I've been using this for 2 years after watching this video. I ran through a giant $25 spool of Home Depot stuff. It was about half the length of this spool. I was re-spooling it every two weeks. I use my trimmer 30 times a year. I still haven't replaced the first spool of this stuff that I put on my trimmer. I typically have to extend the string one to two times per lawn cut. Worth every penny!

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

I researched plenty and took the advice of George here, and have just tried out this black line on all my normal front and back trimming..
    In a word - AMAZING !!!!
The shipment was very fast and the spool arrived very well packed and undamaged..
On start up, first thing I noticed - no trimmer line noise at all... It's gone..
All you hear is the air moving, a much lower, smoother to the ears sound..
This tells me the line is moving very smoothly through the air - love this..
I only needed much less than half throttle; my echo was just purring along, and this line cut very efficiently, left sharp edges, and smoothly across all kinds of things..
And since I needed way less rpm to do the same thing, I did an entire big back yard and a little smaller front yard, lots of grass to edge, and I never even had to hit the spool on the ground to advance more line...
Thanks George ! All the decades of busting myself and machines up with lines that were so unbalanced are gone !!!
This line also cuts very gently and precisely across those "high" areas of grass that are still there after mowing, you know what I mean?
Very smooth cutting, no tearing of the grass blades, very easy to manage this also..
I don't have a shield on my echo, so I can very easily see what is happening when I flip it over to just shave off that high corner next to the sidewalk , which gets more water, and is always a little higher..
So glad to be done with all those other types of lines !!! I just don't see the need for them ever again...

I have been using the 105. on a craftsman 1 piece non-winding head for years. Outstanding stuff, nothing better. Works great in Louisiana. I have tried many others, they just don't last like this brand of line. Sears sells this same type in smaller quantities. Try it once, you may never go back to your old stuff.

A great product!!! I bought the Copperhead Vortex Professional line and tried it for the first time today. I cut 10-12” high thick grass in it a 150’ long irrigation ditch then trimmed around my house until the machine ran out of gas.. I never once had to tap the hub to make more line come out. The same 5" long pieces of line sticking out of the hub were there when I finished. Never had that happen before.

Following your recommendation I ordered a spool of 'this line and love it. I have used echo and Stihl last few years and this is far better. Biggest difference I am noticing is we are using about half the amount of line we used to use. It just seems to hold up better I think it's because it's a bit more flexible and doesn't seem to snap so easily. Thanks!

This stuff would cut concrete, saw wooden fences even go through cypress suckers and bamboo. But beware when the last 2 inches shot out of the head, it would go through jeans and bury itself an inch into your leg. Boy those were the good old days. That stuff IS good, like he says, I've used it for years. But I just bought a 58V AEG rechargeable electric line trimmer and when I tried a new line in it, my current favourite one, the performance just went through the roof. It was like the machine was suddenly supercharged. It blasts through metre high setaria and now I can clean up my 350 metre driveway with it - somewhere I haven't been able to get to before now because the banks are way to steep to get my Toro Z-Master on.
The line I now use is a 3mm nylon (I guess) green one with a triangular profile. The shape makes it slice like a blade and the difference is astounding. The trimmer has a bump feed so I just load it up and go for it, no interruptions.
I've just recharged the battery so I'm going out again to get back into it.
    Hope this is helpful.
BTW those AEG rechargeables are AWESOME - do yourself a favour and try one.

G Packard for lawn is very good.
But i clean woods, mostly. even using the .130 it wears out fairlly fast.
comes out whit one touch in the ground, leaves a perfect cut ,never binds(even at full trothle all the time)and yes cuts good half trothle.
A small bobine costed 20 euros and was gone in 36 hours.
I love it , but if it would last longer it would be excelent.
      any tips are wellcome.

The reason it stays flat is the twist type line. I drove trucks hauling flat bed trailers and found that if you twisted the tarp straps they would cut though the air at highway speeds much better than a strap that was tied down without twisting it. The twisted straps would not make near as much noise or flex up and down as an untwisted strap would. I believe this works on the same principle.

I have a very large yard. I watched your video and everything you have said is completely true. Unlike other brand lines that wobble up and down this line spins in an absolutely flat rotational disk making walk edging a real joy. Also, because of that, routine trimming goes better because you can maintain a level cut. Finally, because I have a Echo trimmer, I have been using Echo line, which is much better than generic, but Vortex is SO much better and goes SO much further. I get more that double the life out of this line per job. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you SO much for this video!

It won't last forever and if you do it day in and day out like I do you will still use a lot of it but it is better then all the others.

I was very surprised at that line`s ability to cut stuff. You are correct, that you can go around half the throttle you are used to. This line actually makes your trimmer more powerful. It makes mincemeat out of tall weeds, too.

  • @miked90123
    @miked90123 7 ปีที่แล้ว

That was my first choice, and the worst! I too, have been doing this for many years, I live in Sandy soil. I only have to cut 4 pieces, one to start and 3x back up! When I'm done, I usually have two still in pocket! The best trim line is 100% round or as close to it as you can! The spiral shit comes apart asap! Tried many brands, same results. Usually use Shakespeare .095 or husqvarna .095 line! Never a problem and lasts longer than I want to trim! I do a lot of residential property that has sand soil, concrete and bricks to trim around.

Got myself a new trimmer - don't know what brand the string was that came with it, but it was reddish-orange .095 string that was two pieces in one, like this.
I was used to a low powered trimmer that was 20 years old - it ran cheap .080 line - so imagine my surprise when I tested this out on a dense overgrown grass/brush/weed tangle about 3 feet high. I attacked it at 3/4 throttle.
The mess exploded in my face - leaves, stems and grass fragments all over me. it was belching out clippings like a lawnmower.
Easily the best stuff in the world.

