I was just at Walmart last night for guinea pig pellets and came out empty-handed and disgusted. I ended up across the street at Tractor Supply. They sell Oxbow and that is okay for me while I am waiting for the pellets I use to come in the mail. II find many times stores around me have high-grade food for cats, dogs, and even rabbits sometimes, but rarely do they have high-quality food for guinea pigs. It drives me crazy. I try to tell them "if you sell it I will come!"

The pine bedding is listed as kiln dried on Walmart's website and I would consider the box of hay a good option compared to bags if you have limited space. Not bad if Walmart is one of your only options and you want to avoid pet stores that sell animals! But I order pellets elsewhere.

Just wanted to let you know that the pine wood pet bedding IS kiln dried. You have to read the back left panel on the bag where it talks about the features of the bedding, but it’s there. I had to get this particular bedding when I ran out the last time and I’ve used it for my mice, guinea pigs and one of my 3 snakes and haven’t had any issues except for it seems like there’s some kind of painted or white-coated type of wood that was used to make some of the chips/flakes of the bedding. It’s cheaply made for sure, but it does absorb moisture well and only has a faint odor of wood to it that gets a bit stronger when fully saturated (I used it for one of my royal pythons and dampened it with water. It holds humidity well so far but it’s only been one day so far).
I think that the small pet aisle needs someone knowledgeable about small pets to order appropriate products for them so customers who aren’t as familiar with what’s good, bad or unnecessary for their animals don’t get the wrong things and end up with a sick or malnourished pet.

Good video Scotty. The only thing I buy for my guinea pigs from Wal-Mart is the forage from Rosewood. It's actually cheaper from Walmart than any other places that I saw it for sale. I've been giving my girls it in their hay for 5 years and they love it. No problems with it so far. I just sprinkle about 3/4 cup of it in their hay pile 1 time a week. The rest of the stuff is no good for them. I live in the USA.

Been watching your channel since you were at about 8k subs. I have learned sooooo much about piggies, and am very grateful. I haven’t had any pigs since I was 12/13, and looking back there were def some things I wish I had done diff. I originally had a single boy named Sammy. My parents bought me a book that was about Guinea pig care. After reading they need a friend, my parents got me a friend of Sam, named Charlie. By some
Miracle they got along just fine(for the most part). Sam was half the size of Charlie, but as very much wore the pants in the relationship. Also, their cage for underside, not horribly but it could have been bigger. Gave them a good diet, plenty of floor time, outside time, and love. I miss them dearly, and am grateful they came
To live each other. I am currently thinking of rescuing a pair
If boys, and thanks to Scotty, I will be able to give them an amazing life! Thank you for all you do Scotty!

These product types are so common to see, even in England and the Netherlands. There are so many products that common shops sell, that are awful for guineapigs, rabbits and many other smaller pets. Sadly, as many are cheap, people will go for the less nutritional options, even more expensive ones. Petshops are still bad at this, too. What always gets me with petshops, is the crappy products, sold for our smaller animals, which petshops reccomend. Best, always, to do your research. Yes, many rescue places will have better advice and more trust worthy information. You always do the best videos, with every day situations like this. You help so many people and their guineapigs. I feed my piggies Walmart hay and pellets. I tried getting them a special blend from a local small business pet store but they didn't really take to it so its Walmart hay. I am definitely going to be getting pellets elsewhere from now on. I bought them that log too and and those little round green flat things. I give them one a day and wont be buying anymore though based on your video. I trust your input. As for the log they love chewing on it and went through a few already. I agree with you completely, the small pet section at Walmart is bad for both guinea pigs and rabbits. I used to buy the paper bedding there and the timothy hay until their prices went way up, and I added 2 piggies to my household. We have a feed store close buy that I used to buy hay from for my rabbit, but after she got infested with chicken mites I quite buying it there. It took about 6 months to rid both her and our house of them. I had to buy all new bedding and stuff for her because I was afraid to use any of it even after cleaning it completely. So now I just buy my hay online, afraid to try the feed store hay again.

They have baby chickens for sale all the time. I just need to find another supply store in the area.

Interesting to see what's available in a store like this in the US. We have two main pet stores in the UK which are Pets at Home and Pets Corner. There are others but those are 2 big ones. There is the same problem here. Lots of rubbish, waste of money, poor nutrition products. Our hay here is different and does vary in quality and whether it was looked after properly from harvest and also en route to store. Bedding tends to be expensive. There are fewer guinea pig foods to choose from, the two main brands being Burgess and Science Selective which are decent quality. The are fewer of the museli types over here but plenty of those honey coated seed sticks and pointless other "treats". All in all similar problems with alot of brightly coloured rubbishy products to tempt the unsuspecting public. Such a shame when good nutrition is the key to good health in general.
The veg isle looked good. Lotsa yummy salady/veggie stuff!

Thank you ScottyI'm happy you gave your input on Walmart GP stuff, Very interesting and helpful because I get my piggy Aiden's Smallworld pellets and Timothy hay at Walmart. I guess I'll look elsewhere for pellets. My Walmart Doesn't have much for Guinea Pigs besides bags and boxes of hay, bags of pellets which I know now are not very good for piggies, bags of bedding, I used to buy big bags of Pine shavings till I switched to fleece. I also get Naturals Nature Salad, Aiden loves it I remove the seeds from that. They also have those Edilogs, I have one of those, Aiden doesn't care for it. They also have Edibowls which are the same as the Edilogs but they're bowls and Aiden loves chewing on those. My Walmart also has all that other stuff that should not be targeted to Guinea Pigs and yes I have bought those items till I learned they are not good for GPs.

Hey Scotty. Recently my guinea pig has been acting strange, and I don’t know if it’s due to a sickness. When we notice this, he makes a muffled squeak while arching his back, then he freezes in place. I’ve been looking all over the web, and I can’t find a solution or a glimpse of what it is. He is around 2-3 years old, and is being less active than usual. He has these episodes multiple times throughout the day. We regularly feed him greens, hay, and let him forage in grass. I’m a new guinea owner, so If anyone knows what’s going on, It would be much appreciated! Thanks.

One of my guinea pigs got a C vitamin deficiency and is fine now after treatment. I now give both of my guinea pigs one of theose C vitamin cookies, but sometimes they dont want to eat them. Do you have any advise on how to get them to eat the cookie without forsing them to eat it?

Things that I've liked at Walmart are these rabbit pellets by Rosewood Naturals. The ingredients look very guinea pig friendly, first ingredients being hays and then herbs followed by pea flakes and dried carrot, and they're also fortified with vitamin C. I use them like treats for my pigs and rabbits because one of my buns can no longer tolerate anything but hay, but these in very small amounts he tolerates ok. They are pricey though. I agree that many of the things that are actually ok in Walmart are in very small containers and way over priced. I always walk through to see if they stock anything new. I liked the compressed hay bales also by Rosewood Naturals. It helped transition my bunny away from pellets and made sure he was eating enough while he was ill, and both the buns and pigs like them. But they no longer stock them and they were very pricey anyway. I get almost all my supplies from Tractor Supply. Timothy hay, treats, and pellets. I also like to get equine orchard grass pellets for some variety in taste and texture. They don't scarf them down quite as fast as regular pellets, but they do eat them (both buns and pigs).
