So happy that I ran across your video. I’ve watched a number of videos here on TH-cam because I’m in the market to purchase a new car. I’ve had my eyes on the K5 GT for a few months now. I have to be honest and say that I was beginning to back off the car because of the TH-cam videos, that is until I saw yours. Well done sir! I love the raw honesty! You just sealed the deal for me. Thank you!
I dont know why people dont talk about the self driving on them, but after experiencing the kia K5 self driving I fell in love with it, so much so that I bought one for my wife as well.
I thought I would never use it. Man I use it all the time. I'm waiting to finish breaking it in before I go on a road trip. (2025 gt line w gt1 package)
Thx for the video. Me and my wife ordered a 2024 3 weeks back. GT with the GT1 premium package in wolf gray. About 40 k with taxes. They are saying 2-8 months so we are waiting watching videos 😢.
Really glad I found your review.. I just Test Drove the 2022 Kia K5 GT this afternoon. Hearing your honest take on the car has helped me to make a decision.
Thx for a real life review. Like you said most car reviews arent practical, they only have a short amount of time with the car. You need time with a car to know how it really is. Your video has helped me make a decision
This is the most helpful review of this car I have watched. You're right. I've watched every video I could find but they're all treating it like it's supposed to be a race-car not a commuter with some kick. Thanks for making a video for the people that would buy it!
I know this is disheartening, but it will be ok. And all car manufacturers have definitely had transmission failures in thier new cars.. its not often,, but does happen. I have been driving 46 years now. I have only bought brand new cars since I was 20..I have had several issues with some, all resolved to my complete satisfaction. In june of 1994. I bought a Trans am. Loved it. In fact, I still have the car. And always will. It cost around 47.000 thousand dollars in today's money.. About 1 week after I bought it, smoke started billowing from the front end, and all the lights started flashing on the dash. I thought the car was on fire. It wasn't. Turned out the alternator had burned itself up, at around 500 miles. They replaced it. Car now has 337.000 miles on it. That same replacement alternator is still on it, working perfectly fine. The engine has never been touched, not even the timing chain, still runs like new. I've also had 3 Korean cars now, 2 kia spectra, a 2005, and 2007. Both were flawless to over 100.000 miles. 2 months ago I bought a K5 GT LINE with premium package in passion red. Very nice car. So far, no issues. Every car can have faulty parts, and you just happen to be the guy who got the faulty transmission!! Dont let it sour you on the car, that may very well now turn out to be a great car that goes to 100.000 miles with no further problems. About the stereo, go into sounds and get to the radio adjustments. Push bass and treble to max. The radio in mine sounds quite decent after doing that. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.
My heart goes out to you, friend. Especially since I bought a 2022 GT-Line a few days ago. It's a good idea to check fluid levels on new cars before buying, but nowadays most cars don't even have a transmission dipstick. Kudos for not ranting that everybody connected with Kia should burn in hell. But somebody didn't do their job and you're paying the price. Good luck to you. Also, may I add no company seems to make a decent DCT. I'm always reading bad news about them.
Actually there are a few really good really reliable DCTs out there. The problem is the maintenance on them is even more important and without it can go bad.
I was told at a young age never buy a brand new car the first 2 years of a redesign...the most problem happen the first few year espically if they get new engines or tech
I bought a 2022 GT K5 and had the car 3 weeks and had problems with the fuel pump , was a manufacture deffect, was in the shop for a week have it now so far so good.
They should've caught the low transmission fluid at the dealership. I took my Stinger in for an oil change and got it back 1 quart low on oil, with low windshield wiper fluid. Tells me the mechanics are just checking off boxes and not actually checking the car. I'm sure this happens with all dealerships.
Don't worry man you'll get it back soon you must be really unlucky though my cousin bought the same one as yours fully loaded too with all the vented seats stuff and he has almost 10k miles on it too with zero issues you gotta admit Kia-Hyundai nowadays are making good cars but they're just not consistent there's always like 10-20 cars in a 100 with some problems from the factory
But for the customer who paid it after working 22 hours a day every day of the month just so that he can afford that 1 car he always wanted to have and getting those defective ones is frustrating. Companies should take proper inspection if they are charging money they want.
@@furiousfragment7082 While you are wholeheartedly correct, it really does suck, but if you really are working 22 hours a day every day of the month to pay this car then some priorities have to be set straight.
