Alpacas: Cute .. but totally untrainable!

  • The title is, of course, a come on!
    Banksy has been trained using the clicker (operant conditioning) method. The frequent rewarding seen on the video would not be necessary in "normal" circumstances, (and indeed would be a sign of weak/insecure training) but I was working under stressful conditions, namely with a cameraman present!
    Banksy is a suri alpaca. I do not know how he compares, in trainability, to other suris as I know of no other person eccentric enough to be doing it. But he is certainly very trainable ... if needing a great deal of repetition compared to llamas. Having said that, he is much less easily distracted (except by the camera) than llamas and would love to be trained all day.

    I disagree with the video title. I trained an alpaca to behave like an alpaca. It was a great success!

    It does the acts simply bcos of the treats. Humans wud do the same if they're caged or confined for the rest of their lives. And its all juz for a show
