I was always torn at the end of the fishing season whether to start back at the shooting or see out the season on the river before lifting the gun on a Saturday. That took me back to my days beating and shooting ducks and geese on Slains Estate at Collieston and driven pheasant at Carradale on the Kintyre peninsula when I was Bank Manager at Campbeltown. I will be sixty on Friday and those days in Aberdeenshire seem like a lifetime away it was certainly a different life to my days here in the central belt.
Aye John, it was a difficult decision in the past but not so much now that we have no autumn run. It makes the decision easier. I just love getting out with the dogs now and enjoying the craic with the beaters and guns. Your 100% right, time goes by so quickly. I was back near Peterhead in the summer and the 45 years since I left felt like a few weeks. Fantastic memories though.
Why? Its part of our culture to shoot driven game like this. Maybe not to everyones taste but then again thats just cultural differences. Many of the guys in the clip are in fact hunters and enjoy Deer Stalking and I myself enjoy hunting salmon with a rod. I think its more about enjoying the clip and trying to see it from the other side. We're not all the same.
Beautiful countryside with great birds !! Look forward to seeing more !
Enjoyed watching that Ian.Some lovely shots
