Kid that plays Ms.Marvel deserves better projects, she’s crushing that role and making the MCU feel new and fun again. Also love that she texted Feige to yell at him about some of the decisions they’ve been making
I don't get it man... She should've had a team-up with Shang-Chi already, her own series teases The Ten Rings being involved with her bracelet and He already met Captain Marvel in the post-credits scene of his own film to discuss the very origin of his dad's mystical rings! I genuinely thought they were going to tie both with The Eternals' cliffhanger and lead into some gargantuan event involving Galactus and the Silver Surfer, with the appearance of a Super Skrull using the Fantastic Four's abilities as an Ultron-esque Villain for a new Avengers ensemble lead by Sam's Captain America... Just baffling that The Marvels and Thunderbolts ARE the team-up movies of the last five years in the MCU!
It’s funny, cuz her character is a teenager AND a superhero fangirl so she’s supposed to be like this “conduit” for the average audience member but instead it feels she’s TRYING TO COUNTERACT all of OUR COLLECTIVE SUPERHERO/MCU FATIGUE and act a bit as a “hype man” or cheerleader. And GOD BLESS HER, she’s TRYING her damndest.
Thank you for that comment at the end, where Julian, the guy with the glasses says that we need to stop comparing Marvel movies to such a low bar, by saying "well...at least it is better than the first movie" (37:16 - 38:00) . He is absolutely correct. Marvel has the budget and the man power to do exceptional work, but if we, as the viewer, are accepting of mediocrity, that is all we are going to get.
That's not just marvels movies tho. Look at all those fans that keep defending movies like Five Nights at Freddie's or the Fast and Furious. I have no problem with people liking those movies but don't start acting like you aren't going to keep getting mediocre movies if you keep paying for it.
Especially when Marvel has put out great stuff before, even during this Multiverse Saga despite what some people think. No Way Home, Wakanda Forever, Werewolf by Night, Shang Chi, Wandavision, this year with Guardians 3 and Loki S1 & S2. If some people liked The Marvels, that’s awesome, but I hope Marvel learn from their mistakes and get better and it seems like doing damage control now with fixing some upcoming projects.
I think the problem here are people that have allowed these films to be viewed out of context. These are Hollywood summer blockbusters. We're talking about Independence Day, Battleship, Kong Skull Island, Wild Wild West, etc etc. Anything above a straightforward popcorn flick is to be applauded. Every flick yal act like the MCU is supposed to be turning out cinema defining films. Regardless of the budget, what's the mission? To make money. You do that by expanding the brand and/or giving the largest amount of people what they want. It seems the Marvel's fits the latter...it continues to expand the brand. I've seen many people who've barely watched MCU films say they enjoyed it. So the next big tent pole project that comes, they are more willing to pay.
Even then he contradicts himself. The movie is far from good yet he goes for high rental. This movie has more in common with the Josstice League than anything Marvel
@@maskedman5657 That is true. This tendency to measure by such a low bar isn't just confined to the MCU. It just seems more apparent with this franchise in that, compared to other properties, there is more money behind it, and it is therefore more disappointing when they can't produce consistently exceptional results.
The thing is when it comes to Carol Danvers, Brie Larson actually plays her exactly as Cap is written in the comics. Very fun, yet stern, and a very commanding presence. That’s something you don’t get if you don’t read the comics fr. All of these ladies, especially Iman played their roles exactly to type and that’s beautiful to see as an actual comic nerd. This was a great film to me. I hope it does well at the box office.
This is definitely the case bc I agree. However, those characters especially Captain Marvel is not written well and is not a popular comic no matter how much they try to push them. They don't sell well bc they're not written well. Which is how I knew already how that was going to translate to film.
So if it was overly negative or overly positive that means they’re not being honest? If they truly felt one way strongly about the movie, then who are you to say whether or not they’re being honest?
My relationship with Marvel has been complicated these days. I try to look at the MCU franchise as I do with the comics, where I only pay attention to the characters I love, like Spider-Man and Daredevil. However, it feels like Marvel has no idea what they're doing to their characters. The older movies were hit-or-miss, too, but at least it all led up to Thanos and the Infinity Stones.
@@Omar-wq9dzi think that plan is still in effect… there’s just so much more content/entries. For every solid/great one, you have a misfire. When there’s more entries to digest, you feel those misfires more
Yeah I would go insane if I didn't pick and choose like I do with the comics. Not everything being published at one time is good, in fact there's only ever a handful that are worth reading.
