3 vs 4 fletch speed and sound test downrange!

  • I have used 4 fletch more in the past but this reignited my love for 3 fletch.
Testing 5 vanes we fletched all the same with right helical and sent downrange to gather sound and speed at the bow and up to 60 yards.
Let us know what you prefer and why!

This was a good test you did. Ive wanted to do a similar test for vane noise and this is exactly how id do it. I just think a 3 shot of each arrow to take an average of would put more confidence in the numbers. I'm hearing guys say the max stealth are loud and quiet is something i believe is a priority for me. This test kinda supports what im hearing. Those tac things are supposed to be good.

Appreciate it and I agree! There is some variables with the meter I’m sure. Max stealth were surprising I should have tested again. I did this in 4 fletch and they were similar to hybrids as well. I would rate them as average noise. Thanks for stopping by! -Kyle

4 fletch is more weight, 8-10grm so I would not be surprised they are a little slower.

Absolutely! It was interesting to see how they held speed as well. Appreciate you stopping by. -Kyle

What vane and/or combination would you trust the most? I would be curious to see the same test with the fixed broadheads such as: Ironwill Single Bevel, Day Six Evo, Grimm Reaper Hades Pro/Micro Hades and a Slick Trick. Which configuration steers the best and which configuration is most consistent without tuning each individual broadheads?

The most testing I have done is with AAE hybrids 26 4 fletch. If I tuned my bow I could take them out to 100 yards pretty dead on with field points. I have not tried that with 3 fletch but that combo was absolutely more than enough to steer them. Truthfully having a tuned bow and one that shoots a bareshaft with field point is more important to me first then adding fletchings you are confident with. Hope that helps! -Kyle

I really like the new AAE Air Razors. Stiff like a TAC Driver 2.75, quiet and less drag than a Silent Knight.

That is great to hear! I have played with them some and noticed they keep memory much more than hybrids. How was fletching them for you? They seemed a little more picky thank the hybrids but still worked without primer pen.

Can you do a bare shaft as a baseline?
Since all the vanes are similar in sound id like to see what they're actually increasing.
Iml think we're just splitting hair on the whole 3v4

Yes there should be bareshaft in there as I measured it when I did 7 vanes total 4 fletch. It was 53.5. -Kyle

I just got some DCA mini sabres to try in a 4 fletch.

@@TrueLineOutdoors I made up 3 arrows from GT Airstrikes and 4 mini sabres and 125g point, they were flying really well. 87yds and the flight was nice and straight. Looked better than the TAC vanes. I think they are tall enough for 3 fletch so am trying that now on Victory RIP.

Out of a well tuned bow all you need is a three fletched arrow.

Agreed. I used to nock tune with 4 fletch as it gave me more options there but going with 3 fletch this year. -Kyle

I agree. I think more of the influencers go with 4 fletch to encourage more sales of fletchings

No doubt. I’m a max helical guy (only when shooting fixed blade BH’s) and feel that a max helical will recover faster and steer better than a four fletched. But, Dudley uses a four fletch so I’m probably wrong. OR he’s suggesting a four fletch so people buy more of his vanes. He kind of knocked DCA’s in one of his podcasts last year and I completely disagree with what he said. However, I did realize that he might be trying to put them in a bad light so that people don’t switch from stealths. A lot to unpack here and hard to write in a comment 😂

Awesome man! It is so different for every person as you know. I do really like AAE as their vanes are always so consistent and easy to fletch. The DCA are impressive but I’m still learning about them and how they work.. For example I did have an issue with the Suoer Sabre regular size and vane clearance with 3 fletch. To keep my Hamskea at 13/16 I was hitting the left side of the cage. I may try the minis and this may not apply to everyone. My goal here is to get people thinking about what they want to try and test it in their own. What is your go to vane? -Kyle

I have some of these as well, arrows fly well and lots of clearance at the riser. Some BH's act weird with them, suddenly dive at distance.

Field tips are one thing , try with broadheads?😊see if that changes things.👍😁🎯🏹🦌🦌🦌

    • @N8Stein
      @N8Stein 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's a different variable. Without this variable tested first, what's the point! Could've been the fletchings causing the problem. But say you add 8 Broadheads to these 8 vanes all of the sudden you have 64 shots! That's a lot of work. But I do imagine there is some testing worth being done there. For instance I had a setup where I was just like, dang that thing wizzes and changed up my fletchings and they were substantially quieter. All in all. Just shoot your gear! Really appreciate these data points though.

    • @anthonyforfare7223

@@N8Stein true it’s a lot of work but if your just a target shooter then there is not point to shoot anything but field points. If your hunting then only broad head testing matters because solid broad heads vs hollowed out broad heads sound different and different game reacts differently with pressure . Variables are nearly infinite when it comes to hunting vs target . Fun videos though 👍😁🏹🎯

Everyone is obsessed with sound…I’d rather give up a little in sound for a vane configuration I know I can trust with a broadhead. I’m sure if you did a test with broadheads you will find out that some steer better than others depending on the broadhead. Silent Knights and AAE Max Hunter’s both steer great with a few different broadheads with a good baseline bow tune…Tac Driver’s 2.75 while quieter are a little more temperamental and requires testing/tuning to get your exact choice dialed in.

I shoot single blade double bevel or single bevel heads and the 3 fletch is stable . The 4 fletch slightly louder , slightly slower, but more stable , especially at long range . - Corey
