I had to play that part back in case I misheard it: "The beginning of the Alphabet: Å". That's literally the last letter of the Norwegian alphabet :) We've got the standard A to Z and added Æ, Ø and Å at the end just to make it confusing.
    Nice and enjoyable video, guys.

Interesting. I can see how he would not know that, but there's no excuse for turning the simple Lofoten into Loofoten!

Å is actually the very last letter in the Norwegian alphabet. It may look similar to A, but it is its very own letter. And the "hard to pronounce" part of Narvik station is the Sami name for Narvik. Awesome video, with you as a story teller i could watch anything!

Mike, you are a gifted storyteller. Your episodes invite us to reflect on our world, our relationships, and the important people in our lives. You highlight fantastic stories and awesome adventures yet you don't make it about you or solely about the accomplishment. You make it about the journey and how we can all find joy and purpose by discovering our journey and sharing that with someone special. Your relationship with Jess is so endearing that I hope all those with siblings recognize how lucky they are to have the chance at experiencing that bond. And no surprise that train travel is one way we can experience some of that. It forces us to slow down and be present in the moment. It dares us to look out and see the world through a different lens. It encourages us to consider simplicity as a version of happiness. Thank you, Mike.

If you wanted to do this for the Southern Hemisphere, you'd need to take the 'Ultimate New Zealand Train Journey', which is the only way to get to the most southern train station (connected to the mainline, a small preservation railway in Argentina more Southern). It's like the Rocky mountain tourist trains you did in US and Canada. The most Southern station with regular service is Christchurch via Coastal Pacific train.

    Ok, It's a bit clickbaity.
Not that I don't appreciate Swedish railways or going to Narvik, but I expected a journey to Murmansk or Karskaya, since I'm not sure the latter is open to the public, but the former surely is.
    Discriminating gauges... So sad.

      @@DownieLive I mean, that's fair
I don't like Russia either, they have a dictator and invaded Georgia and then Ukraine.
I just like obscure railway content.

Lol…I love my sister, would love to take her on adventures. As you said, siblings relationships are unique…but nobody else loves you like (including hate love, lol), knows you/understands you better or will unconditionally be there for you like your sibling. Don’t ever take them for granted and don’t ever let that bond fade…glad to see your bond! (And glad to see it in such a beautiful place!)

Whenever I am having a bad day, I watch your episodes. Turns out I had a bad week this time and your episodes are refreshing enough to wash it off. Travelling with family is like hitting two birds with one stone, quality time with them and a memorable trip. Love your work Mike! 👌

Lofoten is one of THE most beautiful places on this planet. We took our caravan up north a couple of years ago, for almost 4 weeks in Scandinavia and gladly we took our time to drive down to Å and Unstad. Surfing north of Island is just crazy. And yes, the water is just ok in summer, with up to 15°C. Sure, that's a good 10°C below my preferred temperature, but Unstad is way closer to Svalbard or the North Pole, than to Rom or Mallorca.
    Glad you had fun!

I fell in love with the ferries when I visited Stockholm, such an efficient way to get around. One thing that surprised me when visiting Norwegian fishing villages is just how much they look and feel like their counterparts in Newfoundland.

I really chuckled with a full heart when you said that Å is in the beginning of the alphabet. I mean logically it would be to someone not utilizing Å Ä Ö
But they're actually the last letters, ie, end of the road, end of the alphabet!
Å would for someone not familiar with those letters, be easiest to think of as a compressed oh. Like the O in 'Porch', 'Pork', 'Orc' or 'Orchard'. A mix of A and O
Ä is more like the first E in Beverage, a good example to listen to is that famous clip of Freddie Mercury doing some warmup with the crowd. 'WÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ oh!' A mix between A and E
Ö is a harder one to explain, it sounds something like the first E in Earn but without rolling the R.
Hope I could make some sense for someone.

Not a tunnel, it's a snowshed. Behind you, there is probably a mountain from which snow can avalanche and the snowshed tips the snow over the other side of the railway track.
What a beautiful and fun travelling companion. We are both jealous.
