I honestly think that every strike has a reason, but this one particularly I feel is a good thing. I say that because we all should address that AI is now an essential tool t use to some extent. I believe this would help the video game industry even more than ever!
I’m sure a lot of studios can’t get away with using AI unless they want endless lawsuits to follow them. You can’t steal people’s voice or appearance without their consent.
Yes, they can. The reason none of the big studios are doing anything is because they're doing their best to figure out a way to tweak sht enough to rob every talent that has ever signed with them. As long as the artificial product can't be traced back to a source, they're in the clear. In the next few years, we'll be seeing the results of their gamble. Everything is changing at lightning speed, and outside of being someone like Scarlet Johansen, we're all collectively fked. Hey Makayla! absolutely love your videos! big fan! Thanks for making yet another banger to help keep people informed about what's happening! I've done work in video games as a storyboard artist and heard it described as bigger than all movies and sports COMBINED as far as revenue. Video games have gone way too unregulated for way too long and now with AI, this is the right time to put your foot down! I keep up on the AI tech and it absolutely can and will be used to eliminate actor work without paying them - by using their own faces, movements and voices against them. Those of us in movies and tv - live action narrative - we are threatened by it, however it will be able to pass in video games long before it will be able to pass in our work. Good on video game workers and actors for catching this at the gates! The tech can do a lot of truly impressive things and it's really easy to see how desirable it is... like NPC's that can say ANYTHING. However there's gotta be an ethical way to go about it. A game that can use an actor's voice to create infinite NPC dialogue and thus move many many units in sales should compensate the voice actor accordingly. There's also an issue where you can get one performer to effectively play all characters in a project. Even more than it used to be. This has to be addressed. I do want to address something that may be a fuzzy part of your industry knowledge. Among the artists that work in entertainment - illustrators, set designers, costume designers, even many vfx and previs artists... we do NOT think AI is great like you say in your video. There is a difference between AI TOOLS and GENERATIVE AI, which produces the actual work we are supposed to be paid to do - by using OUR OWN WORK against us - just like ACTORS get their own faces and voices used against them! I use this analogy - in Photoshop, I can use an AI Removal TOOL to remove a pimple on the photo of a person's face. However, GENERATIVE AI, or "GenAI", would be used to MAKE the ENTIRE PHOTOGRAPH, replacing the photographer as well as the person that was photographed. Artists don't like GenAI and neither do actors. So when editors talk about it saving time or helping to clean up audio, that's one thing, but when it's being used to steal artwork like it's used to steal actors' faces and voices, that's quite a different thing. Anyway, I'm an actor, script supervisor and storyboard artist over at Local 800. You're always welcome to connect!
Read this whole thing, super insightful! Thanks for sharing your experience and what you’ve heard as an industry professional. Definitely agree that AI can be a good “tool” - but it shouldn’t be the full creative engine. Thanks for watching!
As someone who WANTS to be an actor & make acting my main job (btw I posted 4 vids recording myself re-playing scenes from movies & games) I'm just surprised that SAG-AFTRA has been on strikes 2 YEARS IN A ROW, and both on 2 forms of entertainment (& art) that I love more than anything Maybe this one's also gonna end on my birthday like the last one... maybe Also... Mapping. Awesome video! I think if you use someone's image and voice they should be getting paid fairly. I agree with the Sagaftra voice actors point of view. Acting is definitely a job that's misunderstood and being an artist. Robert Downey Jr. said the Oppenheimer set didn't have chairs now that's some hard-core acting. I've had to stand drawing at an easel it's difficult work.
Makayla watchers gotta learn how stuff happens and why it happens anytime so ur doing awesome job explaining it all in such a short time and good mapping out all the details 😁
I perform comedy at open mic in my city and dream of going to L.A. or New York someday in the future, but with the pandemic and then two strikes, the future of the entertainment industry in America is looking bleak. 😭Guess I'll have to stick to Canada.
Mapping 🗺️ Yea hearing the behind the scenes of how Voice actors & mocap worked always sounds exciting to me (va’s such as Tara strong & Claudia doumit aka Neuman in the boys love them both 😆 ) I truly hope they get better wages and better control on ai although I do think studios have a point when fixing minor occurrences such as audio messes up but not control to just use them for entirely different projects without giving them pay.
I think your video was pretty clear and to the point. As a SAG/AFTRA Member myself I don't know to much about AI but I'm really doing my homework on this issue. Great video.
Can’t believe this is happening again. I hope that all actors of the film and television industry get what they deserve in Hollywood already. it’s been long enough :(
Mapping. Thank you for this! I just went pro as an actor this year, and it is a real job for sure. You’re running a business, from the beginning. You can’t just stay left brained, or right brained: you have to be both. How ever the union is doing affects the non-union side of the business too. I feel more equipped to not leave money on the table that could keep bills paid, my daughter fed, and the lights on when theres no new auditions coming in.
Meh. There are so many movies/TV shows/video games that we don't need anything new. Especially if you count worldwide media. I, for one, love Chinese fantasy dramas. Custodians are way more useful than actors.
Mapping. I think that the strike is good like you said, but I also think that we need to treat each other with kindness, and also set respectful boundaries on both sides ❤. As you mentioned I think actors rights should be protected and video game companies could still use AI for other things.

