- Steve Hillage (born Stephen Simpson Hillage, 2 August 1951, Chingford, London, England) is an English musician, best known as a guitarist. He is associated with the Canterbury scene and has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s. Besides his solo recordings he has been a member of Gong, Khan and System 7.
one of my favorite Steves songs,
it is track 1 from album - Fish Rising (1975)
Solar Musick Suite :
1. Sun Song (I Love its Holy Mystery) (0:00 - 6:00)
2. Canterbury Sunrise (6:00 - 9:30)
3. Hiram Afterglid Meets the Dervish (9:30 - 13:12)
4. Sun Song (reprise) (13:12 - 16:56)
All rights go to Steve Hillage, I don't own this song.

We are gathered here today from all around, to celebrate eternity.
Erik Hesjedal amen
Long live eternity🌸
Beautiful life
God I so love Mr Hillfish's love of the holy mystery..."The sun sings he wants us all to know what dawns behind our lunacy"....This is the very best of albums trips to have for tripping & getting it right lmao & are we ready now to be a colour in his harmony????
And in the second of realization
the Angel of the Rainbow was watching us to see.
If we were ready now to be a colour in his Harmony.
Ah! I love its Holy Mystery......The spirit in the air is never far............!!~~~
we had the chance to meet mr hillage at ozora festival (in august 2019), with some friends. we went to his show, and when it was over i decided to go to the stage (as a guitarist I was so intimidated to speak to such a legendary musician), there was not so many people, so I could go to him, and I told that it was a great honor to meet him (as french people we speak english like spanich cows as we use to say X) my brother came with me to give me some help ( I was petrified X) and told him we really like all he did, and that we really want to take a picture with him. We took the picture and it was an incredible moment, he kept smiling all along, after that we were like "man he looked so stooone!" a magical moment, forever in my mind, god bless !
The finest guitar many have never heard
I've seen this darling man 7 times mainly in the 70's at the Rainbow in Seven Sisters road,London... At that time power cuts were happening and on one occasion me & other half at the time was in a pub with candles.. I digress.. The gig happened late, we had to leave early!!! as train situation, but! It was a memory... I will always treasure..
Met Steve and the band after a gig in 1977. What a nice bloke.
Bought this album when it came out. It sounds even better than I remember - sort of jazz-funk meets psychedelia, no doubt about it Steve Hillage is one of the best guitarists.
Un guitariste vraiment original, expressif et personnel dans sa démarche, on reconnait sa signature direct !! Son travail avec et après Gong est remarquable...à noter aussi son apport dans la musique électronique. Celui là fait partie des musiciens qui m'ont marqué.
One of the better version ever..Pierre, my soul's bother, R.I.P for Enertiny.
I saw this in Preston when it toured. Hillage with Gong doing Hillage's album. Magical. We were in the cheap seats but as soon as the house lights went down the band got everyone down the front. Amazing live sound, so full, and I've loved the album ever since.
Love Gong/Hillage. Fish Rising is a classic. Hillage very under-rated guitarist
i find his music confusing and amazing at the same time, hes so good, its hard to know what hes playing over, its not just dorian, or minor 7th, guys a genius, as good as Howe in my opnion.
Why do folks on YT, insist on labeling any artist they like as UR ? Steve Hillfish is highly regarded.
Composer
since I discovered this song a few days ago I've played it again many times, because "hirman afterglid meedts the dervish" is FREAKING amazing
Steve Hillage the gift that keeps giving! especially at 7mins
Carajooooooo!!!
This guy was such a huge influence on me when I started playing guitar. So underrated but so good. I thank my old neighbour Rex North for introducing me to all this beautiful music and the wonderful stories that he told me. I still play to this day 39 years later!
Love Hillage , awesome player 🎸
love gong family, daevid, gilli, steve , miquette , et al, [love steves solo albums this is my very fave
This is amazing. If this music was a house I would like to live in it.
The intro arpeggios are so beautiful... Steve is fantastic
whimsical and deep, vivid and groovy, fluffy and virtuosic and completely wonderful noises!
I had a whole bunch of vinyls back in the day from Steve Hillage and ... I have for some idiotic reason gotten rid of them?
wtf was I thinking?
Technical masterpiece really.
Wow, what a musical journey... ^_^
Great artist and a great band with Steve on this album. That keyboard work by Dave Stewart is fantastic. Wonderful stuff.
incredible energy when he opens it up in the second half. UNREAL!
I've been listening to him since I was 16 (25 now) unbelievable musician. I met Todd Rundgren in 2009 and asked him how it was to record "L" and Todd responded with, "let's just say he (Hillage) only recorded when the moon was full"
if u are that young and your interested in music from so long ago, u are probably a genius.
That's really funny, I've been listening to him since I was 16 too, but I'm 62 now!
Since I was 17 thanks to my older brother. I'm 56 now.
Tall tale
this is epic amazing! what a delight it is to be human!!
What a great track this is and great album too.... love all his 70's stuff
Such an incredible, very special musician, composer, singer and

