complaint. Peltokoski gives it fascinating new wrinkles in tempi and dynamics. Kept me intrigued and engaged throughout. And intensely moved. Proof you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. It would be wonderful to hear his take on the other symphonies. And of course FRS's playing is inspired throughout.
I'd forgotten how much I love this glorious symphony! What a crack ensemble ... instant subscibe. Bravo! And whew here is a conductor for the new generation blessed with so many fabulous young musicians!! Wonderful. Thank you!
This, Three, and Six have long been my favorite Sibelius symphonies, and easily among my favorite all time symphonic pieces. This is a stunning, fresh performance. I love the Frankfurt Radio channel! Thank you for so much great music...
That is the best case made for this symphony that I have heard in a very long time. And the orchestra members seemed quite happy afterwards - always a good sign. Thank you.
A fantastic performance. This is one of the best renditions of the scherzo I have ever heard. So clean. And I loved that stretched transition into the trio.
The wind section did such an excellent job, I especially love the flute sections of the piece, which I see as an absolute highlight in the piece. Clarinet was likewise amazing. Great performance.
The musicians must be having a blast with the score. So many meaningful solos and parts to play for all participants. I think the brass section is specially highlighted by Sibelius.
@@maximiliangeier9637 geht mir auch so. Ich fragte nur, weil Sie schrieben, es sei Ihre Lieblingssinfonie. Ich denke, dass die 2. und 5. Sinfonie die 1. noch überragen.
Recommended: Sibelius 1 . Sinfonie. hr Sinfonieorchester. Tarmo Peltokoski. Frankfurt. I haven’t heard this piece of music before but it’s a pleasure to listen to, being unaware of what will happen, as the orchestra progresses through till the end. The orchestra are such talented musicians and work their magic through this piece, unknown to me, unfortunately. It’s enjoyable enough but not gripping me 🧐 fully. I may return to it again in the future. Thank You for allowing me to listen to your music and your wonderful musicians. From : Birmingham, England 🏴
Never has the finale been more. fantasy like than in this rendition. Quasi una fantasia, indeed! The bold Karelian fury changed, with huge dynamic step, to the. breathtaking romantic hymns, that were more dreamy than ever. Especially the last upcoming of the. romantic melody was at the same time so airy and. passionate, that I moved to. some. interspace, in which there is no time but eternal duration and light. Love and warmth, that carries you away. I appreciated, how the somewhat tragic coda climax of the finale was. given, in some manner, the nature of a calm epilogue. No need to make overt gestures there. This resolution gave all the power to the. passionate melody before it. There was, in the last upcoming of the passionate melody, also a convincing reference to the introduction of the symphony. I mean the manner, in which the melancholically dreamy clarinet theme comes back. Like Notaire 2 said in their comment, details of this performance were. thoroughly. investigated. They had functional characteristics. I found myself thinking the national.romantic decoration of the majestic. Jugend buildings. Alongside the finale, especially the scherzo was boldly reshaped and sounded fresh. No capses there either, perfect balance. It made a fine introduction to the finale. Although the tempo was fast, the more peaceful part has never sounded so meticulous. Listen, how skilfully the. batton, the theme. goes from one instrument to another. Also the. last part of the very second part sounded fresh and youthful . Dynamics changed sharply, again. The atmosphere was relaxed, indeed - dreaming, that paved way to the fantasy of the finale. Thanks, again Frankfurt orchestra.
My first time seeing this young conductor. Impressive! While some might be put off by some of his more extreme gestures, the orchestra appears to be totally at one with him, responding to his every move. I don't see any annoyance on their faces at his demonstrative movements so, if it's O.K. with them, it's O.K. with me. I look forward to more from this outstanding young talent...
LOVE the fast pace he takes the Scherzo! That was used as the theme of the NBC Nightly News way, way before John Williams. This is a wondrous performance.
1. Sinfonie e-Moll op. 39 ∙ I. Andante, ma non troppo - Allegro energico 00:09∙ II. Andante (ma non troppo lento) 11:51∙ III. Scherzo: Allegro 21:35∙ IV. Finale (Quasi una fantasia): Andante - Allegro molto 26:55∙
The young conductor is so different from L. Bernstein, who has a name for conducting this symphony, but the result for me is the same - emotionally draining in the best way. What's the protocol, if any, with the flowers? The nearest female musician? The harpist is brilliant anyway - they all are. Bravo! 🙂💙

Endlich ein Dirigent, der für die Musik lebt, nicht wie Orozco-Estrada, der nur an sein Show interessiert war. Wie gut, dass er Frankfurt verlassen hat🎉
Yet again, wonderful music making but DREADFUL camera work. Classic case in point, the rather gorgeous little violin solo in the first movement: what is the camera pointed at? second violins pizzing ... really?
What an utter fool. Not shaking hands but rather an elbow rub. RIDICULOUS. He just had the entire orchestra breathing in front of him the whole concert but then can't shake hands?
Definitely one of this planet’s premier orchestras, no question.

How can one NOT love Sibelius' genius? Especially his symphonies, so lush, so carefully orchestrated.