I'm sick of these strikes, I basically cant get a job in Australia because all productions have been put on hold. Artists in post production are here being let go. Selfish Hollywood strikes again :(
HELPPP I love homelander too his actor is insanely talented! And this very informative, love your content as an actor myself and following ur personal journey as well. Would you ever like to act in a video game? I think it would be dope
What are u talking about? The union threw the voice actors under the bus in the last strike. If the union did their job, this strike wouldn't be happening! AMPTP isn't innocent but the union really messed up in the first strike by not actually having lawyers negotiate for them in the beginning, also THE UNION SIGNED the contract letting people sell their voices to an ai company!
Normally i feel workers plight but my hot take is Hollywood writers don't deserve pay rises I feel horrible saying it but using modern starwars as a example should the writers of that hot mess really be given more money.
Actually, it shows that an industry like Entertainment, which is completely dependent upon extra money in the pockets of the average person and not a necessity for societal progression or maintenance, should never be allowed to have unions for any job that doesn't put a significant physical risk on the person. Each person should still read and understand their individual contracts and fight for their worth, but if you're like Brie Larson, spitting in the face of the fans and have done nothing profitable since her time prior to being Capt Marvel, you shouldn't be protected and secured for both finances and future jobs. YOU made the choice to go into entertainment. YOU chose to be a terrible person. YOU chose the horrible roles. Especially when we have over 10 million actively open jobs in this country, no protections should be made for anyone who willingly chooses the lifestyle of entertainer, as YOU need to keep yourself relevant, not the industry.
When people have to program and develop for a hundred hours to produce a 30 second clip and all the actor had to do is speak a couple times I think the developers deserve more.
Since you don't know how much the video game industry makes, here's an article Forbes made on November 17, 2023: "In 2022, the global gaming industry generated an estimated $184.4 billion. In 2022, the global recorded music industry generated $26.2 billion. In 2022, the global movie industry generated $26 billion in box office revenue". So the video game industry makes nearly 4 times more than the film and music industry combined. Oh and as far as I know, it's also still increasing when film and music is stagnant.
Mapping. I watched the full video and I'm going to look up the other games I can't play because of the strike. I want to show my support for the people on strike. And I'm going to tell my friends too. Thank you 🎉
I know right? It’s just different contracts. It falls under interactive media agreements (IMA) - not film and tv. There are different SAG contracts for film and tv jobs.

What don’t talk is the fact that ai can’t generate things out of nothing you still need to feed the program information in order for it to create something if you want it to build a house you still need tell the program what you want. It’s also not perfect it still has hard to making people. It has a long road ahead of itself before will replace anyone.

