I really enjoyed your video it is exactly how I feel I'm very impressed with Bonnie Wright for having the courage to say this publicly. Starting with the order of Phoenix Ginny is a very important character helping Harry realize is not being possessed and telling Harry to stop posting everyone away and in the six book she basically becomes the fourth member of the Golden trio when she's dating Harry. I believe Bonnie Wright is a credible actor but if you are not given good material what are they supposed to do.
Bonnie would have been so great if she was given the opportunity to play the real Ginny. Personally, I still feel robbed of one of the best scenes in the entire series: "Harry looked around; there was Ginny running toward him; she had a hard, blazing look in her face as she threw her arms around him. And without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her. "After several long moments - or it might have been half an hour - or possibly several sunlit days - they broke apart. The room had gone very quiet. Then several people wolf-whistled and there was an outbreak of nervous giggling. Harry looked over the top of Ginny's head to see Dean Thomas holding a shattered glass in his hand, and Romilda Vane looking as though she might throw something. Hermione was beaming, but Harry's eyes sought Ron. At last he found him, still clutching the Cup and wearing an expression appropriate to having been clubbed over the head. For a fraction of a second they looked at each other, then Ron gave a tiny jerk of the head that Harry understood to mean, Well-if you must." And the fact that Ginny later in the book (during Dumbledore’s funeral) confessed that she never gave up on him: " I never really gave up on you," she said. "Not really. I always hoped.... Hermione told me to get on with life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember? And she thought you might take a bit more notice if I was a bit more - myself." "Smart girl, that Hermione," said Harry, trying to smile. "I just wish I'd asked you sooner. We could've had ages...months...years maybe... "But you've been too busy saving the wizarding world," said Ginny, half laughing. "Well...I can't say I'm surprised. I knew this would happen in the end. I knew you wouldn't be happy unless you were hunting Voldemort. Maybe that's why I like you so much." Such great moments! Can’t wait to get to these parts when I reread the books!
Yeah that's my take on the movies vs books. Books you can take time and let the charcters grow. In the movies only the trio mattered. Everyone else was a npc. Speaking of GoF, I remember walking out and thinking the start seemed rushed to me.
Bonnie gave a solid performance but the executives failed Ginny as a character. There was literally no solid indication that Harry and Ginny had any romance/chemistry in the movies until Hermione said to Harry in HBP “I see the way you look at her. I know- you’re my best friend.” And that line (which should be like a “FINALLY!” moment) just feels straight out of left field. IMO I think the executives focused way too hard on Harry’s romance with Cho in the OOTP (which they never really closed that chapter in the movies too) and I think that lack of stance with Cho and Harry is also why Ginny seemed a bit out of left field. And as much as I love the Potter movies, hopefully the executives can focus on character development and relationships over just plot line this time around with the TV series because that’s what really made the HP series magic.
Anyone who's read the books knows that the ruined the Ron's & Ginny's characters. The actors were amazing & did their role wonderfully with the material they were given
As I said once before, practically all the Weasley kids were done dirty in the films. Bill only appeared in Deathly Hallows, Charlie was cut out of the films entirely, Percy never appeared after Order of the Phoenix, Fred's death and George's reaction happened off-screen, Ron had his best moments given to Hermione (not all, but most), and Ginny's character was ruined. They didn't show Harry getting jealous when Dean was mentioned but they showed Ginny getting jealous when Cho was mentioned. I feel like the screenwriters of the films were haters of the Weasleys. Or wanted other characters to shine brighter because of personal biases. When I look at Ginny in the Order of the Phoenix film, Bonnie's portrayal in certain scenes gave me vibes of a girl that younger girls not only look up to as a role model, but also one that some of them develop a crush for. And who knows, there were probably some third-year girls in OOTP (both the book and the film) who may have asked her out or admitted their crush for her, to which she probably responded with something along the lines of "I appreciate your feelings, but I am currently seeing someone" or "I'm sorry, but I can't reciprocate your feelings". Maybe something the new TV series can look into as a stand-alone episode or a side plot in an episode.
