Drafting with a preference makes for very interesting and educational content IMO. You articulate your thought processes very well and definitely don't deserve any hate.

We ended up w/ similar decks lately. Red is too deep that it can support 3 drafters. I just trophied R/b splashing for removals and harvester. Now, I’m enjoying my R/u heroic w/ raptors/artisan of forms/fallaji/treasure cruise, 4-0 currently. Heelcutter is the glue to the deck, and I’m surprised I’m still getting it late.

Yea heelcutter is such a house. Mono red/splash takes a big hit with rotation of extra sheet. Heavier into white will prolly be a better option going forward.

Yeah, Heelcutter will be a big miss for Red-x decks. Looking forward for your next take on what will work on this next bonus sheet, similar to ur mono-G take on FDN.

This is a good approach to talking about "forcing" as a draft strategy b/c it's a very misunderstood concept I think. Ryan Sacks was a recent guest on the Limited Level-Ups podcast and he illuminated why someone might want to have unusually strong preferences towards specific archetypes.
A good drafter will want to enter each draft with as much format knowledge as they can. And while it can be rewarding to find an "open lane," this in and of itself isn't the objective of the draft, and it isn't the same as drafting different colors from your neighbors. Whether it's because a color pair is deep and supports many distinct synergy packages (like UB in FDN), or because WotC gave the players bad information about how to actually succeed in a weak color pair (UR in BLB), you can be in an "open lane" despite being in "closed colors."

Staying "completely open" in draft feels like advice from a time when formats were less synergy-driven. Modern Limited rewards deep archetype knowledge and recognizing which strategies can thrive when contested or under drafted.
It’s surprising how many still cling to the idea of always staying open. While reacting to the table is still important, early commitment to under drafted strategies tends to yield better results imo - especially as data shifts quickly reshape which lanes are truly open.
      Thanks for your comment!
