Malcolm X | Academy Museum

The Academy Museum offered an exclusive screening to its members-Spike Lee’s seminal film Malcolm X (USA, 1992), in a rare 70mm print! The screening was followed by a discussion with Spike and the film’s Oscar-winning star, Denzel Washington (Glory, Training Day).
Based on The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Lee’s biographical drama follows the legendary revolutionary figure through key periods in his life up to his assassination in 1965. Washington was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the lead role.

Spike Lee's Malcolm X wasn't a movie. It was a service. I saw Malcolm X in theaters 4 times as a 17 year old. To me this was like a great superhero origin story that made me feel like I had some serious homework to do after learning about this man and his work.

At the 29:40 mark, Spike said the people in the audience when Malcolm was shot in 1963 practiced a week bf what they was gonna do, then he said "get ur hand outta my pocket" the exact words that were said right bf Malcolm was shot. Did anyone else catch that, and if so wth??!!

One Of The Best Movies I've Ever Seen Denzel Became Malcolm X His Best Role By Far I Didn't Really Know Alot About Malcolm Until This Film They Don't Teach About Him Much In History Class And It's A Shame People Need To Know About Him And What He Accomplished In His Too Short Of A Life Thanks To Spike Lee For Making This Film!