Honestly if this movie proved anything I’m starting to get tired of superhero discourse online in general, I’m not tired of the genre itself, but just talking about it with people and it’s not just with Marvel, DC, even The Boys and Invincible, cause it’s the same old conversation over and over again. “Oh is Marvel dead? Oh is Marvel back? Does superhero fatigue exist or we’re just tired of mediocre content?” And also the toxicity in the fandoms and the “IT’S WOKE!” crowd, I’ve just grown jaded towards it at this point.
@TheGOAT-hj6sl Why would I pretend to like a character who's comics I've read and bought and who's show I genuinely enjoyed? If you don't like her or care, that's on you, little man.
@@mr.goblin6039 he’s playing a character, like a wrestler that turned heel. He’s pretending to be one of those insane idiots that screams about wokeness and is too dumb to interpret information. It’s a good act and he’s dedicated to it.
Doing an accent impersonation isnt cancel material. It's what you say that matters. Nobody gets upset when people imitate French, German, British or American Southern or New England accents... it should be no different for Indian, Japanese or whatever. If you do a good impersonation and don't put a culture down, thats all that matters.
@@beezusHrist And the "stereotype" of the overbearing immigrant (Pakistani in this case) mother in the US is nearly universally true and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Many immigrants come to the US to give their children a better shot at life. They sacrifice a lot to do this. Being overbearing is a natural part of that. It is in no way a negative thing from a broader cultural perspective.
I think it’s going to have to tank hard, like struggle to make $200M world wide hard or worse. The brand label alone will probably make them that much world wide. The Marvels post credit scene and the end of Loki suggests they still want to lean into multiverse stories, and a seismic shift to their bottom-line will likely be necessary.
Thanks for the review, Double Toasted! I love Marvel Comics and the MCU. They are my escape. I’ll see the Marvels and review it for myself. All three women have chemistry on screen. I might be in the minority here, but I still love and support the MCU. I grew up with the comics and characters.😊🤓⚡️
I just gotta say that when you showed the clip of Ms Marvel using her powers defending an attack and gets zapped in front of Nick Fury and she looks up at him and smiles and says hi, instantly made me smile. Kamala Khan is just a delight to watch portraying this comic book superhero. Especially because of Ms Marvel I gotta see this movie. Oh and I know it will make me chuckle my ass off. And away I go.
Yea, he very quickly said the villain was boring. Usually the main issue in MCU films. I know people say Ant man 3 was bad but 2 had an awful villain. To the point I wouldn’t even call ghost a villain. Felt like she did nothing.
As someone who has been reading the comic books for years, I'll say that these latest movies and shows have not felt like they are for the fans. Maybe the fans they made for the tv universe but I never understood how we have stories written in the books but yet it is so hard for these studios to take and adapt those stories for new fans and not drop the ball completely every time.
They are exactly like the big comic stories are. You get a few episodes of build up, then you get hit with the big event that spans like 3 or more issues.
@@cmike123 Right, but the MCU is JUST the big stories, so you never get the small and steady character development that makes the comic characters so beloved. Instead these people don't seem to exist at all between movies, and when we see Carol next she's suddenly telling us about some extra tragic backstory that happened off-screen. It's ridiculous.
@@peacemaster8117 that is true to an extent. But do you think the Marvel exhaustion would accelerate or go away if they focused on the connective tissue? If we are being honest, this is connective tissue for another larger story that you KNOW is coming. There is going to be a multiversal attack from the Council of Kangs, and the MCU needs to establish ways of fighting against them. So far, we have Dr. Strange being able to traverse the multiverse with himself or with aid from Clea. We have something going on with the 10 Rings that Shang Chi has. Wanda can skin-walk if she is still alive and can be redeemed. Loki can will himself through Space and Time now. Ant Man may be able to utilize the Quantum Realm to travel between worlds (or something of the like). Now you have Spectrum in a universe with the Xmen AND Kamala's djinn heritage allows her to control the Quantum Bands without exploding. That is all very important world building that they have laid down in the past year and a half. Before you answer. I will point out that the Disney+ shows are doing exactly what you are saying the MCU should do, but too many people feel like it is homework.
Cant stand the narrative of men not wanting to see women in these roles. Is Barbie not the most successful film this year? Was Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel not successful? People need to come up with another argument.
Genuinely shocked by how much I enjoyed this project, beats out Multiverse Of Madness and on par with Shang-Chi imo - I can barely believe it myself, the ad campaign was tragic
That's exactly where I put it too!! Not quite up there with GOTG3 or NWH but a step below on the same level with Shang-Chi in my opinion. Just a fun movie!