Great review, and nice to hear the thoughts about the 1.6 vs. the 2.5L. I just picked up a GT line in Artic White and dealerships around my way are jacking up the prices on them because nobody has them in stock, so they're selling for MSRP or above. It's crazy but I was able to work out a decent deal, but only decent because I would have never dreamed about buying one near MSRP in the past. GT's were impossible to find and this is a daily driver so it's fine for me, and figured I can always upgrade once (of if) the market levels out. I have the six speaker system and all it lacks is low end, so one 8 or 10 inch would probably suit me. I don't need a ton of bass, already had vehicles in the past that I went nuts with on the sound systems. Looking for suggestions on speakers, or a decent sub to add to this thing that will even out the sound. The factory amp seems underpowered so I don't know if swapping out the speakers would be needed. I also don't want to mess with the stock wiring too much due to the warranty, since I plan on driving it for at least 3 or 4 years tops. These things do get a lot of attention, just on my ride back from the dealership I already had somebody eyeballing it and they pulled up beside me to ask what it was. It's all show, no go, but that's fine for a daily driver ha. I might want to change the fake out dual exhaust tips also.
"I have actually had the car back for a year now. The 2nd transmission has over 10K miles with no issues. Car has been great." He has a recent video of new mods done to the car.
Well lol, I really do need to a 2nd video for story time. At 17k the 2nd transmission failed in a similar fashion. I’m now on my THIRD transmission. Kia is putting out a recall notice soon. There was apparently a bad production run of a circuit board that goes into one of the transmission pumps that had a bad solder joint.
I had a transmission issue with my 2019 Forte that I use for work at 2000 miles. They finally gave the approval for a replacement about a week after I had it at the dealer. They had my car for four months and then it took me over six months to get reimbursed for the rental that I had to get before they gave me a loaner. Actually the wife and I just went looking at K5’s today. They wanted almost 3k over sticker for one with red seats 🤷🏻♂️. I may wait until fall when my lease is up to see if it gets any better. Hope you get your car back sooner than I got mine back.
Where do you live? I live in Washington and the dealer I'm getting mine from not only sells for sticker ( no additional markup) but actually knocked 350.00 off
Thanks for sharing your story and your thoughts. Hope you get your GT back soon. Was informational and despite your views on TH-camrs, I'd be very interested in these kinds of takes on other models. Thanks again.
Your story is aligning so well with mine right now. All I’ve ever driven were high milage grandma cars.. just want something for work.. never had. New car so I’m saving and researching.. I find the Kia and the gl line is what I want. I RESONATE WITH YHE BACKSTORY
Just got a red K5 EX, one of the best cars I've owned. I get people all the time asking "what is that?" It's a beast! We went from a 2008 infiniti m35 to this.....love all the new technology. Let's ride bitches 🤪
I have a 2021 Kia K5 GT-LINE and it has 22k miles, I drive it everywhere and everyday. The only problem that I have with it so far is the steering column, but it’s covered through warranty. I be speeding like crazy with it (usually 80mph sometimes 100 🤫) almost everyday. But other than the steering column problem, I haven’t had any other problems with it. I love it, I just wish it was faster lol.
My 2019 Kia Forte EX's transmission died at 12,000 miles. It was in the dealer for 2-3 months. Winter storm also affected it shipping parts. Then a few hundred miles after that, Engine overheated due to some sort of cooling leak.
This was a good watch. I am just about to invest in the K5 GT !, which I test drove yesterday. I love the car and will try to buy it next month. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Just got a 2023 k5 gt. Have 2k miles on it now. I love it!!! And they sure do dominate the streets. It’s pretty fast for what it is, didn’t expect it to be that fast honestly haha. I get so many compliments on it too. Not so many k5 GTs around I guess you can say they’re rare or just in my area lol
I agree with the comment about the reviewers. Many of them hopped in the K5 GT and expected it to be a damn M5. It's still a family car. It was never marketed to be a sports sedan.
Yes. The k5 lxs is a wonderful treat to experience compared to the old 1.6 liter engine that used to be non G.D.I. I can imagine your disappointment with the tranny problems. I'm sure you're going to be very happy again when it comes back! I'm thinking about getting one definitely some day. Have my second k5 rental again! Going to be going in for a test drive when the dealership gets another GT in. Enjoy!
Damn!!! That sucks man. I was waiting to get the K5 GT and said fck it. Because of Covid, I didn’t think it was coming out. So I ended up getting the 2021 EX with everything. I have like 8-9k miles on it and no issues. But Kia warranty gotcha man. Also if you want a fast car I would go with the Stinger. Just recently got that and it is awesome. This is my 6th Kia and never had a issue. Also you are right the K5 was not for racing. Good luck and will definitely follow you. Great review and Frfr Kia will take care of you man.
