Scar's real name is Taka. In the movie, we will see how he got the scar on his face and how he lost his birthright as king to Mufasa, because in the live action Taka (aka Scar) is the one with royal bloodline and Mufasa will be the adopted one.

From what I have heard...this movie takes place during the timeline of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride and Rafiki is telling the story to Kiara about her grandfather's background story.
Blue Ivy Carter is going to be Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala. That little cub jumping to the lake at end of the trailer is her.

So according to the official synopsis, it’s going to be Rafiki telling Simba’s daughter the story of Mufasa, with Timon and Pumbaa giving commentary.
I think that Timon and pumbaa scene is “their version of the first movie” where they tell the story as if they’re the heroes.
Kind of like The Lion King 1 1/2 that told the story from their point of view.

Looks a hell of a lot better than the 2019 remake of The Lion King, thanks to the upgrade from Jon Favreau to Barry Jenkins allowing for animals to be more expressive and full of emotion, allow for more freedom in the color grading and cinematography, and the choice of having Lin-Manuel Miranda do the music/original songs.
I was lucky to see footage at D23 in 2022 that had the animals in Mufasa show emotion, which I know you were at, Wendy and Dustin.
Also the D23 footage showed that while this is a prequel, it will have scenes in the present day where Rafiki will have Timon and Pumbaa helping him narrate the story of Mufasa.
That shot was Timon and Pumbaa allegedly fighting Scar, even though we know the two were really distracting the hyenas. And them being there with Simba, Nala, and Kiara is for sure them hearing Rafiki tell the story of Mufasa's life before he was king. Edit: This is apparently coming out the same day as Sonic 3. Yikes.

The movie takes place after the Lion king 1 remake, but it is the story of mufasa being told by rafiki, which is why simba and nala and the other characters are in it
Had no idea Barry Jenkins was involved with this - definitely curious to see his take on it. I feel like the plot might be a little Thor/Loki-ish in terms of how they may address the Mufasa - Scar relationship. Wonderful review as always! 💖

Don't be surprised if you seen Timon and Pumbaa during these events because you remember the third prequel.ish movie Lion King 1 1/2 when they was telling the story about the events happen way before Simba and in that the two was pretty young.
I still don't see why a lot of people was complaining about The Lion King and the animals not having expressions and showing emotion when clearly Jungle Book was the same way directed by the same person but got a lot more praise. In my opinion Wendy and Dustin I think the 2019 live action film was awesome.

I think the lion cubs are Kiara and Kovu! And maybe Rafiki is telling them the story about Mufasa and Scar!? .. Have to watch the sequel again, it`s been a long time. Greetings from Germany❤

I liked the 2019 movie. I’m looking forward seeing the prequel. I’m surprised Lin-Manuel Miranda is writing music for this movie. I guess that explains why he didn’t return for Moana 2.
I honestly think that the trailer looks good
I hope Zira will appear in story as the most loyal follower of Scar and the one who wanted to be his queen, but Scar's wanting Sarabi instead of her and the loss of Scar's right to the throne by Mufasa could have turned Zira insane and vengeful that she was banished. She can return in a future hypothetic third film as the main villain to fulfill her revenge after learning of Scar's death and bringing with her Nuka, Vitani and Kovu, the last one being the one that Kiara will fall in love.
I think Campea mentioned that Barry Jenkins mentioned that the movie would copy The Godfather 2 in that it woyld have two stories developing in different timelines. Also, real lions don't inherent leadership, it's far more cruelsome.

I'm looking forward to this, but my concern is that too many people will harshly compare the 2019 remake to this prequel.
We all agree that it had some issues, with the hyper photorealism and lack of expressions."That it's a beat4beat remake".
1. It's not a bad movie at all, it's a remake that did what it was supposed to do, stick to the 94 OG film.
2. People have to realize it's not a cartoon. And real animals can embody human emotions, it's just not communicated the same way. It's all in the body languages and mannerisms. So it's like you to see it from a different perspective.
3. Out of everything we all saw in the Teasers and Trailers of the remake, the Photorealism, and shot 4 shot of the OG 94 film, what more really we really wanted them to add or see??? 80% of the remake covered what needed to cover, too many people set themselves up for disappointments, yet lot of people 88% audience score enjoyed it.
It will take a long time for people to warm up the remake, but with this prequel without judging the remake against it, (we don't have like it) we at least appreciate/respect more of the work Jon Favreau did with what he had at his disposal.
94 OG film, will still reign as a 10/10 masterpiece. Past, Present, and Forevermore

Mads Mikkelsen will probably be the main villain. He's listed as the leader of another herd of lions who wants to seize control of the hunting lands of Mufasa and Taka's herd. Being the heir, Taka will challenge this villain but he will loose and get his scar, but when Mufasa will try his way and convinces everyone in the herd to fight the enemy herd under his command, he will defeat Mad's villain and proved that he has the courage and leadership necessary to be the new Lion King, but in the way he will earn the envy of Taka, now Scar, who lost everything to Mufasa, including his birthright and the respect of the herd, and becomes his shadow enemy through the next years until he will have his revenge on Mufasa through Simba as we already know.
Do I need a sequel/prequel to The Lion King? Not really.
Am I down for story time with John Kani? Absolutely!
And Scar? Did we miss it
Let's hope they don't fudge up the lore too much.

This story was never told so maybe this is an uncover of what happened before the original Lion King and some shocking twist to certain characters past.