😂😂😂😂 For a moment, I thought Tessa Thompson was Agent M from MIB International when she came on screen. Her character was wearing a black suit and tie while helping a group of space alien refugees get to Earth, so... 🤷🤷🤷
I genuienly had a blast with this one. The MCU has been hit or miss for me lately with more misses than hits, but this was actually one I was really anticipating because I really do love Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel and it didn’t disappoint. Is it high art?? Absolutely not. It’s not even a very good movie on like a subjective level, but I had fun, the jokes and emotional moments all landed for me and I felt the three leads had great chemistry. Also, the scene with all the kittens on the space station was the hardest I’ve laughed at a movie in *ages*. I absolutely get why it didn’t work for a lot of people, but if the concept is at all interesting to you and you like the characters, I’d say it’s at least a very light matinee or wait until it’s on streaming to check it out
@@GEMINIEARTHWALKER the irony is that people pretend that every MCU film in phases 1-3 where monumental when they also released a lot of fun mid-tier movies during that era. I didn't love the first Captain America or Thor's first two films. Iron Man 3 was pretty mid. The payoff was so great that we look back on a lot of those movies with rose-tinted glasses.
@@atlien1988 I agree, there are very few monumental MCU films. Most are mid-tier, I'd put Infinity War, Endgame, Winter Soldier, Civil-War, Ironman, and Guardians of The Galaxy vol 1 as top-tier MCU.
For the review of The Marvels, Korey got some assistance from The Julians 😂 As for this movie, I agree that Iman Velani did have the best energy here, and she also wrote the current run of Ms Marvel comic, talk about went full ahead with the character
This movie has issues but with that being said I absolutely loved it. It’s just the right amount of fun I needed. The MCU “fanboys” are gonna hate it but I’m stoked to see it again
I liked this movie. And it's funny that most TH-cam channels don't. Audience score was 85, 86 percent this morning. It's climbing in audience score. I'm happy for them if the fans like it
@@terrencewilliams4355 The cope is real. The movie's projections are terrible and so was the test screenings. Sorry but no amount of bought fake reviews will change that. Funny how now of all times you people pretend to care more about the audience score than the critic score ( 60%) 🤡
@@terrencewilliams4355Now granted some people didn’t like for other reasons that’s not “It’s woke garbage!” Those types of reviews, I immediately ignore and don’t take seriously at all. But some reviewers do have genuine criticisms.
Why are we constantly pushing the narrative that the dislike for this property is due to sexism & misogyny?!!! The fact is that this character isn't liked, period! Her comic has been canceled numerous times, but she's constantly being pushed to the forefront. Captain Marvel is the comic version of John Cena. But people like Cena now.
I'm so tired of people being surprised or confused when they see Carol Danvers in any MCU movie and the character doesn't work. The character has never worked in the comics or MCU because she is a bad character. It has nothing to do with Brie Larsen. Carol Danvers sucks and has ALWAYS sucked. And that Monica Rambeau in the MCU is NOT Monica Rambeau. They have changed so much about her that she is a shell of a character compared to the great character she has always been in the comics. I'm tired of people taking rotten bread and thinking that just because you toast it and throw jelly on it, it changes the fact that it was already rotten bread.
Yeah, Marvel's been trying to push Captain Marvel hard even before she joined the MCU and it just never sticks. She's just not that interesting of a character.
I saw the movie yesterday and really liked it. Good acting, sympathetic characters (Kamalas geek-outs a adorable), great visuals (I absolutely recocommend the 3D experience) and an interesting story about guilt and revenge. My only small issue is that one or two scenes felt they end a little bit permaturely but that's it. Overall it is fun, and we can need that right now. (I will post this review on other channels that I subscribed to)
I'm glad you think all that worked. Glad you enjoyed it. But my God this movie has alot of issues that you say is good. Overall if all this is amazing to you then please go crazy for this stuff haha
I was rooting for the movie, but end of the day, it just wasn’t for me. I love all 3 main characters. I was already a Ms Marvel fan, enjoyed Monica in “WandaVision”, and actually liked Carol a lot more in this flick than her previous appearances. The trio’s character dynamics and how they used their powers in tandem were all really well done to me. I also loved Kamala’s family. They’re just so damn charming and relatable to me as someone who comes from an overbearing immigrant family. For me though, the problem was the story and script. They deserved way better than this. There was no sense of urgency to the plot, or sense of the stakes in regards to what Dar-Ben was after and why. The movie never really stops to get us to care about what’s going on. Everything seemed rushed, just to get from one plot point/location to the next. In a better movie, the musical planet (which is from the comics) and the flerkin subplot could’ve been handled much better, but they really do just stop the movie dead and undermine the main storyline. The movie really felt like it was produced by committee; trying to hit certain trope and formula check marks that the MCU needs to hit. I’ll admit the setup for future stories and characters was cool at the end, but it doesn’t make up for what came before. It really didn’t help that when I got home, I put on the “Loki” finale, saw how gripping it was, and was like: “Okay, wow Marvel. This is what you guys are capable of when you have a GOOD STORY to tell, and have it mean something.” This movie was just not the movie the franchise needs right now, given all the criticisms and BTS noise. This was one of the last projects under the Chapek management, so I do expect to see improvements moving forward. For as much as I’ve defended phase 4 and 5, even I had to admit this movie simply wasn’t it. The Marvels as characters deserved way better than this movie.
