greeting from Iran " A dictionary of dodges in mankind history "is a better title . Accept my endless gratitude. and I enjoyed your beautiful accent without the need for subtitles.
Ow man, Maidana countering the pull jab from Floyd and landing the heaviest punch of both fights (a right overhand that made May stumble to his corner) would´ve been a great example of how if you are repetitive with your head movement it can be figured out by tour opponent and get taken advantage of! Anyways, great video, the explaining wording and editing are elite as always! Keep it up!
There are 2 types of head movement unless youre fighting out of the philly shell. In that case the right hand slip to the right is more pronounced. 2 added types of slips are slips in reverse (more on that later). When in a standard stance (three basic types aside from philly shell) on the outside the back hand is under the chin and in front of the chin open and palm facing toward opponent to parry jabs. The left is slightly higher below eye level palm in closed fist and locked to cheek (in all stances elbows are locked to ribs). In fighting stance is both hands closed fist locked to temples (temples, floating rib, liver, and if you stand to much sideways refs wont call kidney shots most of the times. Those are actually the worst places to get hit. Obviously solar plexuses and chin but actually despite mainstream non educated opinion, the former are physiologically absolutely more brutal). The two types of head movement (this is the philly system of fighting which is used by 90-95% of all the elite fighters) consist of the slip and the bob n weave. The slip looks like a / or \ using all lower back and core to launch diagonally between 12 and 3 or 12 and 9 o'clock (between leaning straight forward and straight to the side which was how tyson slipped which was the only deviation he utilized that isnt standard philly style). Then theres the bob n weave. The way its taught is actually with a step simultaneously with the jab, followed by gliding the back foot back into fighting stance thus closing the distance simultaneously with the jab and proper body mechanics ie footwork. The variation is to do that movement twice. Once inside and simultaneously back in a fighting stance and in full control of your body you begin the bob n weave (i wont explain the entire series of movements because itll take longer than ive taken already) the bob n weave looks like a U. You start on either side and you go down and come up on the other side, then back down and up on the point of origin with a hook (whichever side youre coming up on is the hand you hook with). Ideally you want to bob n weave starting on the right and coming up with a left hook if your opponent throws a right and vice versa with the opponent throwing a left hook. With the bob n weave you bend as little as possible at the back, its all legs so you dont A, lose sight of your opponent by looking at the ground and B, you never want your weight in a position were youre unable to move on a dime, and finally its about kinetic linking and having a constant flowing series of movements ie, system of fighting that uses the human bodies natural mechanics as efficiently and effectively as possible. Youre simultaneously using defense and flowing into offense back into defense seamlessly while keeping your body balanced and in position (one of the reasons why you never come up on the right throwing a left, because youre putting yourself on the outside of your opponent and especially if you miss youll lose sight of your opponent which is deadly).
@@SkYWaK im not sure what youre referring to exactly. If you can refresh my memory. Just so i don't go explaining everything itd take forever lol. Are you asking about the head movement?
@@SkYWaK the philly shell starts with the stance "philly shell stance" and all the fundamentals of infighting or out fighting apply as theyre all different aspects with the same base. The same principles apply. However in the philly shell the stance dictates your movements as much as any attacks that could come your way. For instance, its like a venus fly trap or spider web in a sense because it appears that youre open to straight right hands but thats not the case if you execute properly. When the opponent throws the straight right you slightly lean diagonally to your right and back and you do an exaggerated left shoulder shrug. When timed correctly the right hand bounces off your shoulder, and the standard counter is your own straight right hand as your already loaded up to throw it by using that shoulder roll.
Im a new boxer and enjoyed this video. A slip bag is one of the best tools for head movement. You can practice all these defenses head movements and even add pivots and step pivots. Your basically shadowboxing. Its the first bag i bought since im in a apartment. Hope all of you stay safe and healthy during your boxing 🥊 journey!❤
It's interesting cause I see less & less fighters using the slip ball. The slip ball is fundamental to boxing just like the speed bag, the heavy bag, sparring, shadow boxing, the double end bag, etc.
A great video that really makes boxing look beautiful as a sport when it is done by masters. Loved Cannello and Alis movement with the head- very special!
I always suggest moving your feet more than anything, it’s so neglected when people utilize head movement they do often forget to move their feet in sync, that’s why most peoples head movement sucks and they get cracked. You should only slip one, MAYBE two punches MAX, before a) using the opportunity when they miss to counter or b) move your feet changing your position entirely. Otherwise it’s a waste of movement, wasted and missed opportunities, and is overall just much more risky. I like to see guys slip and roll the 1-2 like you mentioned, rather than slip slip, like some people teach. It’s not a good habit unless you’re advanced and are looking to set up inside slip counters, maybe you’re drilling inside slips. But in general I like to see guys take a step when slipping and then pivoting or drop shifting out, or slip and rip right away, and then slip or duck out to avoid immediately being countered after the counter to remain defensively responsible, or even double jab out. Just to avoid being cracked before or during your exit lol ALWAYS move your head or your feet after the last punch you throw. And Try to draw out the exact punch you want to counter, make dam sure you have the range and timing down before you go looking to utilize a lot of head movement. Otherwise if you go in trying while a guy is fresh and you think you’re just gonna anticipate and guess what he’s going to throw and you’re gonna hopefully slip or roll the right way you’re gonna start gettin cracked…. Then you’re gonna be a step behind you’re gonna forget to move your feet, youre going to be off balance, and not be able to see the next punch and you’re going to wonder why tf you keep getting hit… don’t make that mistake… ALWAYS (even if you get hit) KEEP YOUR EYES on your opponent, so you can at least see the next punch coming…. Don’t ever look away, lean, cross your feet or give up your position ideally. And practice the FK out of it, I mean relentlessly everyday, it should be a big chunk of your training. Learning to remain balanced, your foot positioning at all times, knowing exactly where you are and exactly where, and how close they are. And just drilling tf out of head movement correctly, learn the different head slots and then relentlessly drill head movement when shadow boxing and with a partner. It takes hours and hours of repetition.
