I was planning also on working out In My Room, the arpeggio-type staggered harmonies and such. So here’s the deal. As with Surfer Girl, I’ll get to work on my version of it-and then learn yours when you post it! 😄
I was wondering how to go about taking a melody from a song and transposing it into a chord progression the way you do? It's easy enough to play a melody using single notes, but the way you play the melody with often 3 or 4 notes always amazes me. It adds so much more depth to the arrangement and I'd love to be able to do that, so I was wondering if you can please push me in the right direction of learning how to do it? It works really well with beach boys songs seeing as those guys always have brilliant harmonies
There a great player and teacher online named Tim Lerch. I took a handful of lessons with him and got a lot of ideas from him. He really pushed me to learn chord shapes and arpeggios of jazz blues progressions and standards. He has greats video on TH-cam and he also offers online lessons. I never mastered it but got a lot of ideas from his approach. I want to go and learn more! Also check out Ted Greene. He was the master of playing accompaniment and melody simultaneously on the guitar.
Part of it is learning to play chords with only 2, 3, or sometimes 4 notes on several places up the fretboard. And knowing what the melody note is and how it connects to that chord. I don’t know a ton but what I learned stuck with me enough that I have my go-to back of tricks.

You've done a very nice job "instrumentalizing" the entire song with just one guitar. Just like you did with" I get around " last week. I told my wife that I needed to buy a Jag to play this song but she didn't believe me so I showed her your video playing a Jaguar but I need YOU tell her that a Jag can only can be played because thats what the Beach Boys used for this song anything else doesn't sound the same and you know that I am right..so tell her her...I need a Jaguar..I will even take a Squier
