• values evidence and logical argument over someone's position and rhetoric - we are anti-hierarchical
• enables interactive, self-driven learning - we prefer alternatives to lectures wherever possible and appropriate
• insists on respect for self, others and other approaches to knowledge generation
• challenges prejudice - we oppose pre-judging and opinions without any basis in evidence
• instils a sense of the student's own agency and commitment to exercise it
• aims to create a more equal world at micro and macro level
