I watched Echo and all I could say at the end was "meh". I didn't hate it, but its definitely nothing special. They slapped a TV-MA rating on it, released a trailer making you think its going to be more that what it really is, and then Marvel decided not to commit to going all in with the mature rating and it shows throughout almost all of the series with a few random exceptions. When you put an amazing character like Wilson Fisk in the show, and the highlight of the series for him is beating up an ice cream man, then you know your series has issues. The end fight was also really underwhelming and kind of stupid. The only thing truly good about the series is how Marvel made everyone think its something its not from the pre-release trailers. The weird part is you will get a random situation here and there where the show deserves the mature rating and resembles the Netflix shows, like the ice cream man beating, but then it spends the rest of the time mostly following the usual failing Marvel formula for just about everything these days.

Joe's a bit delusional and blind to the WOKE. This story is literally about a girlboss who channels the power of ancestral girlbosses to gain skills and knowledge she doesn't have. At least he gave it a fair score of a 3/10. This show is terrible and literally only exists to satisfy WOKE checkbosses - female lead check, person of color check, handicapped check, girlboss who is invincible due to plot armor and doesn't even have a background to justify her skills or powers check.
The character Ellie from the movie "Contact" was an arrogant, passionate, know it all atheist, who showed up all the men around her with her brilliance. She also rejected Mathew Macoungnhey as a love interest (for most the movie). Yet, everyone loves that movie and loves that character. Criticisms about woke Hollywood and not criticizing women characters who are poorly written does not help or "empower"; sometimes I think Joe is being deliberately obtuse to cater to PC.
I've been saying this since that trailer: it never looked good. The first trailer, and a large portion of the marketing, only focusing on the action and barely any hints of the story was the give away that it was gunna be eh-to-bad.
That's because Disney/Marvel never considered Shang Chi as a serious hero. To them, his movie was just an "experiment." They did it to fulfill a diversity quota and a thinly veiled attempt to grab mainland-Chinese ticket sales while pretending that they were trying to appeal to Chinese-Americans (which was a total disappointment). They had zero plans for Shang Chi in the Phases 4-6 announcement for a reason, because they simply don't care about him.
Wait wait wait. This new character that we know barely anything about got to not only shoot Kingpin in the face, but is also offered his criminal empire, and the iconic hammer that he used on his dad in her first season? That's so lame. Why give her so much stuff?
It's obvious that creatively speaking the executive management at Disney is devoid of any creative thought. At this point no one in those top management positions should only be managing the money to generate profit and not tell the true ip fans what to do.
Im wondering if them: - trying their best to cancel it - releasing it all at once - releasing it in the middle of the night - lift review embargos the moment the show came out were signs that this wasn't going to work...