Bro, I felt the same way as you did! I did enjoy the movie more than I would have thought, but I wouldn’t see it again. I actually didn’t like Kamala but I did enjoy her family. The facial expressions of the mom lol.
You basically hit it on the head! I’m glad other people enjoyed it, I wanted to like it myself, but you can feel the studio patched it all up and rushed it out when this movie should’ve been longer to give more time fleshing these characters out instead of setting up what’s to come.
@@lachancla3723Lol I might’ve sounded like i harped on her family a bit, but during the movie i was looking at my wife, and we were like: “we’re gonna be just like them one day” lol
@@gcolbyp yeah man, I’ve seen such a divided reaction. On TH-cam, more people I follow didn’t like it. On social media, more people I follow liked it. My wife really enjoyed it and thought I was being too critical. But we get home and watch “Loki”, she was like: “Okay I kinda see what yourse saying”…. But they are two completely different projects. I wish the movie was longer, so that certain things could get fleshed out more. While setups for future storylines were cool, it shouldn’t be the best part of ur movie; it should be the icing on the cake. For as much as I still ride for the MCU and defend it, this movie (more than any project) really personified what I feel every MCU-hater/critic thinks a standard MCU project is from a negative standpoint. We’ve seen the MCU be better than this. It’s a shame that these 3’actresses/characters got this movie because they deserve so much better.
@@thedefinitionisthisTo quote Coy Jandreau from his review, it’s basically the movie that people who hate superhero movies think all superhero movies are from their perspective. It’s the movie where it would prove Scorsese’s point about these films being nothing but theme park rides. Where as Guardians 3 felt like the opposite. And you’re right I literally watched Loki S2 after I got home last night from the movie and it made me go, “Marvel do more like this.” Where it put character first, then set up later. And shows they can still be really good, if they focus on the quality which I hope so.
It was more suited for kids to have fun with. Was it great? Of course not but it was kinda fun. Teyonah whew the adult in me was like damn it’s some cakes in that superhero fit. Between her and Jaz Sinclair they gonna have to have a superhero team up cake-off.
The more I think about it, I liked it. No Cap, my main gripe is the costumes looking cheap and I’m sick of the forced comedy. And I wish the last fight went on longer, Dar-Benn was putting in that work for a minute. Her with the hammer, quantum ban and the Marvels teleporting around was pretty cool.
You’re telling me NWH told a better story about 3 super similar heroes when 2 only showed up in the final act, than a movie doing the same thing but the movie has all 3 the whole time with a twist
spider-man is literally the most popular marvel super hero who was been on film for decades. all 3 spider-man series have their die hard fans it was an event to see those 3 guys on screen together. all 3 of the ladies are c-listers at best Monica is probably even a D-lister if I'm being honest. no one cared about seeing Captain Marvel meet 2 characters from Dinsney+ shows that are only a few years old. now if she teamed up with like Thor or the Hulk people might have actually been exited for this one. but god forbid a man actually help this movie out
@@evenhartwick4422 *now if she teamed up with like Thor or the Hulk people might have actually been exited for this one.* Considering how many people complained about the treatment of the Hulk in She-Hulk, maybe not.
Never understood this. If this is all you watch...then sure maybe. But hundreds of movies come out a year...and there are maybe 6 SH movies a year. This is like saying I'm tired of action movies or romcoms...it's a genre with a diverse array of characters and themes. Plenty of other films come out to balance the box office.
You forgot about madame web. I wanna see that because of the possibilities of the original spiderverse that was ran by Madame Web. And the other spider women. If they’re actually gonna have them suit up and fight. Sony might f-- it up.
If you have to go into a movie with low expectations in order to enjoy it, it’s a bad movie. If you have to turn your brain off to enjoy a movie, it’s a bad movie. If you have to stop asking questions, and just consume the content to enjoy it, it’s bad movie.
This felt like a more serious remake of Spaceballs to me: Villain who wants to steal natural resources from other planets, a ship blowing up without enough escape pods. Change my mind!
