    Nice demo there Ben. Definitely a handy app. I noticed some people stream scanner/radio audio through zello too. I also like the sounds on 'TX/RX'. Cheers

      They have to have the app signed in, but not actually open. It can run in the background so the phone can be locked or using other apps and it'll still work

      It can still work when the phone is locked actually. You still have to turn the screen on but don't need to unlock the phone. You can also use a headset or Bluetooth speaker mic that is compatible with Zello and set a button on that to be the PTT.

    Can I buy a walkie talkie on eBay that works with zello and keep my phone number on it? In other words if I don't have my cell handy and somebody calls will it come through on the push to talk phone?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer no. Walkie talkies don't work on zello and can't take phone calls unless you're connecting to a proper network which you'll have to pay a subscription for if it's even available and at that point it's basically like carrying a phone with a push to talk button

  • @XRinger
    @XRinger 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    How come we don't have an app that works like a real Walkie Talkie? Without the internet? Peer-to-peer using wifi?
    Might be nice for bicycling or hiking etc..

    • @radiosification

      +Richard Lee There may be some using bluetooth, but the thing is, the range is so bad with Wifi and Bluetooth that you may as well just shout

      If you are out in the country, where there aren't dozens of wifi routers in all directions, I'm sure you could connect with another phone within line-of-sight out to 100 meters. I've been experimenting with a cheap ZTE and an old iPhone 4 and they have more range than expected..
      With a cheap outdoor antenna on a wifi router, even in a very active wifi neighborhood,
      www.amazon.com/Antenna-2-4GHz-Wireless-Indoor-Outdoor/dp/B008FH2ZBM
      I can hear wifi routers, laptops, wifi printers and wifi phones out to 300 meters.
      Using a Piratebox connected to my router, it's possible to text from phone-to-phone,
      piratebox.cc/openwrt:diy
      without the use of the internet. I can watch videos from the Piratebox files folder out to 100 meters easily. Listen to music out to 200 meters..
      Put the Wifi analyzer app on your phone and check out it's range.. I think you might be surprised.

    • @RadicDejan72
      @RadicDejan72 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use "Intercom for Android". No Internet needed. It uses wifi and renge is 100 meters.

    Does Zello work in the background, if the screen is off and the phknemis in your pocket, or can you communicate only after both phones launch the apps?
    And what if you have a team of 4 members. Can it broadcast just like a walkie talkie?

    It makes no sense u cant just use it in a saved conversation mode. People are busy. If your needing to say something but can't expect them to have it come thru live at that time it makes more sense to have it just notify u that someone said something and you can respond at your availability

      This is push to talk. You push the button and talk and it comes through instantly (almost) on the other person's phone. They don't have to answer the call or anything. Also you can do one-to-many calls so you talk and it comes out on a bunch of people's phones almost instantly

    3:15 really
    I disagree on that ... I’m an avid Zello user I also have a ip radio
    And compared to RF line of sight. Where if your out of range you will surely lose connection
    While using Zello via WiFi aside using it globally
    Network connection is clear and certainly capable of sending txt and images
    That RF radio are lucking
    Unless ham operators have a taller antenna if they have one’ and mounted it on vans
    Just to say CQ😊
    But with an ip radio you don’t need all of that .
    That’s how useful network radio is

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With an IP radio you're still using all that RF stuff, just that you're renting access to someone else's network - your mobile phone network

    • @joefrazier4288
      @joefrazier4288 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@radiosification
      Correct so why some ham operators say IP is not RADIO when in your words “Using some of that RF stuff’😊
      renting network access is not a problem if they can buy an expensive ip how much more renting it’ and it’s a network android radio everyone uses android ... even ham operators paying for there license every time it expires
      And don’t forget the money invested in radio & equipments including the antennas mostly the taller antennas they been paying that at enormous price
      Imagine those dozens of radios bought by most Ham operators ‘
      With a network raidio all you need is one unit or a phone in Zello App and your business is a sure win while others are still calling CQ
      FOR ME IP RADIO IS ANOTHER KIND OF RADIO
      AN EVOLUTION OF RADIOS
      THATS USES NEW TECHNOLOGY
      ITS. TECH EVOLUTION
      For fast moving peace time technology and not end of the world 🌎 use 😊
      That’s for the RF radios job like uv5r and others like that’
      It have its purpose and use
      And ip is growing rapidly
      Even ham operators are using it 😂 but still saying it’s not a radio...
      Anyway... as long it can help a person to communicate more easily more faster more reliable specially on none apocalyptic way’ it’s good enough to be a radio when it looks like a radio it talkie ptt like a radio plus other features like txt or sending image photos gps locator just to say a few ...
      compared to RF radio during business all it do is ptt
      Then ip is my ideal business or emergency use
      My RF radio will just have to stay in my house and relax while waiting for grid shutdown or end of the world prep type scenario
      For daily job or fun time
      Network radio is the new
      Tech evolution of radio
      That’s just the way it is 😊