its what happens when producers hand a b-tier IP to a streaming service, only for it to do amazing! it then gets the attention of the executive suits who cant stop tampering with it and ruins the great thing they had
Been saying for years we need a R Rated corner of the MCU, Do the 90s style dark stories Marvel Knights, Punisher, Blade, Moon Knight. It would breathe new life into the series. Like Harry Potter did the stories needed to mature with the audience.
I think the most important thing for the Netflix series wasn’t the mature rating. That’s great and all. But at the end of the day it’s all about the writing.
It's not that having a "strong woman" or "female empowerment" necessarily means it will be bad. Invincible has Atom Eve and several other badass women and everyone seems to like it. But how many bad movies/games/tv shows have there been recently where the marketing campaign focused on having a woman and/or minority which was praised by mainstream critics for its "inclusion" while having terrible storytelling/characters/writing/direction/acting? At some point you can hardly blame people for spotting a pattern, even if it isn't *necessarily* the "inclusion" that is making it bad.
I think the only time "inclusion" Made a bad film seem good imo(critic wise and financially) was Captain marvel and I think most of that good will came from it being at the end of the infinity saga. "Inclusion" is nice when done with effort so critics comment on it but it can't single handedly redeem a show critically and I've yet to see a good amount of examples for that. Bad movies do bad, universally, regardless of inclusion ie The Marvels
It's an issue because they care more about it than the product, so when you see people praising it's "Diversity and inclusion" , but not the story or acting, take it as a warning.
In a good comic run, Echo had a base Super Power like Task Master - she could copy the fight/combat style of her opponent. Hence being able to go toe to toe with Daredevil as an example. She also had various "other" OP genuine Powers depending on the run/writers. But no, Disney writers have no clue at all. Pretty sure they never even read a comic book with the character in it.
Vincent acted his ass off with what he was given. It’s so sad that NOTHING at Marvel Studios is safe and worth watching anymore. We were on the highest high for over 10 years! What the hell happened?!
I just didn't like that she loses a fight to Hawkeye but when she fights Daredevil she holds her own and arguably wins. Keep in mind that when she fought DD, she is supposed to be a teenager whereas vs Hawkeye she is leader of Tracksuit Mafia.
Street-level vigilante who isn’t Spider-Man or Avenger who was a heavily trained assassin. Which do you think is going to be the tougher fight? Just remember that Netflix Daredevil has also gotten his ass handed to him several times.
@@Phanthief95who wins? A guy who has enhanced super senses, trained by ninjas and a boxer , or some guy that’s primary way of fighting is usually with a bow?
18:35 We should call it what it is presented as: female force. Phoenix Force from the comics is a cosmic entity and not something Echo had innately, but was selected as a potential vessel for. Though it would be ridiculous if the show writers think having female ancestor swirly palms is the same thing as uncontrollably eating up suns.
After Daredevil's "walk of shame" in She-Hulk and then him losing a fight in EP.1 of Echo, it's clear Disney is intent on destroying any good will Netflix built with their excellent show.
What's exactly wrong with his "walk of shame"? How does it "destroy" his character? Daredevil isn't always a serious character. He can have some lighthearted stuff every now and than.
The netflix mcu non canon shows are under disney as well. Netflix did not make the marvel shows. Netflix is only the Distributor. I'll be honest, I would have LOVED for "The Defenders Saga" to have been better acknowledged and made canon in the MCU... if this was ten years ago. I was always annoyed that they went back and forth on if it was canon or not and now that they're finally acknowledgeding it, it feels like they only reason they're doing it is because everything else is failing and we as an audience responded very well to Daredevil coming back. I haven't watched this yet but I only plan on checking out the Daredevil sections (because I too respond well to Daredevil lol).

