They also made the Permafrost Crystal lightsaber, which does Cold damage with a FREEZING blade rather than a burning one as a counterpart to the Lava Crystal. It was never a real focus in any novels or comics or anything like that. This is more of a videogame-ism tbh Just new mcguffins to collect for the players.

I think the prop is a big part of it. The new prop they use for filming lights up so they don't have to add the shading in post, but it's cumbersome and expensive so you have Rosario Dawson and Ray Stevenson being super slow so as not to break the expensive prop, or maybe it's just that much more unwieldy. Compare that to Episode 1 where they had to slow down Ewan McGregor and Ray Park because they were fighting so fast and it's like "who really cares if the lighting is realistic if the fights all suck now?"

Not only are they feared by opponents, but these sabers are also feared by their own wielders because it is literally dripping, damn lava that can splatter anywhere, including on its owner.😂
That’s the one I used to use during my time as a mandalorian. I had the dark saber and the lava saber. I used to dial wield them. I killed the last mandolorian that had the dark saber and took it and I forged my lava saber. I miss those days they were a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