De lo mejor, super guitarra, batería, bajo, mágico, 😇
been years since i heard this little tune... very touching and inspired
Have you listened to it recently?
My friends and I went backstage to see Steve and we asked him if he would like to share a chilum with us in his dressing room.
The event was the Scottish N Orc.... playing Tubular Bells with Steve H playing the guitar bits. Wow what a night
Did he partake of the mighty chillum?
Great sound
Sheer talent !.
Amazing! His best work I think
dedicated to all optimistic visions of the future.
Glorious! At 9:30 when the hiram the afterglid meets the whirling dervish kicks in , absolutely splendid.
that riff lets you know that its about to kick off.
Ahh maaan that's soooo good..
100% solar musick suite from Fish Rising...........
Side 1
"Solar Musick Suite" - 16:55
"Sun Song (I Love its Holy Mystery)" - 6:15
"Canterbury Sunrise" - 3:25
"Hiram Afterglid Meets the Dervish" - 4:05
"Sun Song (reprise)" - 3:10
"Fish" - 1:23
"Meditation of the Snake" - 3:10
Brilliant.
I just love playing this on guitarr
The sun sings that he wants you all to know
What dawns behind our lunarsea
For since our very words were commandeered
We've explored the infinite circuitry.
To try and find a scheme that gave us form
It burns our curiosity.
And the answers that we sit and hope to find
Are living here inside of we.
And so we set foot on the pathway
Between the pillars of black and white
To put aside the fears and doubts that hold this old world down
And open up our hidden store of Light, within.
I saw all the stars that glimmer above me get off
their pegs, and gently flicker down.
And all the people of the world dissolve into
a sparkling dust.
And through the Holy Vortex, for a second it did pass,
and then it returned to what it used to Be
And in the second of realization
the Angel of the Rainbow was watching us to see.
If we were ready now to be a colour in his Harmony.
Ah! I love its Holy Mystery.
No need for sitting always on our own,
staring desperately at all of the problems of this world.
We see mistakes maybe our high is blown,
But sometimes you need the black to see the white to
Find the core of love and Beauty.
So we can change our Lead back into Gold,
and make the chemical wedding twixt ecstasy and concentration.
We've got to learn to use our hearts and minds
as the building stones to make the New Age World Electrik Temple.
So people look into each other's eyes
and gaze at them with certainty.
We're gathered here today from all around
to celebrate eternity.
The Spirit in the air is never far
immersed in our totality.
And the answers that we sit and hope to find are living here in side of we.
Never let the seal of love be broken
lest you act too suddenly.
We're waiting for the energy to come
in the age of electricity.
Magnetic tape Time swirling back and forth
a-faster than the eye can see.
And the answers that we sit and hope to find
Are swimming in Our Mercury...
Maria Stringer ...
Dear Maria, that is the most wonderfully inspired wordery I've ever read. I hope you don't mind if I attempt attaching some music to your beautiful poem? Love. PDA.

this is incredibly good and touching. I deeply enjoy each time I listen to it.
in ear head phones, eyes shut, stoned, head back. .and listen
if you like this, you'll love Khan, space shanty, a few years prior, it's a masterpiece
This song is just awesome, from the beginning to the end, it's art ! I love "The Salmon Song" from Fish Rising too it's great ! But the whole thing is just genius ! :) Thank you Steve !
it is I've got the album.....great stuff indeed!
My friends Massimo"Er Canna" and I saw steve at the gong family unconvention on 2006 and we can say it was an exoteric experience: since that time Max prophetizes things that heppen!
" ЗВЕРЬ " ! ... (чё тут ещё скажешь) ... (и ангел) ...
Smooooooooooooooooooooooking weeeeeeeeed everyday........
I like Steve more than Gong and Gong is quite good! Steve has more room to move and grew more as a solo artist and with the musicians he played with seemed to make him better from what I feel! Steve is an incredible guitarist/arranger and a good singer with a pleasant voice!
gong is quite good eh? thats a good one!
Nice spaced out music
Correct.. : ) From what I recall, it's track 1 on my Fish Rising LP. With the 4 suites in parts A/B/C/D. Followed by FISH! : D

You can hear the influence of pink floyd Hendrix and George Harrison in this.....
You couldn't say it better. Probably I was! :)

I liked Fish Rising better than Gong."You" ! I saw Steve February ,1977 with ELO. STEVE'S US tour was recorded at MSG NYC...

What version is this? I have the studio version on the album "L".
You are wrong man. This is the first song of his first album "Fish Rising" and that's this version is. The version which appears in this album of 1975. "L" is the second one and it appears one year later, in 76.
Giordano De Luca in " L " its LUNAR music suit , be carefull :)

Holy shit im hello!

Disgraceful
He was the poster boy for acid. The Punks wanted to burn him at the stake.
We
=
around 10;09 it sounds a bit like shakti/Mclaughlin+Santana, said it before, ill say it again, 70=RULED
Looks like Robert Plant on guitar !!! 😅
if you like this, you'll love Khan, space shanty, a few years prior, it's a masterpiece
Great album!
For sure! Khan's Space Shanty is one of my favorite records of all-time. So good.
Yes - Fish Rising is actually Space Shanty Part 2! Both brilliant albums, and there's a clear link between them. If you combine the intros to Hollow Stone and Mixed Up Man Of The Mountain on Space Shanty, you end up with something very like Solar Musick Suite!
amen to that
Another superb record (from another Steve that is) is Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte. Great songs, great playing!
:-)