Maybe I'm misremembering, but wasn't Matt able to tell how many fingers Foggy was holding up? Because from what I remember, even the Daredevil show was inconsistent about his abilities. He could tell how many fingers Foggy held up, but couldn't hear the no-heartbeat ninjas until he listened for their breath. I wanted Echo to fail before it came out. I want Disney to fail as a whole. They keep pushing a quality of product that repeatedly fails and keep making the same mistakes. So please fail and go away. Open the market up for someone else.
So to clarify what joe was sayig about echo in the comics and the Phoenix force. Essentially the Phoenix force was looking for the most worth host and pitted all mutants andd heroes or the more powerful one against each other in a death battle free for all....kinda. They could kill each other but didint really die. Long story short is echo was the last one standing due to her powers of being able to mimic and adapt in a split second. all heroes and villlains were given a fraction of the Phoenix Force so it could see how its host would use said powers. It is a more recent comic Also almost anyone can be a host for the Phoenix. Theres a story were 5 or 6 xmen at the same time get the powers of the Phoenix. Cyclops and Colossus were two of them In that story i mentioned about echo (COMIC SPOILERS) Thor finds out his real maternal mother is the orignal Pheonix force who was part of the B.C. Avengers that also consisted of Odin, OG Ghost Rider who rides a flamming mammoth, first black panther, agamoto himself (first sorcerer supreme), and the first or i think second iron fist. Phoenix sees how Odin is just (at the time at least) just a mad blood thirsty conquer who wanted to use her and also gain her powers. If i remember right she almost kills him but spares him cause she loved him and knew she was their childs mother. So she left earth and the B.C Avengers. Odin changed and became more calm but in that story when the Phoenix held that competition he was scared out his mind(didnt show it tho) cause he thought she still would finish the job this time and saw how much more powerful the Phoenix had become. Jean also has a heart to heart with phenoix and when echo gets the powers she enters her mind to tell her she isnt prepared for the consequences, but that if she ever needs to talk or cant make sense of it all she can go to Jean and Jean would protect her. Thats were thhe story ends. Dont think the second issue is out yet. Echo in the comics isnt incredibly popular but she is a pretty cool character In the comics tho
Glad I wasnt the only one who didnt like this series. I was one the people who knew and was interested in the series. After watching it I couldnt put my finger on how I felt about the show but I knew deep down that it didnt live up tp my personal expectations. I hated the tone of the series and hated how they retconned who Echo was. After watching this I seriously think they are gonna butcher Daredevil. Also did anyone feel Blue Beetle vibes with how the family was depicted?
Honestly, I couldn’t really feel anything but boredom. I can just someone in the writers’ room saying, “Hey, let’s give this character from a spinoff series her own spinoff series, that way we can get a character from her spinoff series and give them a spinoff series.”
The fact that literally, **literally** all the reviews as soon as the embargo was lifted were: "God, the representation is so good" Was... very telling. Nothing about the writing, nothing about the plot and pacing, nothing about the story. Literally the biggest thing it had going for it was the fact that an indigenous person was on the screen.
I think Joe is waaaay too forgiving with Disney and Marvel, honestly. The show was objectively bad, pacing was way off, dialogues were inconsequential and weren't related to each other and action was manufactured in an awful way. Lead actress is no actress, and a couple of sunrays will not make the shadows disappear. Let Alex speak more, his critical mind takes the shows at face value and speaks facts.
I gave it a shot because of Kingpin looking good in trailer, but he is a cry baby here, but even if the show is not good it ended a lot better than she hulk.
Its funny bc even though they gave echo rhe phoenix force in rhe comics, most people STILL dont care about her. I will nevr understand marvels fixation to give these sidecharacters that no one cares about their own shows over other characters that could benefit from one
Disney Marvel's quality control is utterly abysmal. So many of their projects seem to be made by amateurs (evidenced by poor writing, poor direction and laughable fight choreography) who have managed to con their way into jobs which need seasoned professionals. Despite the OBVIOUS marketing spin that this was meant to be Daredevil 3.5, this does not have the creative team, and falls far short of that gold standard. By the way - as a show which sold itself on 'street level realism and grittiness', what the hell is all this cosmic Eternals-style B.S. doing in it? Oh wait, it's Disney Marvel so we need lasers shooting out of every orifice.
@23:20 It may be poor wire work. It appears his mass is pulled up from his waist which is where the wires may have been attached. It could be he was supposed to do a push up, with the wires carrying him, but he missed the mark so the wires pulled before his upper torso was in the correct position. This can also be blamed on the cinematographer, since, people do miss marks, that is why they do more than 1 take. So it is either, 1. they didn't notice, or 2. this was the best of the number they had. Either way. I definitely see what AJ is talking about here.
We didn't need a show for Echo, we needed Kingpin to get his own series or just put more focus on the Daredevil show. No one is going to watch this for Echo, just for Kingpin and Daredevil.
So wait, you make fun of people rolling their eyes at overly powerful women for the sake of overly powerful women, but then you agree with them every time. It's not about it just being about women, it's about being hamfisted and not making sense
*"Hey here's a female character whos abilties make her a cool tactical powerhouse, it's similar to taskmaste-"* *"She takes karate classes!"* *"Oh. Uhm. Sure okay."*
I'm not irritated by female leads or diversity, we need more of these. The problem the MCU has is the writers being hired are terrible and they make the plots revolve around the diversity and the fact that the lead is a female. The writers checkmark off some boxes and forget to write a compelling plot or interesting characters. Imagine if Loki Season 2 was about Loki having powers because he is empowered by dead male relatives... Why couldn't Echo just be a badass who overcame a turbulent past growing up with Kingpin and then be set on a path of destruction and revenge trying to get to him. Imagine The Raid but set during a mayoral election season with Echo fighting her way to the top of Fisk Tower to face off against Kingpin. She loses and Kingpin is elected Mayor. Just because a character is female, it shouldn't mean that is her only character trait.
Even worse: For some reason most female characters have some messed up values and sense of righteousness. Echo kills a bird, when she is young. What girl does that? (not to mention her non-reaction when her mother dies: an alarm-sign that something is really wrong) Later violence is a language? (that was the most relatable part since she doesn`t know better at this time ... but still) and at the end forgiving the murderer of her farther with the power of love and letting the crimeboss go. Who wrote this and thought that is morally o.k.?
So here is the new deal: Instead of watching a TV show, I watch the review of it and feed on the agony of the reviewers. Question is, is that makes me a sort of vampire?
Ok, small detail, but when I hear that "Daredevil retreats", that's out of character as it can get. He can get beat up, he does get beat up a lot after all, but one defining trait almost from the beginning was, he doesn't give up. There's one very early comic that comes to mind where he's basically unconcious and still holds the Submariner at his ankle and Namor mentions something along the line of he's the weakest of those heroes but the most determined. That sounds like a detail but it's one of these details that made Matt my favorite comic book hero, the quote on quote "man without fear". I hope they don't f*ck up Born Again, it's one of the best superhero comics period, not only Daredevil related, so this getting made in the current state of Disney is kind of wrong. If the team behind the Netflix series would do that, I would have been happy. Also I think next to her powers, they changed the tribe she's from, I don't know but it feels contrary to what they're talking about representation if she doesn't even represent the right tribe.
Man remember when Daredevil was found in a dumpster, beaten to crap, got dusted off and basically moved back into action just so he could save one child....
@@TheFatalcrest Yes, I do. Great scene, great example. And that's one of the reason fans of the character and the comic book love this series, they overall nailed the character of Matt Murdock (and friends) as well as the world he lives in so well. Among Marvel characters, he's the one who doesn't give up. Of course they all don't, in a way, they're heroes after all, but in him it's pronounced. Disney now says netflix marvel shows are canon within the MCU 😅
It annoyed me the most is that the writers are making him a MAYOR?? The same guy who the public KNOW killed FBI agents, took over the FBI and had his reputation ruined TWICE?!