Ive worked on small engines for more than 25 years and mowed yards for years. The best trimmer line ive ever seen or used is Oregon. Clear, square with a monafilament wire in the center. I can fill the spool on my weed eater and do 7 or 8 yards and cut thick weeds

I've used all kinds of line on my Craftsman push weed eater..similar to the DR Trimmer..has 2 wheels on the back and a roller ball on the front. Uses (2) .155 in (3.9 mm) strings 18 inches long. When installed on the rotary ball there are metal tabs which turns 1 18" string into 2 9" strings X 2 giving me 18" of cutting width. The best string I've come across is called Weed Warrior Pulverizer Platinum...also made in the ol' USA. It is shaped like a triangle. Those sharp edges make quick work cutting thru ragweed up to 2" thick stalks and other thick grass. Unfortunately it's not prejudice about what it cuts...hidden weed covered water hoses, etc. Great string.

  • @Chopperwidgetman
    @Chopperwidgetman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I think you will find that the stability of the line rotating in a flat disc is down to the helical form of the cord. Very similar to the helical fins in tall thin chimneys fitted to prevent lateral oscillations in high winds. In the case of the strimmer the helical form stabilises to path of the cord as it goes round.

This line seems to break just as easy as the stock Echo line, but this stuff cuts like a hot knife through butter.
With the stock orange line, my Echo 225 would bog down in thick grass. With this line, it cuts right through. It slings grass everywhere as it gobbles it up.
    WAY bitchin' line!

G Packard I ordered both the .080 and .095. My trimmer takes .065, so I wanted a back up in case the .095 did not work.
I tried the .080 first. It did fine, though it did break up a bit, I was edging around cement and kept hitting it. However, I have to say that is the cleanest line that I have ever seen with my edger! And, it did not break up as much as the stuff you get at the big box stores. I’ll try the .095 next and see how that works out, and practice more edging around cement. It’s a new edger, I’m still getting used to it. I agree that it is one sharp, clean cut!

I'm not a professional, just a guy with a few acres and that like his tools to work well.
Bought a new trimmer this spring - I'm using Husqvarna titanium line on a Husky 128 trimmer and it seems to hold up quite well. I'm not easy on it and I border swamp on one side and railroad on the other (ballast stone destroys everything, from mower blades to trimmer line, chainsaw chains, brush blades....) Not to mention the briars and sumac everywhere, I swear sumac grows 6" a day...
I've tries a lot of gimmick line and it's all junk. The next best I've ever used was a roll I found at a garage sale - a couple thousand feet loose in a box, it was natural (translucent white) and fairly heavy simple straight line. I think it said Black and Decker on the box somewhere (which really surprises me?)
The Husky Titanium LOOKS a lot like the Rotary. Not sure if that shape is responsible for the level swing, but I rarely have to go over 1/2 to get a decent cut on grass. Seems quieter than other line too, less 'whistle'.
A spool is about 4 meters I think and I'd guess I get about 3 tanks of gas (about 14oz per tank) per spool depending on what I'm cutting and how hard I'm running. Sumac, blackberry and thistle sure cut the line life and up the fuel consumption (Premium Gas & Redline racing oil here).
I'm ordering in some Rotary, if I can get it in less than the commercial spool, that would last me well past my years...

    Thanks for the tip George.
    I'll be watchin.

Thanks for addressing the 'flatness' issue. This is exactly the review I was looking for.

As possible, I first use a 12" Husqy 3-knife blade. Takes very little throttle opening even on an antique 21 cc Echo straight-shaft. Then for near masonry & stuff I put on fixed-line head with a couple chunks of line I'm trying to use up. That's going slowly- not a problem to me. As an alternative, 11" 4-knife Husqy blade works great. Either way, woody stems are in jeopardy. Blades also don't cover me with debris, a BIG PLUS.

I went from round line, to different types of square and star shaped lines. My favorite I found (mostly from the brand) was ugly line, same people that making fishing stuff. It’s square or star shaped, can’t remember. It lasted pretty long and seemed to cut well. Then I bought some of that twisted “quiet” line. Which I thought was bs but I wanted to try it. I always thought the engine was louder than the string so who cares if it’s quiet or not... anyway, I didn’t notice a huge difference, yeah the noise from the head was quieter but the engine was loud as always, I went through about 12ft of this stuff not liking it that much. Then when I switched back to the ugly line mid way through a job , I noticed a huge difference. Both are .95, the ugly line spun soooo much slower. It had so much wind resistance that my trimmer had a hard time getting to full speed. The quiet line was way better, your string can be longer, spins way faster without as much effort, and cuts nicer. It’s also quiet if you care about that. I bought it thinking it’s a stupid gimmick, but it really changed my mind.

My friend let me try this and you're right, it does last longer but I felt it didn't cut as good as my other string. I also noticed that my trimmer didn't run as smooth with it, it would vibrate. I wish they made this kind in a lighter gauge. I will say, I do have to change my other string out more often but the cut I get makes it worth it.

G Packard Ive tried to run my weed eater less thanfull throttle but its not practicle battling the weight . Are you aware of any trimmer that has a fixed setting for reduced throttle?

Husquvarna pro series is demonstrably the best in independent testing. The sharp edges of stuff like this may seem better but the rounded string line with a wire interior is best.

Thanks for the free advice, George! Here in Ireland the grass is soft but some of it is really hard and the trimmer head gets tangled up. I will give it a try
