Majority of malaysia Is Muslim with the larger population on the east coast, but sarawak is majority Christian with over half the population being Christians there. So Christmas celebrations are quite pomp there as well along with the Portuguese settlement in Melaka as they are originally catholics.
Merry Xmas and happy holidays.. You guys will need to do your rounds all over again in a few days after Xmas.. coz the Xmas decos will be replaced by the Lunar New Year deco al over the malls 😅 Also, the reason why the malls are not that busy is because those who are celebrating Xmas (like myself) are all home celebrating Xmas with our families and attending either midnight or morning mass

my take is... yeah, the concept of cooking your own meal in a restaurant is indeed "different". it's an experience, so to say. i guess you feel more "personal" with your food. try it! it's a fun experience to share for sure and it won't cost you a bomb.
About the drone, it illegal to fly a drone in public area especially in the city and police can involved if you get caught. You need a permission from police because they have authority to let you fly the drone or not but mostly people won't to do that. Some people do fly a drone in private area like your own house area.

You guys have been producing videos in Malaysia, garnering thousands of views in a matter of days. Your viewership has not been as great in your other destinations. Your production has been great and narration on point. However. I made one observation, that has almost become an irritation. As you both are Americans, I can understand when you refer to the Christmas season as the holiday season with your tendency for political correctness. Over here in Malaysia, we have the Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Vesak, Deepavali, and Christmas Seasons. Over in East Malaysia we have the Pesta Keamatan in Sabah and Pesta Gawai in Sarawak, which are both harvest festivals. The word holidays does not sync with us Malaysians as we enjoy the various festivals that occur at different time of the year, for which we, have a day or more as public holidays. I wish you guys can study the norms of the places you visit instead of overplaying your Americaness. No malice intended in my comment, purely constructive.. Merry Christmas.