I had a 2016 Optima with 63,000 trouble free miles and my 2019 has 30,000 miles without a hiccup. I just heard the Stinger is being discontinued after July 2022.
Sounds like you’re a victim of the times. I’ve been reading a lot of articles about newer vehicles and how many were gonna fail within the first few months to a couple of years. The articles said because most vehicles sat in ports and dealerships for months and some a year, certain fluids and parts that shouldn’t be stagnant for too long, we’re gonna cause them to fail. Hopefully, things work out for you my dude.
Sorry that sucks. That's exactly why i never buy a car with a all new engine or transmission. I wait at least 2 years so they can work out all the bugs. Good luck to you.
Good review, I do like the Kia Gt but really hard for me to stray from my Honda Accord 2.0T 10speed great transmission. I think Kia needs to slow down on production instead of spitting cars and suv out and focus on quality and reliability, they could do this!
I want to let you know that Kia and Hyundai is having an issue with the 2.5 DCT a lot of customers are talking about replacing the transmission with less than 6000 miles. I had to do the same thing for my sonata n line. Just let you know they will replace it but I think the transmissions are on back order.
Noooooooooo. My Charger flooded out about 6 weeks ago. It was the car I drove for a job that I drive hundreds of miles a day. On pace for 79k miles this year. The finalist cars for my search are 2021 Jetta GLI 2022 Kia Stinger 2021 K5 GT/Sonata N-Line About two hours ago I decided I would take the GT/N-Line ahead of the Stinger because the DCT made a bigger difference with this engine.
I have a Kia k5 gt… Going thought the same thing… owned less then a year, 8000 miles and transmission went out… took Kia 2 weeks to agree to replace the transmission, another for me to get a rental.. so far going on 3 months without my car and hopefully in the next 2 weeks I should have my car back
I’m about to get the 2023 Kia K5 in wolf gray Gt line with the premium package and I’m stocked. I’m coming from a 2020 optima. You guys think I did the right choice picking the k5? I drive A LOT
Would love a 1 year update to your 4,600 mile review! Just had my GT ordered a couple weeks back so I'm looking for people who have had these cars over at least a year to judge any weird issues that may pop up. I'm 95% set on the car, however with how horrendous the Georgia plant was for the older gen vehicles I'm still a bit skeptical.
Im glad you asked this question because I ordered mine and it will be here at the end of the month I’m in agreement a follow up would be excellent however I’m ecstatic that you got it back with no issues thats very satisfying. Im praying mine wont have any issues at all.
Love the video, I'm trying using to ok purchase one. Can't seem to find the one I want. Grey Wolf with red seats. Just like yours. I plan on upgrading the radio. Thx
Had it about 11 months and can't get enough... keep it sparkling and I like the monitoring aspect with the KIA app. Always know if there is even a door left unlocked. 4800 miles and loved every one of them.
I’ve had a 21 forte GT line and have had it since June. Been a daily. Got it w 13k now at 19. It’s been good for sure. Never had a car before but had a 07 Silverado lol. Definitely love this car
At least it's not the car itself' Dealer Problem, I love my K5 GT only thing I got to complain about is they should have never put first gear that high of RPMs, you don't have time to shift when your hands are on the steering wheel turning, you can't make a turn in Stick mode quick enough if you want to get out of the way of traffic, you have to be quick enough to shift it in 2nd or once you start moving shift it straight to 2nd, think the problem is when you start pushing the gas and turning the traction control kicks in and downgrades the power so you don't burn out, so get out of first gear as soon as possible there's no need for it.
Hey man, I just recently traded my 2020 Nissan Maxima with 60,000 miles (problem free) for a 23 k5 gt used with about 3500 miles and well… it’s been a nightmare. My k5 has a stupid electrical issue where none of the electronics in the car work, cars been in the shop for 4 weeks now 🫠 Thinking about going back to a maxima, it gave me 39,000 problem free miles
I have now officially parted ways from the K5GT. I should probably do an update video. When I gave it back to Kia, it was on its 5th or 6th transmission. I was having trouble keeping track. The last time it was in the shop for 6 months, not sure how many transmissions they tried in it. I hope they get you fixed up. If it had not been for the crazy transmission problems, I really loved that car.
