  • Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Alamo Colleges District and hear stories of identity, land, and representation from women of the Tāp Pīlam Coahuiltecan Nation. Members of the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (AITSCM) provided a ceremonial blessing, a district land acknowledgment, and a native performance along with a panel discussion.

I’m just learning about my heritage I’m finding out that my family on both sides our coahuiltecan. I’m my families first generation not born in Texas and my family on both sides moved to Oregon. For the longest time I didn’t know what or how i was. My family was aloud to speak their language so i never heard any Spanish tell i was 12 years of age, one of my grandmothers never spoke English i thought it was Spanish but one time she was watching a show on tv and i asked my cousin to ask her what they where saying? She said she didn’t know that it was different from hers.
I’m researching my culture because now I’m finally finding my people. I have always knew in my spirit but was always told i was different but didn’t believe it. I’m still not in Texas but most of my grandparents families are and even 3rd cousins. My cousin said my grandparents had to move back then because of work.
My one grandfather was a hunter and skilled tracker. My husband took him on his last hunt a month before he passed.

I’m currently making a video about a goddess from Coahuiltecan mythology. It should be out in a couple weeks, maybe sooner. You can watch it if you want

Major issue getting a call or email back from this nation.
My family, like many, has heritage via blood to the many tribes of NE Mexico and Southern Texas.
My suggestion is to dig deeper and find the actual tribe your ancestors were a part of before Spanish and/or other European invasion.
Then, join the individual tribes quest to be known or recognized.
    May you find success.
    Semper Fidelis, folks.
