First of all I'd like to second the notion that you are really helping people. One bit of advice i can add is the Army/Navy stores (or online if you have an address to ship to) can be a real boon. Instead of the comforter, I've found that a pair of surplus Army wool blankets (or a single Swiss surplus wool blanket) are far better. They can hold me until i need the light sleeping bag, can be added to the light bag when the heavy bag is to much and are good for just sitting around with. You can also easily hitch them up to make a match coat.
You can extend the range of comforter or sleeping bag by 10 degrees by slipping a 55 gallon contractors bag over it, keeps wind and spray from hitting sleeping bag and plastic retains heat. I modified my contractor bag into a top quilt with foot bok by cutting a slit in the bag halfway down. I also use a 30 gallon trash bag as a poncho windbreaker, only weighs an ounce.
50 of 74 years a hobo. A number of us call Thanksgiving " turkey day ". The highlight is getting a turkey dinner. Vs what was the usual swill. Growing up I more and more began to dislike the extended family get togethers. Almost from teen years onward preferred solitude. Could always get way more than enough interaction in soup lines and the occasional shelter. Of course I always headed south come late fall. Different groups give socks, gloves, a recycled material blanket and maybe a few snack bags during the holiday season. To insure being warm enough I would fold those things blankets in half and lay them over the bottom half of a sleeping bag. As long as my tarp stopped rain/snow/wind worked very well. Would pass the blanket to those needing cover of some sort as weather warmed up. Paying it forward in a way. Always 2 or three layers of cardboard as well as my camp pad to stop the ground from robbing body heat.
Holidays are a net downer for me. Prices are hiked, shops are closed, and services are cut back, while there really aren't any "benefits" that accrue to me. I don't have any family, friends, colleagues, neighbours or peers, so there aren't any social benefits for me, either. I'd be most happy if all holidays were permanently cancelled.
You don't have nothing. You have your show and it's making a difference in people's lives. Remember this
Thanks for the encouragement!
It's not what you have it's how you use what you have that makes the difference

Dude, you are helping homeless everywhere to be more relatable and visible. Thanks for your posts, with best regards from Canada.

I've done the contractor bag hack but had problems with the bag getting wet from condensation, so for me not a long term solution

Thanks again for sharing!
People chained to their desks making barely a living wage. That ain’t freedom. You’re free. Enjoy it.
I was worried I didn't see your show. Glad you're ok. I hate the holidays.
I guess Hobo Road would be a good choice for when the Living Dead walk the Earth and are hungry for Brains Merry Christmas Happy New Year everyone !
Christmas day 2019 . Heart attack and quad bypass. The pain of recovery. Christmas is ruined forever. I like new years
I saw a lady begging on The corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Sahara today. Her sign said I’m too dumb to steal and too ugly to prostitute.
You remind me of a Clyde Ranger, I knew in PortLand..., too long ago now...

Right on!