Mapping. Man is it about to get crazy because of AI. I’ve watched a part of what the AI voice. People are getting scammed through AI. A mom had gotten a call from a scammer pretending to be her daughter using her voice with AI, and mom didn’t think twice about. Then her daughter can down stairs, and the mom released it wasn’t her. Actors are afraid AI will take their jobs and basic on that I get why. We need to stick up for each other. People are convinced technology is smarter than us. I don’t think so. A lot of times it can’t understand what I’m saying and it can’t detect pictures like we can according to people that have studied the brain.
Thanks 🙏 makayla for always keeping us updated with what’s happening in the acting world
As someone who WANTS to be an actor & make acting my main job (btw I posted 4 vids recording myself re-playing scenes from movies & games) I'm just surprised that SAG-AFTRA has been on strikes 2 YEARS IN A ROW, and both on 2 forms of entertainment (& art) that I love more than anything
Maybe this one's also gonna end on my birthday like the last one... maybe
Also... Mapping
Early and this is actually crazy 😭
This video was REALLY well done, amazing work, super informative 💜
Thanks for watching!
Wonder what's going to happen next😮
i know this has nothing to do with the video but i can’t help but notice how beautiful your curls are is there any way you could do a curly hair routine 🙏🏿🫶🏽
Awww thanks! I probably would post something like that on my TikTok. I’ll show my routine for back to school 🩷
Yeah the actors are going on strike and nobody's noticing I hadn't even seen any news coverage on it
Post more often pleaseee!!
Mapping
Tysm for doing all this research for us it is rly appreciated 💗
And here I am working on becoming a Director 😮
Makayla watchers gotta learn how stuff happens and why it happens anytime so ur doing awesome job explaining it all in such a short time and good mapping out all the details 😁
Thank you!! 🥰
I perform comedy at open mic in my city and dream of going to L.A. or New York someday in the future, but with the pandemic and then two strikes, the future of the entertainment industry in America is looking bleak. 😭Guess I'll have to stick to Canada.
Canadians ARE pretty funny. lol

Yea hearing the behind the scenes of how Voice actors & mocap worked always sounds exciting to me (va’s such as Tara strong & Claudia doumit aka Neuman in the boys love them both 😆 ) I truly hope they get better wages and better control on ai although I do think studios have a point when fixing minor occurrences such as audio messes up but not control to just use them for entirely different projects without giving them pay.
Homelander is a character cameo. They used Antony Starr's likeness but he did not voice the character in MK.
Good to know thanks!
Mapping. I think this new strike is good btw love ur eyebrows and this was rly informative thank u
I think your video was pretty clear and to the point. As a SAG/AFTRA Member myself I don't know to much about AI but I'm really doing my homework on this issue. Great video.
Mapping. It's good to know what’s currently going on in the film industry.
Can’t believe this is happening again.
I hope that all actors of the film and television industry get what they deserve in Hollywood already. it’s been long enough :(
Inorder to have impact, they should time their strikes well. People often won't take something serious if it's a regular occurrence.
Makayla, I love your vids, you are my inspo, I wanna be like u, thanks to ur acting tips for crying on cue, I got my first theatre role!! ❤😭
Really good videos and content ! 🎉
Mapping. This was something I didn't even know was happening so Thank You
Missed your videos sooooo much!
This summer, in a world gone mad…
Ahh, movie trailer narrators -- now there's a good voice acting gig.
@@ronmackinnon9374 Ahahaha not anymore… but don’t we long for those days
Mapping I miss your videos and thank you for sharing this and for all your positive thoughts !
Thank you for watching ❤
@@MakaylaLysiak your welcome !
I’m a mature musician and actor in Atlanta. I retire from arts education in 2025 and will go back to voice acting/ film. Great job detailing the industry. I’m SAGAFTRA. #mapping
Mapping, great info that’s needed as usual ❤
It also gets me fired up when people put down artists, I get into arguments with people all the time especially my family since I'm the only artist 😢Being an artist matters just like any other profession 🔥🎬PREACH Makayla 👏👏👏👏
man, strikes are happening regularly, huh? dang, bro, that's crazy. I've never really thought about that subject matter, like at all, but i swear, these videos are super addictive to me.
I can’t believe there is another im definitely not moving to the USA now
I'm sick of these strikes, I basically cant get a job in Australia because all productions have been put on hold. Artists in post production are here being let go. Selfish Hollywood strikes again :(
HELPPP I love homelander too his actor is insanely talented! And this very informative, love your content as an actor myself and following ur personal journey as well. Would you ever like to act in a video game? I think it would be dope
Always happy to see your gorgeous face on here lovely. Missed your videos.
Hollywood being Hollywood once again. I swear, when will this disrespect towards the talent ever end? 😠