Is that a wet dual clutch 8 speed in your GT vs a dry dual clutch? Do you find it jerky at low speeds? How was the 8 speed (non-dual clutch) transmission of the 1.6 turbo LX rental? Did it have AWD? and don't you think that the 8 speed non-dual with AWD combined with the 2.5 Turbo would make an awesome GT-Line?
Good review. Sorry to hear about the trans. The dealership should have bent over backward to get you a rental..I've had probably 30+ cars in 42yrs, and I currently own a Hyundai Sonata N-line, with the 2.5t that the Kia has and love it. I do have a heavy foot, and with all-season tires, it's not hard to squeal the tires. I'll probably switch to summer tires. I don't know why they would put all season on in social. I'm pretty much only driving in the city, and getting low 20's (heavy foot, but it's fun). I've had a ton of Hyundai's since 2012, and I've been very happy. My daughter has a civic EX-L, and the cvt is annoying, the doors move like they weigh a 1000lbs and the trunk sounds cheap when closing. still the honda is a good car, but I'd take a Kia K5 or Hyundai over the honda
Dude, I own a red GT, GT1 package, now with 5200mi and your review is EXACTLY RIGHT. I agree with everything you talk about this car. And it definitely “owns the public road”! So sorry to hear about your manufacturing defect transmission but you’ll eventually get this car back and as long as the technician does the repair correctly, the car will be just fine going forward. Cheers!
@@nobreaks3305 they can range that high but you don't need to spend that much. I got a jb4 for my sonata 2.0T for around $600ish dollars. Went from 16-18PSI to 20-22 PSI with fuel control to lean out afr in the upper rpms.
I have an optima 2018. I wish they stuck with the infotainment screen for the k5. The touch screen on the k5 looks like an oversized garmin mapquest system.
I bought a brand new K5 GT also and transmission went out at 1800 miles!! Took two months to get it back! It sat outside for two months where it got hail damage!!! Just now getting damage from that taking care of also. Been quite an ordeal if my transmission goes out again I'm not sure what I'll do. Kia owes me money!!!!!!!
@@mildlyinstructionalcarwash4533 they put fluid in first but it didn't work so they went ahead and replaced transmission which was on back order. So yes I think the same thing. Is a real red flag I hope this one doesn't go out also. Must be costing them alot of money. It can't keep going out though they'll have to fix/reengineer that problem. The service manager at Kia was also telling me about brand new Kia Souls that were blowing motors!! Now apparently they are scoring the piston wall.
@@seansingleton155 yeah I think I have now counted up to about 8 or so other reports/owners who have had this same issue across the K5GT/N-Line platform. This new engine/transmission combo is currently going into a lot of different Hyundai/Kia models, so they’d better get it ironed out. I have my fingers crossed that there were just a few bad units and that our replacements will be rock solid. I’m hoping mine is ready this week and hopefully no nightmare cosmetic damage like yours. My car was perfect when it went in for repairs 2 months ago.
I'm just curious. If you look at the inside door, can you tell what location the cars were made? Wondering if your vehicles are from the same plant or if it's how the cars are built by specs. regardless of plant.
@@melanievia mine was built at the Georgia plant, Jan 6th 2021. But on the window sticker, it shows Korea as the country of origin for the transmission.
i had been looking all over the country for one for months because i didnt wanna wait the 4-6 months to have one built. called every dealer around the country, luckily i finally found one with wolf grey with the chestnut brown and gt1 package like i wanted and its being delivered in 2 months. The GT1 Was important to me bc of the bose premium sound system. Is there anything I should know or any features yall didnt know it had until recent? Glad to see that you got your car back!!
😁😁😁i just brought a kia soul 2021 in January this year i already have 10,000 miles on it but its only the lx trim and it doesn't have gdi i hope your car gets fix 😁😁😁
I own the 2022 K5 GT. I had a little issue with mine being so low to the ground the splash shield took a beating. It was actually coming apart on the freeway. Kia road side service was a joke. I waited 4 hours for a tow that never came. Ended up driving it home like that.
Woww! Nice to hear great things but Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Unfortunately pandemic cars are made different and everyone should get extended warranty
I have a 2021 awd with smaller engine has 18 000 km 11185miles owned for 7m I'm in Canada the awd is great but it can't handle the cold temp it's in the shop and the sensors need to be changed for the cooling system and on back order now I'm stuck with a rear wheel drive dodge charger for a rental 😀 sucks in the snow it was Mopar or no car lol
Honestly, it's not a common issue. It could be a batch that has a faulty sensor?? Many others aren't reporting this issue. Toyota and Honda have their issues also. For the ones that dont have issues, they don't run to the internet and report "hey zero issues for me... Yay" BMW m3 had many engine issues. Q50 rs had turbo issues... Enjoy your car.