I saw the movies before reading the books. I was shocked when Ginny wound up with Harry. It just came out of nowhere. One day Harry realizes he finds Ginny attractive then next thing you know they end up married in the future. I only knew Ginny found Harry attractive when she was as nervious as she was when she woke up to find Harry was staying there.
Same. I remember movie watchers being confused and not understand why Hermione and Harry didn't end up together because they shared so much screen time and the actors seem to have good chemistry. Poor Ginny was never around much to interact with. I also remember an interview Rolling had with the main screen writer who was obsessed with Hermione. By the way things sounded others had much more control on the script then Rolling did. That and there is always studio interference just in varying degrees. I remember seeing an interview a few years back of Bonnie with the Phelps twins I think and I thought she seemed a better Ginny just being herself than the movie portrayed.
age and poorly written script have definitely played the biggest role and as you say they seem like two different people. however, I don't think it worked until there was a special chemistry between her and daniel, which I can't completely explain away by her having a bad script. I still like the movie and there is nothing wrong with bonnie
The order of the phoenix did a decent job portraying her character (although it still didn’t live up to her true character) but the ones after were terrible. She was one of my favorite characters and they did her mad dirty :(
No one blames her, she was a child, teenager and young adult while filming. We couldn't really expect for her to say something. As for what the reason is... I think they left the development of her as a character as she is in a 2nd book. In movies she never outgrew her shy, quiet phase. As for the chemistry with Daniel, I would say they have the same chemistry as their book counterparts which is non existant
I think Bonnie did a great job with what they gave her, absolutely NOT HER FAULT! I would have loved to have seen her play the bad-ass Ginny as she was written in the books. The problem is there was soooo much in the books they just couldn't fit it all, IMHO Movie 3 was little more than a highlight- points telling of the GOF book.
If they choose the right cast for Jenny Weasley I am sure that we could discover her character more and we could know everything about her and what is she like and what makes her special about her character I'm sure there's things that we miss about Jenny Weasley I think it's because they were struggling behind the scene and there was too much frustration how to portray Jenny's character in the big screen it's true that Jenny Weasley deserves more than being a love interest because she was just a love interest in the entire movie so I'm sure we could know more about her character not only to be a love interest for Harry Potter or love interest for Dean Thomas we all need to know more about what makes Jenny Weasley particular as a witch and also what makes her a person and we need to know more about her personality about herself
"I wouldn't be surprised if half of the execs hadn't even read the books themselves." How could such a thing even be allowed? As a writer of moderate (and ever growing) success, if anyone wants to adapt my books into movies in the future, I will have a clause in the contract that no one unfamiliar with my work may have any influence over the production. I highly recommend any and all authors to do the same. We've all had enough of bad adaptations on screen. Now, if they want to change things because of pacing, time constraint, limited effects or simply because they do what they think is best for a visual medium, that's fine. That's why it's called an adaptation and not a direct visual representation. But I DEMAND that they at least read the books before making any such changes.
It is really upsetting when big shot screenwriters/playwrights don't respect how the events of a pre-existing story is supposed to go. Might have started with movie executives; but (Worst Of All) continued with the "The Cursed Child" playwrights.
Her acting Career is a big proof that she was just a bd actress and the fact that she had a very bad script added to it well they where casted young so they would never know so yeah well i hope they cast a better actress in the coming tv series and give that kid a bit more importance
12 YEARS LATER, I AM STILL SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS!! CHO CHANG MADE MORE SENSE. I THINK J.K ROWLING JUST WANTED HARRY TO MARRY INTO THE WEASLEY FAMILY SO THAT HE CAN TRULY BECOME FAMILY.