This video goes over it....

Since I can't post the link look up (clownfishtv- voice actors just made obsolete by their own Hollywood union)
talent in Hollywood 😂😂😂
The fact that you met Olivia Rodrigo and saylor curda when you acted in new girl is crazy ❤
Hey thank you for the updates
Sure thing!
I had a messed-up weird feeling this would happen at some point Again... “Sooner Or Later”...?!... 😳😳😳
heres the problem - too many strikes in too short of succession is just going to desensitize the general public into not caring.
I learned a lot from your video mapping
Jeez 🤦🏾♂️

Girl, WHAT?!?! I was at work, and this happens?!?!
Fr 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Thank you 🎉
I always thought they were included the whole time. Voice actors to me also fall into the category of actors.
I know right? It’s just different contracts. It falls under interactive media agreements (IMA) - not film and tv. There are different SAG contracts for film and tv jobs.
So you cant cross picket lines for video games but yiu can still work tv/fim/commercials.
Hey do you think you could do a video on stuff like auditioning and overcoming stage fright. Ive been thinking about filming an at home audition at some point but I feel awkward and almost a little embarrassed. Not sure if you'll even see this comment but it's worth a shot. Great video btw and I love your green sweater💚

This video was highly informative and exciting, which is why I love watching your content.
THANK YOU FOR THESE VIDEOS 💕💕
Glad you like them!
What don’t talk is the fact that ai can’t generate things out of nothing you still need to feed the program information in order for it to create something if you want it to build a house you still need tell the program what you want. It’s also not perfect it still has hard to making people. It has a long road ahead of itself before will replace anyone.
can you do a video on how to stand out in the film industry?
Nice vid and you're a good light skin girl Makayla, High Five and hug🙌🤗
Wow. This strike is something similar to last year. How will this strike end?
the thing about a.i is that its trained on artist that did not consent to have their works used
What about the animation industry? ☹️
Thanks for another informative update!! #mapping
Thanks for watching!
The troubles keep on coming nowadays.
so they stuck to their word…I may be the only one not surprised lol cause I keep up with this stuff regularly, they said they were gonna strike several months ago if they didn’t reach a deal by July 31. Ive been telling all my actor friends that a strike may be coming in July since February 😭
mapping🗺🤖❤ i feel like im livin under a rock half the time😭🤣. Like if I wasn't subscribed to makayla I literally would be the very last person to know that there's been a WHOLE new strike going on for the last nine days.btw you're really good at explainin stuff 😲 like I'm never really confused when ur explaining stuff like this🤯👍
That’s why you have to find the object in the squares for security questions to prove we’re not a robot.
The strikes are good, we want to bring AI actors, I am working on characters I can provide to media
Kep going 🎉
When I think voice actors for video game I think of the actors for Black Ops 3 zombies shadows of evil
I have a question so I’m starting a new full time Job next week and I’m taking acting classes in September I wanted to know if what I’m doing is a good idea or should I work a part time job to make time for classes I’m just soo lost right now and want to plan this out the right way
Of course once i get my headshots and im allowed to act another strike happens😭