Awesome review my dude. Hope you get your baby back soon. I've been looking for a new car for months. After watching those "TH-camrs" videos, I wasn't confident in my decision about the Kia K5. Today I finally made my appointment with the Kia dealership in my neighborhood. Thanks to your review. However still not sure which trim I should get "GT-Line or GT". I assume a test drive of both is definitely needed lol. Just wanted to show my respect and appreciation to you for your video and personal input on the Kia K5.
I love the look of the K5, and they are still not available in large quantities. I'm 6'3" and bought a Civic LX in 2013. Didn't want a sunroof. Had them and never use them. I had the dealer change the cloth interior to leather. I have had 148K absolutely trouble free miles, but I realized at six months the car was just too small for me. I made a mistake not doing enough research and completely ignoring the Accord because it looked a little boring inside. Now I have fallen for the K5. I would pick the more sedate GT Line. I want Wolf Gray with a red interior and the local dealer wouldn't discuss a special order. I really don't want to spend 27K. But I think I would be disappointed with the LXS due to the manual driver seat especially. I buy new cars and keep them a long time. I've had a much better track record with reliability across the board with Ford and GM products buying new. This Honda was my first non American car, and just price wise from the research I've done I will not be buying another American vehicle. I don't know how my car search will pan out. The Accord is boring compared to Hyundai's Sonata and very boring compared to the K5, but they have their pros. I wish you well and hope you don't have further trouble. It's very frustrating to find and pay for something you love and it need constant attention. Almost all car dealerships are not great about service. It's about sales. It's not great when the warranty expires, but I have my favorite mechanics not associated with a dealer who provide so much better service. However, I'm not sure what I'd do with a blown transmission. I had a Ford Taurus I bought (former fleet car....mistake) that I had to have a new torque converter on and they were fine with that. Anyway, I think buying new is worth the extra expense. I don't push my cars and all of the new ones have been trouble free for at least 100K miles. The Honda's interior has held up better than my American cars AND better than my parent's Lexus 2010 RX350 with only 30K miles and garaged.
The people talking about quality and reliability on the K5…..these cars have very few issues. I’m on my second one with combined of around 40k miles. Not one single issue. And for the price, you can’t beat it. Amazing cars.
I’ll be shooting and posting an update video sometime soon. Car is currently on its FOURTH transmission. Which stopped shifting seconds after leaving the dealership. They still don’t know what’s wrong with it…
What website did you use to locate your car? I'm willing to fly anywhere just like you did but I can't find the exterior and interior color that I want😩😩😩
I used autotrader. At the time I bought this car in the US there were only 7 GT’s in Wolf Gray that had the 8” screen. I really wanted the wireless CarPlay.
Thanks for the review. I chose the EX premium package and definitely very pleased with my purchase. Enjoy your ride. The cooling seats and Remote start on my watch/phone is nice!!
Thank you so much for the excellent review. I am so sorry about your car. I hope Kia fixes and you do not have any more issues. I started looking at the K5 GT but now after this video I am second guess. Good luck and thank you
Just bought a 2022 GT the first thing I noticed was the speakers, holy cow what a let down! My 2017 Niro had better bass than this! 😅 still a fun car to drive but definitely 6 very sad speakers installed.
Thanks for putting in the time. Good review. I’m trading in my second Telluride for a K5 ex premium and pick it up in about two weeks. I’ve had zero issues with either telluride. None. It’s been a great ride and I love the tech so I guess I now have some brand loyalty. For the record, my dealer in Texas told me they are no longer making the GT line which explains why I couldn’t find one anywhere. There are some N-lines available but I like the look of the K5 over the Sonata.
Hey I work at a MERCEDES BENZ N we have cars with same problems n our parts are in back order n honestly don’t know when they will arrive bcuz of COVID we been having shortage on parts . Just three months ago we had a shortage on car batteries . So in other words just be passion cars like kia MB BMW all cars from outside the country are having a hard time getting parts. Even new cars we have a shortage on new cars bcuz of the shortage on chips . Long story lol anyways hope u get ur K5 soon
I worked in Mercedes service years ago and this is nothing unusual. I also worked for Volkswagen, Audi, and Land Rover. Hand built S55 engine with 23 miles blowing clouds of smoke out of the tail pipes because two cylinders were not board properly. E500 Wagon with a collapsed air suspension in the showroom. Audi A8 transmissions improperly filled from the factory. They kept us busy that's for sure lol.