Is understandable that Bonnie complains about this. Book Ginnie is a strong, self empowered girl who came back from being an insecure little girl to be a quidditch badass queen, confidence attractive young girl and Griffindor level of braverry. But movie Ginnie was simply diminished so Hermione was the only girl boss in the school. Because nobody could be as powerful as Hermione in the screenwriter's judgement. Ginnie actually wasn't given any character arc in the movies. She stood being the shy, insecure girl she was in the beginning. Her character growth wasn't depicted faithfully, and it is Kloves' and Goldenberg 's fault. And yes, jkr stood there and watch Ginnie being ruined, so she's at fault too. Let's hope she allows Ginnie to be book accurate this time for the series.
They wanted to focus more so on Harry than any other and make it from his perspective. She might compete with Harry's likelight so they chopped her part up.
2 hrs isn’t enough to develop especially supporting characters and provide an in-depth story line dedicated to them. I just hope that the Harry Potter series does a better job in the character development of actors in supporting roles.
Book Ginny was perfect for Harry. She understood him but didn't put with any crap from him either. Like the scene in OotP where she gave him grief for not talking to her about pissibly being possessed by Voldemort. As fir the end? What do you expect? It's Seattle.
The milked the Deathly Hallows pretty much and never first intended making 2, else they'd split the Goblet of fire as well. More movies = more revenue.
I feel so bad for Bonnie. I mean they made movie Ginny crappy. Bonnie is such a great actor. But what they did to her is just bad. The book Ginny was amazing. Her scenes with Harry are just bad. I mean they might have been my favorite couple seeing as I saw Harry with Hermione better but their parts in the movie were really bad. I mean anyone who never read the books could never understand how they could be together. There was no chemistry. They gave her a bad script. The people who did this either didn't read the books or didn't care. Ginny was a wonderful character in the book. She was amazing. She was popular. She was a firecracker. You don't see that in the movies and not because of Bonnie. It was the exects who were shitty. Those giving her crap about the crappy way they told her to act, you are worse than crap. Bonnie is wonderful. She is an excellent actor and a sweetheart. I hope she sees that she herself is not hated but the amount they gave her in the script was. It is the people who did the script writing that deserves to get all the bull not Bonnie
I was thinking about it these days after watching some of the movies. Ginny is so boring and had zero chemistry with Harry lol they ruined that character so bad
It wasn’t the script’s fault. It was her bland, expressionless acting. A big part of acting is using facial expressions to convey emotion. She doesn’t know how to do this. It was like she was just reading her lines
I don't think Bonnie was the right actress for teenage/adult Ginny. She was a cute little kid but its like she forgot how to act when she hit puberty. Kinda wish they would have recast her after the first 2 movies. I mean, they recast Dumbledore and made Goyle a black kid, but they kept the same girl as Ginny? Why?! Sorry, but Bonnie didn't grow into the spunky, sporty, beautiful teenage Ginny from the books. She grew into a self conscious, gangly , awkward tall girl, who wasn't pretty the way book Ginny was. Sorry if that's mean. I know she is Brittish so its not really her fault. But on screen, her character comes off as shy, stiff, and confused half the time...whispering all of her lines. No ounce of physical chemistry or attraction between her and Daniel. (Obviously, Daniel was way too short for her and kind of weird looking too, so again, not all Bonnie's fault) I know some of it was bad writing and direction, but some of it was *ahem* her acting. Sorry. There's probably a reason the writers cut out her story lines. The actress couldn't pull them off, and she wasn't likable as a character in the movie. Ginny was supposed to be beautiful, popular, easy going and cool. Someone the audience liked and rooted for Harry to get with. Movie Ginny was SUCH a disappointment :( Every time they had awkward "romantic scenes" together it was hard to watch. Almost like the acters had never met each other and then were forced to do scenes together without being introduced first. Plus, she was so much TALLER than Harry and that just irked me. Made them look unnatural as a couple and highlighted how short Daniel was. Okay so I KNOW it wasn't Daniel's fault he ended up being 5'5", but like, isn't there some percentile chart they could have used on the10 year old kids to get an idea of how tall they are gonna grow? Or like, pull a Tom Cruise move and make him stand on a box or platform shoes, camera angle tricks...?
