Florida brought in laws last month to kick squatters out. Essential we have this. There should be no rights for squatters.
They caused criminal damage by the way they entered the property and by gluing the locks. On both those counts the police can arrest and charge them and whilst they are at the police station, Ramsay's attorney's can regain the property.
We don't have a housing problem in this country, we have an over-population problem

This is a civil matter, say the police. I know a man who had a squatter in his flat, which was up for sale. He rang the police, civil matter they said. So he said, if I go down with my mates and break the door down, bang a few heads, will it still be a civil matter. Cops were there in a flash.

First of all, isn't trespassing against the law? Secondly, the owners of long-term empty properties are not responsible for the shortage of housing. I'd say get them out and arrest them.
Trespassing is a civil matter so you have to go to court to get redress.

It’s a simple question of law. The Met police were correct in their assessment of it. The only way to change how these incidents can be dealt with is to change the law. I doubt whether that will happen.

There's an empty house next door to my friends. It's been empty since the 70s and the owner will not sell or rent it. There's an homeless guy near me, i might tell him to go and squat there.

Very simple; solution to this tell them that you need to do a property inspection date/time and for safety reasons everyone needs to be out of the building when the inspection is performed. Change the locks when they whine ask for their lease agreement no agreement then it's a civil matter they can take him to court without a leg to stand on.
Got to love amateur lawyers with very simple solutions who don't know what they are talking about. They have no obligation to let inspectors employed by he owner in unless they have a court order to repossess..Police can't enter without a warrant, but only then if a crime has been committed. If the squatters forced entry or damaged the property for example. As it's a commercial property, squatting in itself isn't a crime.
If it's private property it's not just a "civil" issue, that's the whole reason why you can be trespassed off a commercial property in the first place. Civil is court stuff but trespassing inside someone's private property surely is criminal.

i remember 50 years ago ? a long running episode of squatting in the tv show CROSSROAD and they couldn't evict them either .50 years on no change in the law .
