Crime and thieves scares businesses away. My boyfriend's mom said that once, Hollywood where Chelsea is had full of businesses until crime sent them away.

Theft, Shoplifting and General Anti-social Behavior is what forces a lot of these stores to close

Another sad result of not enforcing the law. You can't have a business where lawlessness is the norm. This will sadly have to gut much much worse before it gets better.

This is just a surface level problem, nothing can change unless some foundational problems are dealt with. White flight was a contributing factor, but all that's being done to remedy that is gentrification and all that's going to do is make financiers and real estate tycoons even richer, and push the poor into even worse situations. But there's an even bigger contributing factor at play, the destruction of the family, 50 years ago western society had a sexual revolution that has undermined and assaulted the family which of course is the foundation of society, without it you won't have a functional society...for long. Ladies, don't give unto a man of yourself until he puts a ring on you, and Men, respect and honor women like you expect other men to treat your mom, settle down, get married and raise a family. The aforementioned problem indeed was a racial issue, segregation Era whites didn't want blacks into their neighborhoods so they left taking all the jobs with them, the cats out of the bag on that, you're not going to fix it with gentrification. But the breakdown of the family has been devastating to every community. Can we change?
    Obviously an opinion piece.

it's so hard to find a store close to anybody's neighborhood anymore Krogers is not no longer in Atlanta Georgia it's all about Publix or Walmart no more Winn-Dixie's there's barely even the Spanish store called sedano's maybe you can do bravos which is another Spanish store but I mean other than that like the community really needs this store for older people who can't get around but would like to have groceries and their house even if it's in a white community or a black community something got to give is something has to change immediately

When Kroger's grocery store first opened on Lamar/Airways it was a grand event. It had everything you wanted to buy. I used to shop there. Then in the late 2000s the store started cutting back on different items to be sold. I myself had to go to other stores to buy different varieties of fish and can goods and baking goods. So I and many others stopped going. Over the years only went in to buy tiny amounts of groceries.

the problems are getting better security systems to watch the stores, they don’t wanna build and stay in black neighborhoods, and communities, whenever white communities move out they take all the stores, and ,restaurants, resources with them, black and hispanic neighborhoods always suffers the most not only in Memphis and other the entire country, homeless people who dont have transportation to get to the better stores, binghampton had a beautiful store location, it’s always boils from who is living in these communities whenever new stores even considered the location from the beginning its systemic racism.