I enjoyed the action, chemistry between the three, and Kamala Khan's presence. Unfortunately it's forgettable movie with questionable decisions. If you thought Nick losing his eye to a cat was stupid? They go even further with stupidity in this one.
Watched the movie today and this is a movie I will own. For my daughter. It's an easy non offensive watch that my daughter will enjoy and I can appreciate that.
All these films Marvel have been doing like Eternals, Thunderbolts and Captain America 4 (without Chris Evans), as well as making a Black Widow film far too late, have just been so mediocre that they really ought to be focusing on the characters fans really want to sww more such as Deadpool 3, X-men abd the Fantastic 4.
What's funny, I took several 8-14-year-old girls to the movie and they loved it. Oddly enough, they loved the dance/singing the most. I think the issue with Marvel movies, not all movies are for all audiences.
This is recency bias. You go back and watch those first dozen or so films and only a quarter of them were great...they don't age well, and work best in the context of the larger project of phase 1 - 3. The MCU now is actually quite better. Not great...and that's fine.
@@mickiemalloriebecause it's been there and done that. You can't say "recency bias" when this is movie #30-ish. They have 30+ movies to see what works and what doesn't. It's just the same formulaic stuff over and over again, and not the good kind.
@@VF5 you're missing the point. I'm saying exactly what you're saying. That this film has been done before and it's no different than earlier films. But the difference is that I don't hold those past films in high regard. 70% of them are okay to good. Yal acting like Avengers and Iron Man were some five star film making. To pretend like they are anything more is clearly bias.
@@mickiemallorieI have to agree with you to a point. I've always picked what stories I wanted to see and really nothing caught my attention until Winter Soldier. Most movies in the first two phases were ok at best BUT they didn't have an agenda either. It took the Russo brothers to make me interested bc I did not see what was so special about the first Avengers other than every boy's wet dreams coming true onscreen. With all of them coming together finally.
I’m mostly there with you guys. It’s High Rental, it’s not awful, I definitely understand if someone told me they had fun with it as there’s some funny moments and some cool fight choreography. I think the dynamic between the main leads is the best part of the movie. Obviously Iman Vellani is the best part, she’s immensely charming, but I disagree with you guys on Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, I liked them in the movie and they did the best with what they’re given. And I actually think Larson is better here than in the first Captain Marvel, she seems to have more fun here and bring a lot of herself in the role. They’re honestly not the problem, and neither is Nia DaCosta. I kind of hate that this is just going to be more ammo toward the douchebags who were going to hate it anyway. The movie just feels all over the place with the plot, lackluster villain (Not the actress’s fault, which I found out she’s Tom Hiddleston’s fiancé, just they didn’t give her a compelling character and there was potential there), scenes of solid character moments get resolved way too quick and don’t get explore enough, and it felt like a movie was missing like we’re watching Captain Marvel 3, but we miss the 2nd one. It feels like the studio tampered with it and patched it up during post production and rushed it out quick. And yeah that musical planet was like “what the fuck are we doing?”, that was the one Love and Thunder moment of the movie. I feel bad because I was rooting for this movie and while I wasn’t expecting anything amazing, I was hoping for at least a good time, and it seems like that’s what some people got, which good for them, I expect better from Marvel at this point (Hell even during this Multiverse Saga, this year with Guardians 3 and Loki S2). I just want to get out of this fucking “Chapek” era of Marvel and hoping they get back on track and it seems like they’re listening to the criticisms and making sure the content is good, but they need to get out of this slump quick cause this movie ain’t helping their image. The ending & mid credit scenes were cool though, they got me curious for what’s to come.
@@oneskillpoint4669I think it’s more on the Marvel/Disney than Nia DaCosta. Cause the best part of the movie is when the 3 leads are bouncing off each other and that feels like DaCosta. Everything else feels like the studio rushed it out.
The movie wasn't rushed. It got delayed several times. At some point, they realize they've spent too much on this movie and just want to get it out and get it over with.
Sometimes I'm fine with Villans being bad just for the sake of being bad. I don't always need to relate, understand, or emphasize with the bad guy, I care more you developed the story and heroes over someone I'm not suppose to like or have negative feelings towards.
Not every hero needs to be relatable or understandable. Just try your best not to make them cartoony. I always reference John Doe from Se7en. He's not relatable but he's not boring either.
Lol, "Brie Larson doesn't have any personality" It's the same exact thing people were saying about her in the first movie. Anyone care to remember what was said about anyone who had that criticism? People didn't like the first movie and were turned off to this movie due to "sexism". People aren't going to see this movie because Brie Larson has no personality and brings nothing interesting to Carol Danvers. Nevermind that she's one of the most despised characters in the comics, but they did literally nothing to make the character likable in the MCU.
