    This was great. Something that might be cool is to have a couple submissions and then get a few different big name mixers to critique the same songs without talking to each other. I'm just curious how many mixers would find the same issues. I assume most of them would find the same treasures, but it could be a good experiment. Cheers.

    I remember reading an interview from a band i really liked who had transitioned from an independent record label to a major, and commented on working in a high-level studio for the first time. They said the biggest immediate difference was that the engineer or producer made them tune their guitars after EVERY take. EVERY ONE. I started doing that and noticed an improvement in my productions!

    Thanks for the feedback! I forgot I had sent you a mix, was casually watching this and said, “WTF?” when you said my name and played my song. I agree with you on the snare. Getting my snare to “crack” through the mix has been a weakness for me. I do agree the vocals are loud, however when listening on AirPods, I like how they sit. Good call out on the kick sample being unique for the genre. I did that on purpose 🤠 Appreciate your thought on the 1k on guitars too. I think my ears might have a natural dip on 1k because I seem to have done that on some of my other mixes when I’ve taken them into commercial studios to be mixed. Thanks again, this was a fun video and shout out to the other musicians who opened themselves up to feedback as well. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

    • @Fire-Toolz
      @Fire-Toolz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      to me it's not as much of an EQ issue but the snare sound or sample itself. a more aggressive snare would probably cut a bit more and go with the style of the music more.
      also you should take a hearing test! it was really helpful for me. i have a little hearing damage around a few different treble frequencies, and now that i know where they are, i can be extra careful and (shhh don't tell anyone) rely on meters a little bit more in those ranges.

    Oh man this mix could be my old mixes as well. And I think over the years while learning one is scared to start from scratch again and again until the own template mix gets way simpler. I tried to persevere everything I learned in one template. But the truth is , just start over and over again until your template gets more effective while at the same time less complicated, you will learn more and more until you reach a point where your template is just basic eq an compressor settings and the rest will come way easier than. Don’t be afraid to lose something in an over complicated mix just because it may took u years, embrace it.

    super helpful as always. would love to see more. though, i figure it is probably very fatiguing for your ears!! Would be great, if you dedicated more focus on the changes in the arrangement. revealing a bit of your experience and expertise as a recording engineer and active producer, regardless of how much the submitting producer might have been involved ,because sonically those parts really make a song come alive. And it's their (our) job to really enhance especially those moments, changes in tempo or atmosphere or choice of instrumentation, shifting accents and so on. It's all about the build up, the tension, everybody wants the chorus and wants to sing along, whereas in fact the magic happens right before. just like s....!!! Ps. respect and gratitude to those who sent their mixes to the ultimate test. great job.

    Love that the first one's file name is "Final Mix 3". We've all been there haha. This is definitely my final mix. Oh wait... is that snare really cutting through the mix? Lemme just tweak that. Ahh much better. Final Mix 2. Hang on a sec...

    ‘Nasal quality of the vocal that could be a recording problem’ had me thinking about Glenn Frickers ‘don’t cup the mic!’ meme.

    Sure would like to see more mix critiques. Where would one send one for potential feedback? 😅

    Love it! Im curious, do you think youtube further messes with the mix? Would be curious how different what we hear is to what you hear. I wouldnt be surprised if someting were lost in their compression algorithm.

    I would also suggest them tuning the vocals as well...this genre needs very tuned vocals....I think that would pull a lot of things together in the mix.

    Oh, any of my mixes would have been completely roasted if I hadn't missed the note and tried to send one. But mine are not so competitive cause they're instrumental. Anyway, why not to try, if there's a chance? This is really helpful, hope this series will go on.

    I've been convinced to never share my mixes with anyone. I shall spend the rest of my career locked in a closet practicing the tuning of my guitar. Thanks.
