How do you get ideas for your covers?

Chill videos are absolutely cool. Glad to see you back!!
And I agree, it's great to see those early stages of the process. I would probably benefit a lot from just getting multiple ideas out in thumbnail form rather than starting with the first idea I think of and Making It Work Or Else.

Ha! Yeah, when I have an assignment, I always need to get the “bad idea” out of my head immediately! The first thing I think of (for covers, at least) is usually boring or derivative, so I need to make sure I’m pushing myself to something cool and unique!
Now, if only I could do six different thumbnails for pages… haha 😅

My cover philosophy goes back to Silver and Bronze Age. How can I summarize the main story (in case there's a back-up) in one image without giving away the story or any surprises? I don't like the current trend of pin-up movie poster type covers, though it doesn't bother me as much for a first issue to a series. I want to sell the story inside, not just that it exists.

Fun video! I would watch some chillstreams, just watching you do your art.

Really enjoyed this. New to the comic art world and love listening to more chill videos like this while working on my own designs. Informative and soothing!

Is really heartening to see you take photos of yourself for reference to draw.

Heck yeah! Much easier and faster than finding reference online or just winging it and hoping for the best! I’ll use the 3D models for very simple or very extreme poses, but if I can act it out, I’ll do my best! Haha

The Dungeons and Dragons books are great learning. Dungeon master guide, Xanathar's guide to everything, and player handbooks is great for imagination igniting.

Totally! I've run a few campaigns, everything from making my own campaign in the Forgotten Realms to running some Yawning Portal adventures (tons of fun) and Tyranny of Dragons (super confusing, but still fun). This new one has been a lot of fun to work on, since it's all my own world, so I can do whatever. The West Marches style is perfect for our group, too, who are all adults and have a ton going on. haha

Did one of your breaks involve some sneaky miniature painting? 🤔🥰

      Haha Found out!
Nah, you can see the Song of Ice and Fire, Kill Team and 40k Necrons on the shelf behind me! Along with my (ashamedly) unpainted Marvel Crisis Protocol stuff. I've also got two unpainted Blood Bowl teams and am working on some baddies for 5 Leagues From the Borderlands and 5 Parsecs From Home. If you found me through my Reddit post about Frostgrave, I'll probably have a recap of that weekend, plus some self-fan-art of my Wizard/Apprentice from those games on here at some point. haha

I’m doing this series called Death Demon. It follows a ballerina called Lucy Montgomery and her eyes turn red when she’s angry