100% Agree. That's my main issue with Captain Marvel. It's not Brie's fault. She's a good actress but she doesn't fit. I believe this was a miscast for the character.
The miss marvel show is actually fun and charming, people ignored the disney plus shows because they aren't the same as ironman movies, but also complain about a marvel formula, but also don't like wandavision because it breaks formula... People just need to watch without twitter talking points. My favorite shows are the netflix daredevil series and the boys, but can still appreciate and enjoy miss marvel
I forgot this movie was coming out, I'll try to see it next weekend. But the reason I wrote this is, probably like myself, most people have forgotten about this movie and that'll definitely effect the box office opening
Movie was fun as hell and a good time lol. It has it's problems with the villain and some plot points not being tied up but it's a fun watch. Solid 7.5/10 movie.
I think it’s time to admit that we need checks and balances back at Marvel. Yes Iman Vellani is a treasure but again Retroblasting sums up Marvel and Disneys woes perfectly.
I don't understand why ppl are expecting villains (other than Kang) to be like Thanos, a villain that was built up across an entire saga. Julian said villain of the week, well yeah...she's probably only meant for this one film only. She's not meant to be a Thanos-level threat or even complexity. However, I will admit she could have been written better, but stop expecting every Marvel villain to be like Thanos.
@@MM-hf6om I agree, I do love Hela. But honestly, that has a lot to do with how good Cate Blanchett is. On paper, Hela is okay, but Cate is so good and charismatic, she made that character so fun to watch. She's like classic Disney evil villain, hell she's goddamn Maleficent lol
As much as I've enjoyes this movie, one thing's been confirmed to me... They NEED to RECAST Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Brie's not an awful actress..no way anywhere near as bad as gal gadot. but she seems like she just couldn't figure out who this character is..and what makes her interesting..appealing to the audience. Her performance is just dull. It's also possible that there hasn't been any writers who can crack the character. As I was watching the movie, I kept thinking how Chuck's Yvonne Strahovski would've done more justice to the role. It seems just more fitting for her. On Teyonah as Monica.. She serviced the part quite well..but, she too I just found not the best choice for the role. On the other hand, Iman as Kamala is the the MVP of the movie. And just for her, I'm looking forward to the Young Avengers she's gathering. The villain's a BORE.. Malekith 2.0. Jackson's Fury, while consistent to the version in Captain Marvel, does feel rather long in the tooth. This Fury is rather slow, not too bright and cery dependent, not so resourceful...and always theblast one to know things, ninstead of being a cupla steps in front of everyone...just like the Nick Fury in the Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America movies.
Loved this movie, the fight sequences and chemistry were off the charts! Also, just realized the grill is because Captain Marvel dropped a roof on her head.😬
Feels like that flashback should’ve been the first scene so we get some depth to Dar-Benn. Show her having to be pieced back together through a grueling surgery because Carol inadvertently/purposely attacked and destroyed her home and hurt innocent people in the process. And I mean innocent in the sense that going to war - you always view your side as “good” and you’re just doing your part. Or you’re just a civilian on the land where there’s a war. Anyways, this wasn’t as bad as people had been saying. I hate that they went back and did the additional post-credit scene for something we won’t be getting for YEARS. To me, that takes the weight of that moment away. Very cheap and unearned. People should go check this out, though.
@@HorrorbleCWalt The film is in such an insane rush to get through its story it never takes the time to explain basic stuff like what Carol actually did, how it affected the Skrull, whether she knew or tried to fix it. All we're told is that she killed a giant head and that caused a civil war which made their sun die, and then we're suddenly rushing on to the next inane exposition dump. It's no way to make a movie.

Kamala and her family are probably some of the best characters in the MCU right now, because they actually feel like a REAL HUMAN TOUCHPOINT for the audience.
It's just simple fact shows like the boys and invincible even movie like Logan made the superhero genre more mature marvel shows and movies are basically live action kids cartoons now
Korey was twisting and turning to try not to say this movie stinks. How is the cat and Ms. Marvels mom the two best parts of the movie? That’s a clear sign it’s trash.
Dar Ben is the worst MCU villain by a mile. She was miscast, she's making goofy faces all the time, she's not intimidatingor a threat to Carol, her wardrobe doesn't fit and she randomly has Ronan's hammer even though it was destroyed and she's not a Kree Accuser. Her plan is also horrible because transplanting massive amounts of resources would destroy her planet's ecosystem and transplanting an entire star would destroy her planet's star system. The Kree are an intergalactic empire, they have access to trillions of plantes that they could have migrated to or slowly taken resources from. After 30 years, this is the best plan she could come up with? Who elected her as leader of the Kree and do they not have any scientists in this intergalactic empire?
