  • The area under natural farming in India is 6.5 lakh hectares. Natural farming is a chemical-free farming system rooted in Indian tradition and enriched with a modern understanding of ecology, resource recycling, and on-farm resource optimization. It is considered an agroecology-based diversified farming system that integrates crops, trees, and livestock with functional biodiversity. Many states in India, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, are already practicing natural farming and have developed successful models.
Why farmers are switching over to natural farming?
    1. Climate change
    2. Health benefits
    3. Economic benefits
Zero Budget Natural Farming: Zero Budget Natural Farming, ZBNF for short, combines traditional farming and Agroforestry practices. It was designed as a cost-efficient method to maximize the yields of small farm holdings. It uses local materials to make agricultural amendments instead of costly chemical inputs such as pesticides and fertilizers.
    Panchgavya:
Panchgavya is a term used to describe organic products produced by using five different byproducts of cows cow dung, cow urine, cow milk, cow ghee, and cow curd. It has the potential to play the role of promoting growth and providing immunity in the plant system thereby, it provides resistance against pests and diseases. It contains several nutrients i.e. macronutrients like N, P, K, and micronutrients which are required for the growth and development of plants and also contains various amino acids, vitamins, growth regulators like Auxins, Gibberellins, and also beneficial microorganisms like pseudomonas, azotobacter and phospho bacteria.
    Role of Panchgavya in Agriculture:
An organic substance that can help plants grow and develop their defense mechanisms. Cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd, jaggery, ghee, bananas, tender coconuts, and water comprise its nine ingredients. When combined and applied properly, these have miraculous effects. It increases productivity by encouraging the growth of roots, stems, branches, and leaves as well as associated metrics including leaf area index, chlorophyll content, oil content, protein content, and other quality and yield factors.
Significance of Panchagavya in Plant Defense System
Panchagavya is an organic product that has the potential to play a role in promoting growth and providing immunity in plant systems. It consists of nine products, including cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd, jaggery, ghee, banana, tender coconut, and water. When suitably mixed and used, these have miraculous effects. Panchagavya has growth regulatory substances such as indole acetic acid, gibberellins, cytokinins, essential plant nutrients, and beneficial microorganisms like lactic acid bacteria, yeast, actinomycetes, etc.