I'm not a fan of Ginny and Harry together but outside of that I don't like how she was used in the movies. After book 2 she was bland and uninteresting. In the third you could have taken her out and nothing would have been lost because her presence was so small to the point where she was an extra. She had 1 line of dialogue as far as I cant remember.
I understood that JK Rowling herself she was not happy how the characters were portrayed in the movies in the Harry Potter movies it absolutely makes why she didn't say anything about the Jenny character when Bonnie was playing Jenny I could say she is probably the Harry Potter love interest or the Dean Thomas love interest JK Rowling's she couldn't do anything about it she doesn't even know how to write a storyline for a movie she's an author she writes novels she does not write movies so look what happened to Fantastic Beasts it failed because people did not like it when she writes movies because she's not in a movie director she is a poet so she writes novels so JK Rowling's she couldn't do anything about it but I'm sure she understands Bonnie her struggle playing Jenny This is why she killed Snape out of the movie and Dobby and professor I think the characters did not correspond in her in her interest when it's about her novels how they are represented I believe the writers and the directors the producers they were doing it in a different way so this is why this is why Jenny character fail but Bonnie she had no control all over it that was the directors and the writers and the producers
The tying the shoe lace scene. That is very "BDSM service submissive" like. I think someone involved in that writing/direction, did it.on purpose like a prank. There has been zero mention if this view, only that the scene is bad. But why? Why was it there? What does it do? Its not in the books. How was it sold to the powers that be? And how was it conveyed to get it done that way. Prank by a BDSM Dom or sub, but prank nonetheless.
To me the Ginny character was just too young for Harry. It seemed a little creepy. It was different in the books but still she was too young for Harry.

" I never really gave up on you," she said. "Not really. I always hoped....
Hermione told me to get on with life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember? And she thought you might take a bit more notice if I was a bit more - myself."
"Smart girl, that Hermione," said Harry, trying to smile.
Maybe that's why I like you so much."
Such great moments!
The actors were amazing & did their role wonderfully with the material they were given
Pray they get her right in the reboot.
l think Bonnie did a great job, especially within the constraints of the system.
I am sorry, Ms. Wright, I should have not judged you.
I heard half the question only about body of lion & confidently said Sphinx 😱🤐
"Inside of you" that sounds so explicit lmao
I think the reason they made Hallows 2 movies was being the climax they wanted to include as much as they could
For more Bonnie wright, she is in an episode of Amazons fantastic friends with James and Oliver Phelps. She is really cool
She has her own TH-cam channel too:)
I can totally understand why she's upset. Because in the books she was a firecracker!
Book Ginny: a very cool girl
Movie Ginny: no personality
Bonnie's got a point, even though she portrayed Ginny very well
age and poorly written script have definitely played the biggest role and as you say they seem like two different people. however, I don't think it worked until there was a special chemistry between her and daniel, which I can't completely explain away by her having a bad script.
I still like the movie and there is nothing wrong with bonnie
Imagine if the movies were as long as she wanted
This video gave me a new perspective on her role. But I still think the scenes that she had were weak in terms of emotional portrayal
If they choose the right cast for Jenny Weasley I am sure that we could discover her character more and we could know everything about her and what is she like and what makes her special about her character
I'm sure there's things that we miss about Jenny Weasley I think it's because they were struggling behind the scene and there was too much frustration how to portray Jenny's character in the big screen it's true that Jenny Weasley deserves more than being a love interest because she was just a love interest in the entire movie so I'm sure we could know more about her character not only to be a love interest for Harry Potter or love interest for Dean Thomas we all need to know more about what makes Jenny Weasley particular as a witch and also what makes her a person and we need to know more about her personality about herself
"I wouldn't be surprised if half of the execs hadn't even read the books themselves."
How could such a thing even be allowed? As a writer of moderate (and ever growing) success, if anyone wants to adapt my books into movies in the future, I will have a clause in the contract that no one unfamiliar with my work may have any influence over the production. I highly recommend any and all authors to do the same. We've all had enough of bad adaptations on screen.