The movies are made for fans, but when they are letting the fans down there isn't anyone left to pick up the slack. This movie had all the same problems Thor Love and Thunder had but without Chris Hemsworth to carry it
I really would have loved to see more backstory on Dar-Benn... But marvel has a habit of giving their villains good bones, with no meat. And that is really the only thing I find frustrating about their movies
This should have been Kamala's movie. Start out with her then her powers get entangled with Monica. Her and Monica meet, there's a dynamic there with one worshipping Carol and the other feeling betrayed by her. Then later Carol's power should become entangled. Then we find out "the Annihilator" stuff out and Monica and Kamala have to decide if Carol really is a hero or not. I shouldn't been able to come up with a better movie in 5 minutes.
Kid that plays Ms.Marvel deserves better projects, she’s crushing that role and making the MCU feel new and fun again. Also love that she texted Feige to yell at him about some of the decisions they’ve been making
Agreed!
You believe that 😂 stuuu
I cant tell if you are joking or not
I just hope Iman Vellani gets more projects worthy of her energy...

There was a plan, even when films from earlier phases were hit or miss. Now, it seems like the Star Wars sequel trilogy where no plan is made
They are wasting Kang, more promising villain than Thanos.

Aww I wanted to hear what Martin had to say
I just gotta say that when you showed the clip of Ms Marvel using her powers defending an attack and gets zapped in front of Nick Fury and she looks up at him and smiles and says hi, instantly made me smile. Kamala Khan is just a delight to watch portraying this comic book superhero. Especially because of Ms Marvel I gotta see this movie. Oh and I know it will make me chuckle my ass off. And away I go.
Please keep Julian around for these reviews. He keeps it real every single time.
He's the best person on the show
Yea, he very quickly said the villain was boring.

I feel like Dar-Benn is acting like Ronan the Accuser from the first Guardians movie. Probably explains why we have a weak villain in The Marvels.
This is what you guys are capable of when you have a GOOD STORY to tell, and have it mean something.”
This movie was just not the movie the franchise needs right now, given all the criticisms and BTS noise.

And you’re right I literally watched Loki S2 after I got home last night from the movie and it made me go, “Marvel do more like this.” Where it put character first, then set up later. And shows they can still be really good, if they focus on the quality which I hope so.

This is recency bias. You go back and watch those first dozen or so films and only a quarter of them were great...they don't age well, and work best in the context of the larger project of phase 1 - 3. The MCU now is actually quite better. Not great...and that's fine.

Chapek era ... Nailed it
Jesus are you an author?, you wrote a page of a book lol.
@@billcipher3946Just giving my thoughts on the movie, that’s all
The movie wasn't rushed. It got delayed several times. At some point, they realize they've spent too much on this movie and just want to get it out and get it over with.
How amateurs write villains: "I'm bad!!"
How professionals write villains: "I'm bad...but I'm also kinda sad."
What’s the difference 😅between
Sometimes I'm fine with Villans being bad just for the sake of being bad. I don't always need to relate, understand, or emphasize with the bad guy, I care more you developed the story and heroes over someone I'm not suppose to like or have negative feelings towards.
Big Jack Horner would beg to differ.
Not every hero needs to be relatable or understandable. Just try your best not to make them cartoony. I always reference John Doe from Se7en. He's not relatable but he's not boring either.
A professional writes the villain as, ‘Actually, I’m the hero.’
That’s why characters like Thanos or Dr Doom work so well.
Lol, "Brie Larson doesn't have any personality"
It's the same exact thing people were saying about her in the first movie.
Its alright could of been better
😂 when Korey said she had bullets in her teeth, instantly think of Ace Ventura when Ace caught a bullet with his.
I thought of riff raff and Lil Jon 😂 YEAHHH!?
I forgot this movie was coming out, I'll try to see it next weekend. But the reason I wrote this is, probably like myself, most people have forgotten about this movie and that'll definitely effect the box office opening
That Dollar Tree Ronan the Accuser's costume needed a big clock necklace to go with her grill.
Movie was fun as hell and a good time lol. It has it's problems with the villain and some plot points not being tied up but it's a fun watch.
Solid 7.5/10 movie.
Love you guys! Also Where’s Martin?
I think it’s time to admit that we need checks and balances back at Marvel. Yes Iman Vellani is a treasure but again Retroblasting sums up Marvel and Disneys woes perfectly.