Is it a 2021? Did you ever get it back? And when? How many miles are on it now? Any more problems? Thanks in advance for your answers and also the video.
Yes it is a 2021 model. I have not yet gotten it back. Transmission failure was on June 12th, first diagnosed by Kia dealership on June 17th. Car is still at dealership waiting on back ordered transmission. The new transmission should be at the dealership in the next few weeks. It’s expected at the distribution center this week, but apparently they have been backed up getting parts from distribution center to dealership. It’s been delay, after delay, after delay, but hopefully soon!. I really miss that car, other than this mess I have really loved it.
@@mildlyinstructionalcarwash4533 I'm buying a 2022 gt next week . It's still on train en route to railhead in Portland Oregon. I live in Washington. It also does not have GT pkg 1. I think that means I'll be missing the memory seats, right? Also when you put in the subwoofer, does the factory radio have RCAs, or did the installer need did hook up a line converter? And what subwoofer did you get and how much power?
I’m not sure if they made any package changes in the 2022. Mine does not have the memory seats. I did not get behind the radio, as I do not believe there’re are RCA’s/preamp outs. I tied into the rears for signal, and connected that to an LC2i. The LC2i provides RCA out to the JL power wedge I installed. It’s a “powered subwoofer”. This setup provides just enough bass to round out the factory system without overpowering the pretty wimpy stock speakers. It’s definitely way better with a little bass, but not going to win any competitions lol.
Mine is the Wolf Gray with black interior that has the red trim. If I’m not mistaken that was the ONLY interior offered in the 2021 GT’s. I bet that chestnut looks awesome.
Never ask family and friends advice if you seek absolute honesty. They normally will either hate or love whatever it is. True research would have given you the tools to know not to buy Kia/Hyundai. What good is a 10 year warranty when this crap happens your lucky they don't blame you and deny your claim altogether. That happens more than you think. When talking to other Kia owners remember, misery loves company. True professionals, men and women in the mechanic shops who know what's going on with automobiles will tell you do not buy. This is self evident in the resale value, or lack of.
Build date (on the vin label)? Sorry, at 14:44 you finally get around to what the actual problem is. Being an early 2021 model, I think some teething problems are expected. I'm aiming for a 2022 or even 2023 MY.. Hopefully by then kia/hyundai get things better sorted.
I’m not sure what digits on the Vin are the build date. I do have the VIN if you know how to decode it. And yes, I bought this car knowing full well it was a brand new platform, and some bugs are to be expected, just wish it could be corrected faster. Looks like it’s going to be another 1-3 weeks 🙃
@@mildlyinstructionalcarwash4533 I know you’ve said about not being a TH-camr as such but keep us posted. It’s potentially my next car if the accord 2.0 doesn’t suit my fancy.
I’m in the process of upgrading a little gear to start doing a few more videos. I’ll be doing some car wash videos and an exhaust and intake mod. I’ll certainly be touching base on the transmission story also, but so far so good!
Thank you. Would never ever buy a Hyundai or Kia after what I have read. Elantra N having engine failure at 18k miles, Sonata N Line also having transmission replacement, their cars catching on fire, telling us not to park it in the garage or else they will catch on fire….forget it, would much rather buy a Mazda.
Great review. I’ve been looking at all the reviews of the K5 and the Sonata N line. I’ve got a 2019 Honda Sport and have had zero issues with 18,000 miles. But, I’m looking for something a little quicker and more tech. I was getting close to getting the K5, but since hearing your review, maybe I need to look at something else, but what???
Thanks! The car is definitely quick, and other than this issue (still don’t have it back yet btw) the car has been quite solid. I’ve been doing my best to keep an eye out on FB and reddit groups to see if others with K5GT/N-Line have been experiencing similar failures. There have been a few, but not quite enough to make me believe that it’s an wide spread issue. I think collectively I’ve seen 5 owners report this issue, so I imagine we are a fairly small percentage of owners. Just a shame it takes this long to replace in current climate. I might get it back this week….