Now, if they want to change things because of pacing, time constraint, limited effects or simply because they do what they think is best for a visual medium, that's fine. That's why it's called an adaptation and not a direct visual representation. But I DEMAND that they at least read the books before making any such changes.
The Director of the Goblet of Fire Mike Newell never read the book
@@HarryPotterFolklore I know, and it really shows. But then why was he ever allowed to direct the movie?
It is really upsetting when big shot screenwriters/playwrights don't respect how the events of a pre-existing story is supposed to go. Might have started with movie executives; but (Worst Of All) continued with the "The Cursed Child" playwrights.
I think pretty much all of the Weasley children were done dirty in the films, but especially Ginny!
the closes book ginny came in the movie was when the blowed up the training dummy/ destroyed all the shelves with one spell each
They did movie ginny dirty
The problem with breaking those 3 books into 2 movies is that the actors would have been 3 years older when the last movie came out.
Her acting Career is a big proof that she was just a bd actress and the fact that she had a very bad script added to it well they where casted young so they would never know so yeah well i hope they cast a better actress in the coming tv series and give that kid a bit more importance
I don’t think the character in the movie was bad just not as good as in the book also, Bonnie was the best part of the character
Blame Kloves. He hated the Weasleys. Ron especially.
The TV reboot needs to develop Ginny better.
I don't blame her.
I'm sorry, but I dont care how much was cut. I still saw chemistry between Ginny and Harry. Bonnie and Daniel wonderful chemistry.
I Don't blame her. I wonder if she had more to do in deleted scenes?
We also didn't get to see her slew people who said hi to her :(
Bonnie did a good job, she was cheated by the writers and producers. J K should have put up a fight for the character.
The milked the Deathly Hallows pretty much and never first intended making 2, else they'd split the Goblet of fire as well. More movies = more revenue.
I think Bonnie could have 100% pulled off book Ginny.
I agree. The films did not do justice to the character.
Arwen from The Lord of The Rings was done much better in the films that Ginny.
(Obviously, Daniel was way too short for her and kind of weird looking too, so again, not all Bonnie's fault)
I know some of it was bad writing and direction, but some of it was *ahem* her acting.
Love love love Harry Potter. Movies and books. But Bonnie is not Jenny. Jenny is fictional. Bonnie just an actor. Love her anyway.
Who is Jenny? I think you meant Ginny
I'm not a fan of Ginny and Harry together but outside of that I don't like how she was used in the movies. After book 2 she was bland and uninteresting. In the third you could have taken her out and nothing would have been lost because her presence was so small to the point where she was an extra. She had 1 line of dialogue as far as I cant remember.
poor bonnie :( i wanted to see more ginny, but the scenes and lines were strange
Bonnie was perfect as Ginny, i.e. if we purely go by looks. However she was severely lacking the Fiesty nature and the Spunk of Ginny's personality.
I understood that JK Rowling herself she was not happy how the characters were portrayed in the movies in the Harry Potter movies it absolutely makes why she didn't say anything about the Jenny character when Bonnie was playing Jenny I could say she is probably the Harry Potter love interest or the Dean Thomas love interest JK Rowling's she couldn't do anything about it she doesn't even know how to write a storyline for a movie she's an author she writes novels she does not write movies so look what happened to Fantastic Beasts it failed because people did not like it when she writes movies because she's not in a movie director she is a poet so she writes novels so JK Rowling's she couldn't do anything about it but I'm sure she understands Bonnie her struggle playing Jenny
This is why she killed Snape out of the movie and Dobby and professor I think the characters did not correspond in her in her interest when it's about her novels how they are represented I believe the writers and the directors the producers they were doing it in a different way so this is why this is why Jenny character fail but Bonnie she had no control all over it that was the directors and the writers and the producers
My personal preferred pairings between the golden and silver trios are the following:
Harry/Hermione
Neville/Ginny
Ron/Luna
Yeah, no.
@@sup3414 Yeah, just my own opinions.
The film writers and producers gave to much focused on Hermione Granger.
