when i used zello you could select a city or district and there was allsorts of channels and you could talk to poeople like the way you can on a cb radio to strangers even , but cant see it on here
well explained i just found out about this today for our storm chasers notifications what keeps this private from other listeners? thank you so much for posting
This is push to talk. You push the button and talk and it comes through instantly (almost) on the other person's phone. They don't have to answer the call or anything. Also you can do one-to-many calls so you talk and it comes out on a bunch of people's phones almost instantly
I thinking of getting a inrico TM-7 than using my tablet for it they look ok something that look a little like a radio there many make out there and model TM-7 is one of the model you can buy their from off Amazon all eBay by typing in network radio PTT like it up if you like their type of network radio
They have to have the app signed in, but not actually open. It can run in the background so the phone can be locked or using other apps and it'll still work
Nice demo there Ben. Definitely a handy app. I noticed some people stream scanner/radio audio through zello too. I also like the sounds on 'TX/RX'. Cheers
+Ringway Manchester Thanks. The sounds are all default apart from the end of transmission tone which I made in audacity to sound like a Motorola TETRA radio haha.
How come we don't have an app that works like a real Walkie Talkie? Without the internet? Peer-to-peer using wifi? Might be nice for bicycling or hiking etc..
If you are out in the country, where there aren't dozens of wifi routers in all directions, I'm sure you could connect with another phone within line-of-sight out to 100 meters. I've been experimenting with a cheap ZTE and an old iPhone 4 and they have more range than expected.. With a cheap outdoor antenna on a wifi router, even in a very active wifi neighborhood, www.amazon.com/Antenna-2-4GHz-Wireless-Indoor-Outdoor/dp/B008FH2ZBM I can hear wifi routers, laptops, wifi printers and wifi phones out to 300 meters. Using a Piratebox connected to my router, it's possible to text from phone-to-phone, piratebox.cc/openwrt:diy without the use of the internet. I can watch videos from the Piratebox files folder out to 100 meters easily. Listen to music out to 200 meters.. Put the Wifi analyzer app on your phone and check out it's range.. I think you might be surprised.
You can use "Intercom for Android". No Internet needed. It uses wifi and renge is 100 meters. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidintercom I'm looking simirar app for windows mobile 10.
It makes no sense u cant just use it in a saved conversation mode. People are busy. If your needing to say something but can't expect them to have it come thru live at that time it makes more sense to have it just notify u that someone said something and you can respond at your availability
Can I buy a walkie talkie on eBay that works with zello and keep my phone number on it? In other words if I don't have my cell handy and somebody calls will it come through on the push to talk phone?
Short answer no. Walkie talkies don't work on zello and can't take phone calls unless you're connecting to a proper network which you'll have to pay a subscription for if it's even available and at that point it's basically like carrying a phone with a push to talk button
Can I use this app to talk with a pillion bike rider while riding my bike ? What obstacles I'd face if I want to use it as an intercom between me as a bike driver and my pillion rider ?
You probably could but it would stop working if either of you lost internet. It would be better to just use a bluetooth system purpose build for motorbike riders
It can still work when the phone is locked actually. You still have to turn the screen on but don't need to unlock the phone. You can also use a headset or Bluetooth speaker mic that is compatible with Zello and set a button on that to be the PTT.
I think you didn't understand how this works. It's over the internet, so it works wherever the phones have internet connection, via WiFi or mobile network data connection.
Does Zello work in the background, if the screen is off and the phknemis in your pocket, or can you communicate only after both phones launch the apps? And what if you have a team of 4 members. Can it broadcast just like a walkie talkie?
3:15 really I disagree on that ... I’m an avid Zello user I also have a ip radio And compared to RF line of sight. No, zello only works over the internet. Phones are not much good for communicating back to back at any reasonable distance. For that you'll need to get some walkie talkies.
I'm still looking for an "actual" walkie-talkie app, years later still no results😄 "once the satellites go offline, these silly apps go absolutely useless" Anyways I'm surprised Motorola has an actual FM radio app...
I prefere the real stuff. We use real handsets all the time when we go on city trips so we are always able to find each other. But I can imaging Zello having a way bigger transmission range over the internet.
That is the disadvantage of that zello... you had to have wifi data.... but in two way you have to.... but I have zello in my phone... ahahahaha!!! Peace!!!😂😂😂
I was on about zello other day on Facebook I thinking of getting mobile radio network I thinking of getting a inrico TM-7 if you haven't saw them TH-cam inrico TM-7 can buy many network radio from off Amazon and eBay if you don't want to use personal phone as walkie talkie all radio for car all house as they build handheld type that look like walkie talkie and they build a mobile type that look little bit like a cb all a amateur radio like it up if you never heared of their before there many makes out there inrico is one of the make out there

Does the other person have to have the app open in order for them to hear the message? Like does it work like the traditional walkie talkies?
They have to have the app signed in, but not actually open. It can run in the background so the phone can be locked or using other apps and it'll still work
Awesome... im still looking at getting into radio still do you have a Zello channel we can join?
I didn't before, but I just made one now. It is called radiosification. The password right now is just "digital"

+Richard Lee There may be some using bluetooth, but the thing is, the range is so bad with Wifi and Bluetooth that you may as well just shout

No, it only works over the internet
I guess the problem would be getting your selected contacts to install it. 🙄
Hello, I have a question can you use this app with android and Talk to an iPhone
Yes
tnk you for responding
Hello @radiosification. What are the models of your Samsung phones? They look absolutely fabulous! Haha
Remember when motorolla had these on the razor phones as mobile handsets? This is great it will be very handy
Had what? Zello?
radiosification not exactly but similarly
You mean a PTT service? I don't remember that. Maybe it was available in your country but I'm in the UK
Can I use it without WiFi
How far of range between two phones

Does it work with the multifunction buttons of a bluetooth headset?
Does it work at miles away with the contacts option ?
It's over the internet. It works anywhere where there is internet access
Yeah it does I'm in a rp server and my chief for FD is in the UK and it works perfectly

It does just make sure you have the setting to accept microphone on all the time

Yes
Does it work on your data / wifi
Yes, it needs internet access
So basically useless without internet connection. I thought it worked without a line.
This is the best App in my work. with the phone, we talk a lot BS. With Zello just right to the point with many people in the same time.

PTT means push to talk, so these are "PTTs"
@@radiosification sorry... I mean talk with baofengs for example
You also push to talk on those so they're also PTTs. If you clarify your question I might be able to provide a useful answer
