Pop chronic 19 Absolutely incredible album. There’s some other weird things that appear on it. I was really shocked when I heard the proper versions because I’d grown up with the pop chronki
I agree. I have them both and the opening track on Broken Arrows called Music Is The Answer was played by Free on their 73 shows. On my bootlegs it is called Intro 73.
Didn't know that.. Heard a boot "Live at the Coatham Bowl" Wendell Richardson on guitar . . It was poor . . Have one of Rabbit's later albums "Run for cover" again not good.. Sharks first two are good ( I know there's no Free connection in the 2nd but it's more than decent.. Chris Spedding is a cracking player , I'd have loved to heard him adding guitar to the the Andy Fraser Band album
There is quite a bit of confusion over who sings lead vocals on many of the songs on this album. I always thought that Kirke sang lead on 'Anna' and Kossoff on 'Colours', with Rabbit singing all the rest. Some people insist that Kirke sang lead on 'Hold On' and 'Dying Fire'. This surprised me as (like yourself) I bought the album back in the early 1980s and I was fairly sure that it was Rabbit singing on those songs. Listening again, I am not so sure now!
@@portcullis5622 Definitely Kirke on Anna and Koss on Colours. Rabbit certainly does most of the singing and his Texan drawl is a bit of a giveaway. I think it's Kirke on Hold On but I might need to double check. Rodgers sang it when Free played it live so that might suggest it wasn't Kirke as he didn't sing it with Free but having said that Rodgers sang Anna on the second Bad Company album. Going from memory though I think you are right about Kirke singing it and also Dying Fire too. I will stick it on when I get home.
@@portcullis5622 played the album when I got in and I am now certain we are correct. I base my findings on diction phrasing and vocal melody. The Kirke sung songs have a different feel to the Rabbit ones. In a similar way to Andy Fraser's 70s solo albums you can hear that Kirke is using a structure and phrasing in the same way Rodgers does. They obviously picked that up from working with him... which Rabbit hadn't done yet. I used my CD copy tonight so I could jump from track to track and back. More you do it more obvious it is. ANNA, DYIBG FIRE, HOLD ON are Simon Kirke. The rest (except Colours) are, Rabbit. Thanks for the comment and giving me an excuse to listen to the album again. Cheers.
@@crushedcustard Thanks. With Free being my favourite band for the last 40 odd years, it has surprised me that I hadn't noticed Simon Kirke singing on more than one song, until now. You are right, both Kirke and Andy Fraser (on his solo albums) appear to have been heavily influenced in their phrasing and singing style by Paul Rodgers. It is a much overlooked album. I now see it as the 'lost' Free album. It took me about 2 years to find a second hand copy in the early 1980s. In fact, it was a school friend who found it one day in a second hand record shop. Lacking the funds to buy it, he hid it for me in the easy listening section, so I could go and buy it the next day during my school lunch break!
I think i paid £25 for my vinyl in about 82 or 83 and bought a CD copy when one came out too. I think you can pick up a CD for about a fiver these days. Nice connection getting David Clayton to get you a copy !

I think this is a severely underrated album . . Rabbit's first two albums "Broken Arrows" and "Dark Saloons" are well worth checking out

I need to give that Pop Chronik album another spin. Was a gig surprise the first time I heard that version of Travelling Man
@ for me I only knew PC19 version of it , so for me it was the other way round
