Same Here! However, that’s not saying much being I was introduced to The Church as well as The Smiths and Decembrists - in 2005 by a coworkerr who had no way not to know I was obsessed with Robyn Hitchcock) r i’m not sure if it’s cuz there’s Such Similarities and overlap between Hitchcock and Kilby’s voices, styles and sensibility or perhaps because I became obsessed with Smiths/Morrissey as well as The Decemberists I was referred to within the same col weeks, But I never went any further then to have Milky Way and Reptile as staples of my music library. That was until last night when strange past came thru my feed so randomly and I saw ppl saying whah you did I thankfully clicked Then I was just enraptured by their 4 song WKRX Seattle performance off this album. I actually like that version better than this. You’re gonna wanna chk that out if you have not!
i think some of the 'older bands realized . . . . 'hey there's LOTS of room for new music , from us'' considering what's being put out the last few years
this song is a lovely and strange mood, unprecedented, like you get from a scene in an unexpectedly brilliant novel or film, something you won't forget, but seems like a memory even the first time...like a story you sense in a dream sad and exquisite
I’ve loved this band since the late 80’s. I can’t believe they are still churning out such beautiful music as this. I’m a huge fan and this has already made it to being one of my absolute favorites by them.
Just beautiful! “ Take your time, my friend, love finds you in the end” Love these Lads. So much work, effort, talent in this crew. They continue to make new music and bring it on the road. This is so good. 🙏🙏🙏
This really sounds fantastic. It sounds like a brand new band who’s been on the road and now can record from a greater deeper perspective. Kilbey sounds better than ever.
I am so glad that I did not like any of these songs when I first heard them. When I like it up front right away I usually throw the music away quickly. How can I say this is one of the BEST Church records when they are all superior? Well, this is now a top 5 of all time. Each song, riff, mood, tone digs into your soul. Not a waste of a second. Best playing since the two, you know who, left. I love the companion piece record as it grows on me. Steve... one day you will be recognized as the song writer you are... up there with Dylan, Bowie and Lennon/McCarthy. You might not have achieved the fame (or I know - the $$$$$) but you have the equal amount of TALENT. Thank you for all of the wonderful life affirming music.
The video for this is exceptionally well done. The multi layered effects, tv screens, amazing Asian woman and costume. Lighting effects, etc. One of the best Church videos ever. Hats off to all involved.
Your face in the press The bars and the stars upon your dress Dress casually And love eventually I'm starting to break Only so much that any one man can take Take your time, my friend And love will find you in the end So no more reproach In these cards and envelopes Don't bother crying I know you're lying Autumn leaves on the trees These tiny things mean so much to me So much I never told you And now I'll never hold you And the forecast is sleet On the street we used to meet We'd stop and eat It was so sweet So glad that I found you So no more reproach In these cards and envelopes Don't bother crying I know you're lying No more "See ya later" No more "It can wait" And all the time I was alone I was I was alone Alone
From the mailing list - Now, the story of “The Hypnogogue” extends with a newly-released deluxe edition. With six added tracks, the deluxe package includes the recently released single and video “Realm of Minor Angels” which bassist/vocalist/founder Steve Kilbey cites as “without doubt one of my favorite singles The Church has ever released.”
The 'Eros Zeta and The Perfumed Guitars' CD will be released worldwide on 29 March 2024. It looks like it contains the 6 tracks that were added to The Hypnogogue (deluxe) plus another 9 tracks
This may be the most beautiful song by The Church I've heard, and that's saying a lot since I've been a fan since 1985. Looking forward to hearing it when I see them Saturday in Chandler, Arizona.
Yes, but did you expect anything less? These guys are amazing. How many years into the career? How many iterations hit the band the band is not just Steve. Steve is the nucleus, but he always has the most amazing electrons playing around him. They are amazing, the church forever.
Steve's vocal delivery on this song reminds me a lot of Paul Banks of Interpol. Every time I listen to this song, there are parts where it sounds like a Church/Interpol collaboration.
Hmm, I was hoping for more. This really does sound like a Steve Kilbey solo record. I may still see them this fall, but am not excited by what I'm hearing.
Take the plunge and go to the concert. I caught it twice earlier this year (in Australia); this latest line up breathes new life into the older Church material. Concert featured many deep cuts into the back catalogue as well as the new album.
I agree...trying to like it but it's not going too far. I like the layering and the style though. I wish they would release more songs from the upcoming album so I can make a better decision.
Hats off to The Church - still wonderful after all these years!
His voice is still magical.
Can’t mistake his voice anywhere.
Incredible track from a band with nothing left to prove.
Gotta say….this is mighty close for my favourite Church song ever….

Impossible : too many greats songs !!!

The Church never stopped. That said, this record is especially strong.
this song is a lovely and strange mood, unprecedented, like you get from a scene in an unexpectedly brilliant novel or film, something you won't forget, but seems like a memory even the first time...like a story you sense in a dream sad and exquisite

Beautiful song. Love the sound.
The Church is amazing live and Steve Kilbey is still magical and captivating.
this is a great song ... what a beautiful melancholic atmosphere ... totally love it
Happy to hear that there is new material coming from one of my favorite bands of all time!
Wish Marty was still in the band, but this is awesome
This really sounds fantastic. It sounds like a brand new band who’s been on the road and now can record from a greater deeper perspective. Kilbey sounds better than ever.
The current lineup is firing on all cylinders. 😎
This new song, another timeless moment of sonic majesty from one of the very best!
A new classic.
As are all of their songs.

I would not had bet on this 40 years ago...
Never bet but love good music and this is...
I'm 50. Always loved this band. If I had the money I'd buy MTV and fix that channel & this would be the first video.
such a genius video. Makes me so happy to see Cain doing what he does best..
Another lovely song on this great album.
This song should be # 1.
The video for this is exceptionally well done. The multi layered effects, tv screens, amazing Asian woman and costume. Lighting effects, etc. One of the best Church videos ever. Hats off to all involved.
What a beautiful song.
La chanson du jour de ce jeudi par The Church. Joyeux anniversaire à Jesse Courchesne, Jean Louis Bonnefous et à ceux qui sont nés un 15 février
💯
Love it. Really liked the last album but this song is up there with the best...
This should have been on the album. Classic church.
Now it is on the new album, Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars
amazing , still my best band ever :)
I liked the voice combo, almost like Bowie would sing it. Great song.
I took this one right to the gut😭
Your face in the press
The bars and the stars upon your dress
Dress casually
And love eventually
I'm starting to break
Only so much that any one man can take
Take your time, my friend
And love will find you in the end
So no more reproach
In these cards and envelopes
Don't bother crying
I know you're lying
Autumn leaves on the trees
These tiny things mean so much to me
So much I never told you
And now I'll never hold you
And the forecast is sleet
On the street we used to meet
We'd stop and eat
It was so sweet
So glad that I found you
So no more reproach
In these cards and envelopes
Don't bother crying
I know you're lying
No more "See ya later"
No more "It can wait"
And all the time
I was alone
I was
I was alone
Alone
And, did anyone else say, “amazing lyrics as well, courtesy of Mr. Kilbey?”

Can't say enough..thank you for your music.
Great song!
Unexpectedly good, ! Dream pop style. A little shoegaze, Cure-esk.
Agreed! His voice in this one kind of reminds me of Disintegration. Hopeless.
Correct the cure did borrow from the church quite often