That's because Disney/Marvel never considered Shang Chi as a serious hero. To them, his movie was just an "experiment." It's not that having a "strong woman" or "female empowerment" necessarily means it will be bad.
Its just sooooo trendy, gotta hop on that bandwagon baby!
It's an issue because they care more about it than the product, so when you see people praising it's "Diversity and inclusion" , but not the story or acting, take it as a warning.

It is a more recent comic
Also almost anyone can be a host for the Phoenix. Theres a story were 5 or 6 xmen at the same time get the powers of the Phoenix. Cyclops and Colossus were two of them
In that story i mentioned about echo (COMIC SPOILERS) Thor finds out his real maternal mother is the orignal Pheonix force who was part of the B.C.
Echo in the comics isnt incredibly popular but she is a pretty cool character
In the comics tho

I think Joe is waaaay too forgiving with Disney and Marvel, honestly. The show was objectively bad, pacing was way off, dialogues were inconsequential and weren't related to each other and action was manufactured in an awful way. Literally someone from Marvel called it the “M-She” then correct themselves and said “CU” another Freudian slip.

“It’s really cool to know that she’s really cool elsewhere” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why did they have to do daredevil like that 😢
@23:20 It may be poor wire work.

*"Oh.
If you force it.. then it is not diversity, it's bigotry because you have to discriminate to force "x" attributes ect~
The fact that they did Daredevil so dirty upsets me. Daredevil deserved better.

They show that in the series and I think they also say it, we Murdocks take beatings but always stand up again, or something along those lines.

@@amarawinchester963why do people hate on Season 1? I thought it was great… Loki to me is basically Marvel doing Doctor Who better than Doctor Who
@@connorbassett6624Because they destroyed his character and it was all over the place. They build up Kang, just to do him dirty and of course female Loki gets the W. Peak MsheU stuff.
I prefer longer video, so thank you. But that Alex "I'm tired boss".... hit the feels hard.