I don't understand why ppl are expecting villains (other than Kang) to be like Thanos, a villain that was built up across an entire saga. Julian said villain of the week, well yeah...she's probably only meant for this one film only. She's not meant to be a Thanos-level threat or even complexity. However, I will admit she could have been written better, but stop expecting every Marvel villain to be like Thanos.
Doesn't have to be thanos but at least be hela level
@@MM-hf6om I agree, I do love Hela. But honestly, that has a lot to do with how good Cate Blanchett is. On paper, Hela is okay, but Cate is so good and charismatic, she made that character so fun to watch. She's like classic Disney evil villain, hell she's goddamn Maleficent lol
The character Ms Marvel in the MCU is good her show had writing issues but the actress was all ways good.
He said they gave us free drinks😂 I under stand now
As much as I've enjoyes this movie, one thing's been confirmed to me...
@@HorrorbleCWaltaaah, Oppenheimer, an actual good movie.
Saw the film. I was apathetic throughout the whole film. The absolute state of the MCU now is abysmal.
I love the sponsorship segways, nothing beats the pitches that they used to do for "Dad Grass" though! 😂 "*Something negative, something negative, something negative* BUT-WITH-DAAAAD-GRAAAAASS!" 😂
Korey, that segway to the sponsor has to be the best one yet. Idk how you can top this.
Martin would've loved it.
The most anticipated review of the year at this point for me. Waited for this like an University exam grade for a class I needed to pass with a C+ min
So you ended up passing?
@@TitanSubZero15 🤣 I did, the movie I m not so sure....
Loki final episode still gives me hope
I really wanted to see this movie, but my finances can’t justify it right now. For me, personally, it’s not the characters or premise- it’s how hard it is to live in America right now
The part where they only understand if you sing instead of talking... That sounds like they took the idea from Spongebob when he went to rock bottom and they didn't understand him unless you blew raspberries instead of talking normal 😅
I had my fill of superhero movies in 2008, haven't seen one since. Jesus, I never actually wrote that out before, that's 15 YEARS lol
So many channels, you don't even need to listen. YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THEY THINK. Some of them are at the point where they JUST WANT EVERYTHING TO FAIL CAUSE IT'S POPULAR TO COMPLAIN LATELY. I've listened to ONE "Unbiased" review so far. I GOT NO SKIN IN THIS. I'M OVER MARVEL. But I'd like to still hear OBJECTIVE OPINIONS.
I agree with you guys. Kamala is the best character. Had me laughing with her being a super fan girl. 😁
Kamala and her family are probably some of the best characters in the MCU right now, because they actually feel like a REAL HUMAN TOUCHPOINT for the audience.
I'm glad y'all are doing this movie review.
It's just simple fact shows like the boys and invincible even movie like Logan made the superhero genre more mature marvel shows and movies are basically live action kids cartoons now
Not really for the Marvel
Korey was twisting and turning to try not to say this movie stinks. How is the cat and Ms. Marvels mom the two best parts of the movie? That’s a clear sign it’s trash.
I liked Monica the most of all the characters. Kamala was OK but she was a little annoying but not as much I expecting her to be.
I know it's not the popular consensus but I enjoyed the Marvel's.
I watched it last night! I had fun, villian was weak, power swapping was fun, love ms Marvels energy! Wasn’t great but I just enjoy movies and fiction
13:00 lmfaooo I wish I could be as funny as Korey
The movies are made for fans, but when they are letting the fans down there isn't anyone left to pick up the slack. This movie had all the same problems Thor Love and Thunder had but without Chris Hemsworth to carry it
Korey is the master of ad breaks. This might be the best one yet
I would give this a 6.5 out of 10. Not perfect but enjoyable.
They don’t realize the guardian of galaxy movies felt completely separate from the Avengers and that’s why they worked.
It's not saying much but Dar-Benn was the most interesting Kree we've seen so far.
I really would have loved to see more backstory on Dar-Benn... But marvel has a habit of giving their villains good bones, with no meat. And that is really the only thing I find frustrating about their movies
Just saw it, it was damn good. The two endings were 🤯🤯🤯
This channel is cool but let’s be honest. Their not keeping it 100. To say that marvel hasn’t gone woke is a tad bit dishonest.
Spaceballs 2 wannabe😂 Mega Maid sucking air out of planet Druidia, as the chant “Suck, Suck, Suck”🤣😂😅
Ms Marvel is highlights for me hope there is more of her
This should have been Kamala's movie.
The villain looked like the illegitimate child of Richard Kiel aka "Jaws" from the James Bond movies