But what??? Lol.. search any car you want you will find ppl with problems. Even so called car companies that "don't break down" 🙄. I've personally owned a then new 2016 Corolla only for the engine to completely fail under 25k miles. Toyota replaced it but it was a hassle. Anyway does this mean all Toyota's will break down. Nope.
This was the only car on my radar. If I wanted something else I’d have to start research from ground up lol. After having it, I realized I do like a sporty feel. If I had to do the whole shopping experience over again, I’d be looking at the new Nissan Z and Toyota GR86.
This is such an out-of-the-blue, excellent discussion of the car and provides good commentary on the current state of car reviewing.
I have one with 18000 miles and is a great car, never gave me a problem.
Mine has 35k miles, only oil changes
Thx for a real life review. Like you said most car reviews arent practical, they only have a short amount of time with the car. You need time with a car to know how it really is. Your video has helped me make a decision
And your decision is?
I work at a Kia dealership and had the same issue on a k5 gt while doing a pre delivery inspection
Any idea if they found the root cause?
Wrong. 2022 acura ilx has an excellent DCT.
Loving the k5 2.5 2023 so far
500miles only
I was told at a young age never buy a brand new car the first 2 years of a redesign...the most problem happen the first few year espically if they get new engines or tech
I bought a 2022 GT K5 and had the car 3 weeks and had problems with the fuel pump , was a manufacture deffect, was in the shop for a week have it now so far so good.
My friend lost his BMW for 4 weeks cause the dealer couldn't fix the issue. All brands have issues.
What dealership did you buy your car ?
Car has been great."
He has a recent video of new mods done to the car.
I live in Washington and the dealer I'm getting mine from not only sells for sticker ( no additional markup) but actually knocked 350.00 off
How's the car shopping coming along? I'm also interested in a K5

My 2012 Optima SX has 274hp and is a blast to drive.
My 2019 Kia Forte EX's transmission died at 12,000 miles. It was in the dealer for 2-3 months. Winter storm also affected it shipping parts. Then a few hundred miles after that, Engine overheated due to some sort of cooling leak.
What are you driving now?
This was a good watch. I am just about to invest in the K5 GT !, which I test drove yesterday. I love the car and will try to buy it next month. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Just got a 2023 k5 gt. Have 2k miles on it now. I love it!!! And they sure do dominate the streets. It’s pretty fast for what it is, didn’t expect it to be that fast honestly haha. I get so many compliments on it too. Not so many k5 GTs around I guess you can say they’re rare or just in my area lol

I was looking at a non GT-1 package version of the K5 GT. This was great. Look forward to an update..
Enjoy!
Holy moly! I must pick the right Dealership that is going to correct issues or concerns after hearing your story
Yeah sadly
I get what you are saying but they are #1 in the world in a lot of quality categories
they are very good quality and reliability :O
I'm at 13k miles no issues
I want to let you know that Kia and Hyundai is having an issue with the 2.5 DCT a lot of customers are talking about replacing the transmission with less than 6000 miles. I had to do the same thing for my sonata n line. Just let you know they will replace it but I think the transmissions are on back order.
It took about three weeks for my car to get the transmission and replace it. And that was before the backboard probably a good month ago.
Dam wth I just got an n line too 🥲
What seems to be the issue?
Noooooooooo.
My Charger flooded out about 6 weeks ago. It was the car I drove for a job that I drive hundreds of miles a day. On pace for 79k miles this year.
The finalist cars for my search are
2021 Jetta GLI
2022 Kia Stinger
2021 K5 GT/Sonata N-Line
About two hours ago I decided I would take the GT/N-Line ahead of the Stinger because the DCT made a bigger difference with this engine.

I will probably make a follow up. I’m now at 15k miles and have had zero issues after the transmission fiasco. I love the car
Im glad you asked this question because I ordered mine and it will be here at the end of the month I’m in agreement a follow up would be excellent however I’m ecstatic that you got it back with no issues thats very satisfying. Im praying mine wont have any issues at all.

@@george.giannop not yet. Maybe this week, apparently the transmission should arrive at dealerships any time now. Last leg of its journey from Korea.
@@nathanscott1126 I'm getting one also. Same problem. Will take 3 weeks to get plus my car has been at the dealer since last week.
@@george.giannop you’re getting a transmission replacement too? What were your symptoms?
At least it's not the car itself' Dealer Problem, I love my K5 GT only thing I got to complain about is they should have never put first gear that high of RPMs, you don't have time to shift when your hands are on the steering wheel turning,
you can't make a turn in Stick mode quick enough if you want to get out of the way of traffic, you have to be quick enough to shift it in 2nd or once you start moving shift it straight to 2nd, think the problem is when you start pushing the gas and turning the traction control kicks in and downgrades the power so you don't burn out, so get out of first gear as soon as possible there's no need for it.
What subwoofers did you get and what did you think? Also where did you put them 😂
I have a 2017 Kia Optima 2.4L loving the car ever that has oil consumption problem. At 45.000 miles
What year Kia do you have?
Good review, but if you took the 1.6 and tuned it, the AWD and 220-250HP would be pretty quick.
From other sources (kia owners) the tunes are NOT cheap. Compared to lil honda tunes. 2500 for a good tune.
@@nobreaks3305 they can range that high but you don't need to spend that much. I got a jb4 for my sonata 2.0T for around $600ish dollars. Went from 16-18PSI to 20-22 PSI with fuel control to lean out afr in the upper rpms.

Just now getting damage from that taking care of also. Been quite an ordeal if my transmission goes out again I'm not sure what I'll do. Kia owes me money!!!!!!!
Wow. I’m so sorry to hear that. Was it also the “low transmission fluid” code?
Thanks man! I have actually had the car back for a year now. The 2nd transmission has over 10K miles with no issues. Car has been great.
What did you get b

@@fernsalas5870 took some getting used to. But living in Texas and having leather seats. It’s a must have.
I'm looking to get the EX premium package as well. How do you like the Bose sound system?
@@misterwoosah5862 it sounds better than the factory. Probably not as nice as what’s in the Stinger GT1
@@tsullivan8043 Thank you.
Wanna see that new review!!! Just got mine wanna see how's she's treating you!!
i dont know much about transmission or car parts but i was looking into the kia k5 gt line. how can i avoid this issue?
It would be under warranty but I don’t think the GT and GT Line have the same transmission.
It would be under warranty but I don’t think the GT and GT Line have the same transmission.
Sucks to hear that. Hope you get your car back soon.
What kind of subwoofer do you have in the car?
Thank you so much for the excellent review. I am so sorry about your car. I hope Kia fixes and you do not have any more issues. I started looking at the K5 GT but now after this video I am second guess. Good luck and thank you
Just bought a 2022 GT the first thing I noticed was the speakers, holy cow what a let down! My 2017 Niro had better bass than this! 😅 still a fun car to drive but definitely 6 very sad speakers installed.
I’m assuming you don’t have the Bose sound system installed lol
What year is your K5 GT? 🤔
Just bought a new 22 GT1 any update on yours
di you ever get the car back? inm waiting for mine to come in from the factory
Yep! Have driven about 3,000 miles on the replacement transmission, and have had no further issues.
There are some N-lines available but I like the look of the K5 over the Sonata.
i ordered a 2022 k5 GT with the GT1 package, ebony black with black interior. did you ever get yours in yet? mine should be here anytime now!
People that bought the accord or Camry aren't making videos like this for 15 years.
Thank you for this. I just bought the 22 GT Line and at 140 miles transmission is gone. Very disappointing when you are so excited about a vehicle
I’m sorry to hear that. I definitely know how you feel. Hopefully you get it back quick!
@@mildlyinstructionalcarwash4533 what color is your K5, I'm getting the Ebony Black with Chestnut seats
@@mildlyinstructionalcarwash4533
Build date is on the VIN sticker in the driver's door opening.
Ahh. Well car is still at the dealership, I will check it once I have it back
Sheeeeeshhhh just heard the transmission news
Is there any update on the car
Yep! Have driven about 3,000 miles on the replacement transmission, and have had no further issues.
Go ahead and get it! It’s not common!
But what???
Lol.. search any car you want you will find ppl with problems. Even so called car companies that "don't break down" 🙄.
I've personally owned a then new 2016 Corolla only for the engine to completely fail under 25k miles. Toyota replaced it but it was a hassle. Anyway does this mean all Toyota's will break down. Nope.
Anything other then Kia Hyundai Dodge Chrysler Fiat all piles of junk
@@TrazimDollare1982 the Dodge Challenger hellcat is for from a POS. It’s has more presents than whatever you drive. 😂😂😂
What’s the update? Also, what car did you wish you would have gotten?
This was the only car on my radar. If I wanted something else I’d have to start research from ground up lol. After having it, I realized I do like a sporty feel. If I had to do the whole shopping experience over again, I’d be looking at the new Nissan Z and Toyota GR86.
